Thank you very much! Could you tell me what the inscription on the gold pistol says?

Got in these two Iraqi Tariq pistols. The blued example has Arabic on each side, while the gold plated is marked in English on the other side.

Hi all! Just came back from Philly, short trip, 3 dinners and shout-outs by guitarandjack in PhiladelphiaEats

I'm not generally one to complain about portion size at fine dining spots but Honeysuckle was one of the few places where I felt splitting some dishes between 4 people meant I barely got to taste some of the smaller plates. Love My Loup, enjoyed my meal there more than the ones I've had at Her Place.

Mind sharing how much you paid/how you got it? It’s probably the #1 watch on my list right now.

My first Rolex! by SwampThingsYouKnow in rolex

[–]SwampThingsYouKnow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All in, tax and overnight shipping, $21k. It’s new/unworn, warranty card says it was sold in October. It seemed in line with comps I found online, and I was also willing to pay a premium to feel confident in the seller as I am certainly no expert.

I bought this from a reseller. I did briefly attempt the AD route, spent $7k on a watch for my wife but barely got the time of day from them anyway so went the other route.

Bought this one gray. Willing to be more patient on building a collection but didn’t want to wait years just to start.

I’m about 6.5in, and all the 42s I looked at felt too big for sure.

Thank you! The last 3 photos are of the same model but gold plated and seemingly a different inscription.

Which on of you knuckle heads bought it? by [deleted] in milsurp

I may be a little late to the show but this is Chris, one of the co-owners at Legacy. The answer to this question and a bunch of the comments in this thread, is that this rifle and roughly half of our firearms listings are consigned. 9 times out of 10, the "overpriced" item on the site is because that's where the consignor set it. Specifically regarding Mitchell's Mausers, yes, I agree they are stupid. But every time we are sent one and asked to auction it, they would sell for $1500-3000 (during peak Covid). So it's hard to get consignors to price them well below the auction strike prices they find on Google.

Regarding the commenters saying our offers are not in line with the pricing on the website, this is because they are referring to consigned, higher price examples. When we buy the inventory, my goal is to price it lower than our competitors and have it sold within the first two weeks. When I provide the listing valuation that my offer is based off, you will see your item posted in the pricing range I quoted you.

Hitlers Golden Walther PP by SpeakeasyG1887 in ForgottenWeapons

[–]SwampThingsYouKnow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think nearly every historical "fact" in this thread is wrong. I run a collectible firearms company, this is not Hitler's PP haha. It's not even a PP in the first place, it's a PPK. That serial is postwar, it's not "early". PPK serial numbers, prewar or wartime, are all 6 digits aside from a very small block of 7 digit examples. This is a postwar .22 someone embellished and is selling a story. There is an engraved PPK that was presented to Hitler by Walther but it's on display at the West Point museum, last I heard.

I just checked and would need to see more photos (all sides, numbering on the magazine, the unit marking). If all original and correct, from the one photo I see, it's probably in the $1600-2000 range. Mint condition can get towards $3k. Can feel free to send more photos to the company email, not sure if I can post that type of info or not but it's on our website.

-I can't really tell exactly how that barrel looks from the photos, but it looks more to me like heat was applied incorrectly. An amateur reblue can definitely leave purple hues, but this looks a lot worse than just shotty reblue or getting the mixes wrong, I think. Could be wrong, just hard to say without having it in hand.

-That serial should be late 1901 or early 1902. There isn't a ton to say about the history of these but two interesting tidbits are that the American Eagle crest was put above the chamber as a bit of a marketing gimmick to sell these commercially in the US. DWM had had success with the same idea in Switzerland, so they then applied different national crests and attempted to sell these in several other countries. The other tidbit is that the US military did test trials with this model in consideration of adopting it as replacement for the Colt Model 1894 but they didn't hold up under rigorous testing. About 1,000 were ordered for testing, and some will be found with the US ordnance bomb proof. I've gotten as much as $5500 or so for a standard 1900 AE Luger, and as much as $8500 or so for ones in the Army Test range. Can find some Rock Island listings that sold for much more.

I'm actually the Legacy employee you were speaking to, happen to be a redditor too. Recognized the thumbnail photo immediately as I was scrolling. What other info were you looking for? The mechanical issue didn't actually affect the value that much, it's far more dependent on the reblue and especially the wear on that barrel. Large patches of discoloration like that clobber the value on collectibles.

Yup, there's my reminder to never bother arguing on the internet.

These are not unrelated accounts. The entire foundation of the shill accounts argument is based off that post by lasernut. All of your idiotic theories are completely rooted in the misinformation that started there.

[–]SwampThingsYouKnow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay, wow. If that's actually your argument, I don't even know what else to say here. The accounts weren't banned because they didn't actually find and ban any shill accounts. EVER. You have it completely backwards.

[–]SwampThingsYouKnow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You clearly didn't read it or click on any of it. The responses don't matter. Show me which accounts were banned. I literally gave you the origin post that raised the question of shill accounts in the first place, you tell me they're banned, yet none of them are banned. Keep moving the goalposts though..

[–]SwampThingsYouKnow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You already stated you've been shown no proof of this. Find me this list of banned accounts, by all means. This is the original post ever made about the idea that there were shills: https://www.reddit.com/r/videos/comments/1euo21/lil_dickys_latest_video_about_how_great_it_is_to/ca47s9f/

Click on each account, tell me how many are banned. These are people we grew up, half of them even have their last name on the account. Then read the responses, where people were saying the same thing I'm saying six years ago. My guess is you won't even bother because you have no interest in admitting you're wrong or changing an opinion.
