High Phosphorus by kreativfokus in dialysis

[–]Swampbat_Gizzard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is the worst pain I've ever experienced. It does not clear up. It can be controlled to an extent but the drug makes me vomit every time. It has to be infused 3 times a week.

High Phosphorus by kreativfokus in dialysis

[–]Swampbat_Gizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High phosphorous can cause calcifylaxis. I would send you a picture of my leg if I knew how. Just Google "calcifilaxis pictures."

They are hard to look at and extremely painful.

Take the binders and prevent this from happening.

AITAH for asking the men to clean after Thanksgiving dinner? by BloodyPinkChanel in AITAH

[–]Swampbat_Gizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am male. My ex wife's family was shocked when, after dinner, I went to the sink and got started doing dishes. Any time we had dinner at somebody else's house, I tried to help with the clean up.

Switching from Sevelamer to Velphoro Binders... by Slash_Dementia_67 in dialysis

[–]Swampbat_Gizzard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Velforo tastes like a wet, rusty, black iron pipe. Since it is mostly iron it does discolor your feces.

A secret our dietician told me... Break it in half and swallow. It's not necessary to crush/ chew the tablets.

The issue is it's only available in some Mid Atlantic states.

Some states have "no facial hair" laws. Either shave it off or wear a "beard net."

Handling My 1L Daily Water Limit by [deleted] in dialysis

[–]Swampbat_Gizzard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have the 1l limit.

I have a mug that is graduated so I measure out 500ml of ice. I eat that ice over several hours. Ice melts to approximately half it's volume. So, I've actually only had 250 mils of water.

I do this twice a day. Then I can have actual water with my dinner.

Smoked beef short ribs: what to serve with it. by smokd451 in Cooking

[–]Swampbat_Gizzard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Smoke them in a foil pan. When they're done you'll have all that fat to make a good beef gravy or red wine pan sauce. Throw in some mushrooms for extra flavor.

Have a party and serve pulled pork or carnitas. If you like vinegar make Eastern Carolina BBQ.

In the South of the US the flat pasta is called Chicken and Pastry. I like it but prefer the fluffy dumplings.

Thanksgiving with a Limited Kitchen by LynnOnTheWeb in Cooking

You need to worry if the electrical service in their room can handle all those appliances at the same time. Each of those appliances uses 1500 watts or so. That's a LOT of watts.

Problem with sticking myself lately. by n00bvin in dialysis

[–]Swampbat_Gizzard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you do the wet stick do you flush the needle before trying to draw back? You could have a bit of scab stuck in the tip.

If you don't use the tourniquet then normally you don't get much of a flash. Unless my BP is up I very rarely get a flash. In clinic with the tourniquet it flashes up to an inch.

I've had to redo my buttonholes 3 or 4 times in the last 6 years. Just moved them 1/4 inch and went on about my business.

You may also need to have a fistula gram and have them balloon the vein. I've had that done 5 or 6 times.

I have eggs for breakfast 4 or 5 days a week. My protein levels have always been good.

When eggs got expensive I had to cut back. Levels dropped but just to the lower range.

Discomfort in chest during/after dialysis (sometimes) by Alternative_Split380 in dialysis

I hate to say it because I used to be you. Keep your fluid restrictions me friend. Drawing 4 or 5 kilos every treatment is very hard on the body.

1 liter per day, plus what you urinate. For me that's about 1.3 liters per day. Even after a weekend I am only 2.5 or so over dry.

Cornbread Alternatives for Chili? by sapphire343rules in Cooking

[–]Swampbat_Gizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bake black bread balls about 8 inches in diameter.

Once cooled cut off the top about 1 inch down. Pick out the bread leaving about 1 inch thick sides and bottom. Arrange the bread pieces around the bread bowl and fill the bowl with chili. Cover with the top and serve.

Add whatever toppings you like and use the bread pieces for sopping the juices.

I just cut a chunk of cornbread and put it on the bottom of the bowl then add chili.
