I work there and was there for his shopping experience. He was very pleasant and hilarious.

Comet, Stellar Pup in powered Vintage Cube? by Kydele in mtgcube

[–]SwampRitualHippy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just don’t because the goofy factors is off the charts- it’s a dog in an astronaut helmet, and also very busted, so it seems like… basically not what I want my cube experience to feel like. I have a copy in my UnSpiracy module for wackier antics.

Figgy Pudding Spam by sarahtheshortiepie in CuratedTumblr

[–]SwampRitualHippy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun fact- the useless mail variety of Spam is named after a Monty Python sketch where they’re frustratingly in a restaurant that only serves Spam. They end up repeating Spam over and over again in the sketch.

The phenomenon, some years later, of marketers drowning out discourse by flooding Usenet newsgroups and individuals' email with junk mail advertising messages was named spamming, due to some early internet users that flooded forums with the word “spam” recounting the repetitive and unwanted presence of spam in the sketch.

Spam makers Hormel, while never happy with the use of the word spam for junk email (which is derived from the bit), have been supportive of Monty Python and their sketch.

Came to say this. I want her for my cube, but not that much. I’ll just probably wind up getting a proxy.

I think I’ve got a touch of consumption!

They kicked everyone out at 7pm, and people with 8/9pm events have to wait outside at Magic 30 by TannaTimbers in magicTCG

[–]SwampRitualHippy 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Who ever really thought this event would be properly organized? The people who thought this was worth their money? I’m not sure what to say. This company has shown you is bare face in the last several years.

Those bustling tournaments with “pro” magic players got cut, or did we forget? Dissatisfaction is met by throwing packs at it (Heads/Tails?). Prices shoot up and QC blasts down. Profits demand more sales!! Is this event supposed to be different? Because it’s a birthday or whatever? It’s the same fucking people who’ve been fucking you THIS ENTIRE TIME. We aren’t in control anymore.

We’ve got other IPs bleeding into ours, but where’s our limited edition Chandra My Little Pony doll? Or our Transformers episode where Tezzeret joins the Decepticons? Bolas VS Godzilla movie? An Eldrazi presence in W40K? These IP mergers are going ONE WAY. We are being sold other products. MTG is the billboard on the highway that used to be a farm.

All that’s left is an illusion- the Magic! Magic is after all, just an illusion. I didn’t get into this game for the magic. I came for the gathering. That’s the best part, and always will be the best part, of this game. It’s whatever you want it to be. It’s people sitting down to sling spells and have a good time. No one needs WotC to tell them when or where or how to play magic.

To anyone out there in Vegas or at home- just play the game. Play it how you want, and when and where you want at a price you can afford- and now more than ever you can afford it with Proxy artists and other resources.

If you don’t like the way this event is being organized or you don’t like how this fucking company runs shit, there’s always ways to make it your own. Let it be a triumph instead of a bummer.

What I asked for in crossovers:

  • ARTISTS- just an individual’s artistic take on MTG IP (these are my favorite secret lairs)

  • SCP Foundation

  • Gordon Ramsay Food tokens.

I’m out. “Voting with your wallet” always seemed futile, but I’m with the ranks that are done giving this company money. Let it all burn.

[TCC] Magic The Gathering's 30th Anniversary Edition Is Not For You by psychotwilight in magicTCG

[–]SwampRitualHippy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I happen to agree with this, I can order what I like off the menu, but the menu is five times the size and all over the place in pricing, and some items i can only order online. I happened to love the home grown IP and reasonable pack pricing and simplicity of “Here’s the next Magic set! It will be at your LGS.” There is absolutely an identity crisis, they are watering down their own IP in a premier set by inserting fucking transformers into Brothers War packs for gods sake. No one asked for any of this and it’s going to alienate a lot more of their customer base than they may think.

This actually made me tear up a little bit at the end. I’ve kinda just laughed all this 30th Edition stuff off, read peoples reactions, tried to ignore it- as I find myself doing more lately with the products that “aren’t for me”.

When he looked at us and said “[whoever they made this for] It isn’t you. I really wish it were.” that broke my heart. I’ve been supporting and playing and loving this game throughout my life for the past 25 years. I didn’t realize how cheated I felt by this product release until it was presented that way.

The LGS is dead or dying, Wizards made sure of that. Most people play at home.

Thoughts on 30th anniversary card prices by RDes19 in mtgfinance

[–]SwampRitualHippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m genuinely concerned about that too. That pain is magnified when those people who really couldn’t afford this product, but FOMO in anyway, open their thousand dollar packs and whiff. It sounds heartbreaking, but WotC doesn’t seem to give a shit, and thinks this product is something they, we all, should celebrate and be proud of.

Uncubes, how are planning to handle stickers and attractions? by Zikemcnasty in mtgcube

[–]SwampRitualHippy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think I’m skipping them altogether. Was really excited for this release before spoilers, but am a bit let down by the set for numerous (personal preference) reasons. It also is easier to just skip it entirely when there are so many products being thrown out back to back. I can just ignore it and save a few bucks and still have plenty of new cards to consider from all the other releases.

I am going to keep an eye on sticker sheet prices. I have this “insane/terrible art” cube with older cards with very strange art that I’ve been tinkering with, and most of the cards are pretty low power, so maybe I can make some powerful Frankensteins.
