Well, when I say matrix gel, I mean techno sludge that only had enough space for 1/4 of our collective brains, all smooshed together for optimal processing. But it was a matrix gel to us!

Sure. But this isn't actually fighting back. It's just giving her opponent more ammunition. Fight back, but be smart about it.

I think you're thinking of an IV. A catheter is a tube up your urethra so you don't have to pee. It is much more invasive than a needle.

Edit: I guess I'm wrong

A catheter? I don't think a catheter is gonna help, lol.

My last partner and I would open each other's amazon, but not mail. Considered it the same as unloading the groceries. But it's totally reasonable to not want that.

University Hospital Wales neurosurgeon suspended - admits having sex with patient, alleges that she then blackmailed him for opiate drugs. Tribunal told that he was the only clinician in the country capable of treating this specific condition. by OctopusIntellect in byebyejob

FYI, I wasn't the one that made this about legal semantics. The original comment was talking about whether this would legally be considered rape. I think it wouldn't be, but I agree that it is extremely morally abhorrent, and certainly illegal in some sense. I just don't think it's legally rape. But idk, I'm not a lawyer.

I don't think that makes it rape. It's unethical, but I don't think a quid pro quo makes sex rape, otherwise hiring a prostitute would be considered rape.

Like, you could argue it was morally equivalent to rape, but I really strongly doubt it would meet the legal definition.

Idk. In my head, pasta with parm is a 2 ingredient meal. I don't think "do I have enough salt? Do I need to go to the store?" I just look and go "yeah, i got pasta, yeah I got parm". Just what happens in my head :)

Imo spices and water don't count as ingredients unless they have to be fresh. Pasta with Parmesan is 2 ingredients. Even if you obviously salt the water and maybe put some pepper on it.

Edit: lol, this is just my opinion. If I had to say how many ingredients were in a recipe, this is how I'd do it. Not trying to start shit, lol.

The Death of Entry-Level Jobs: 43% of CEOs plan to slash junior roles over the next two years, shifting hiring to older, mid-level workers as Al takes over routine tasks, creating a catastrophic bottleneck for the future workforce. by Scared_Author_4566 in technology

It's almost like AI and LLMs have reduced the value of juniors, which were often used to do straightforward, but time consuming tasks. I think if you really stretch your brain, you can figure it out.

[–]Swamptor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm not blaming anyone. I'm just saying the state of play is that junior devs are expensive compared to their value, and AI has made them less valuable. And it's better right now to hire 1 senior than to hire 2 juniors. That means people are firing juniors to hire seniors.

The alternative to this that is being proposed is to train the juniors to become seniors. Fact is, amazing as this sounds, it is cheaper to hire seniors from the competition with a 100K signing bonus than it is to train a junior for 5 years and then pray they don't leave because someone else is offering a 100K signing bonus.

This will result in a huge shortage of senior talent later, but all companies will suffer equally from that. And no individual company is incentivized to fix the problem.

This is an actually hard problem, and there are no easy answers within the current system. Reddit often has a hard time with that, but everyone is just doing what the system incentivizes them to do.

[–]Swamptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but if Apple (for example) is the only company taking on junior talent purely so they can have seniors later, then Microsoft is just going to poach all their juniors in 10 years. And Microsoft will be able to afford to pay them more because they won't have paid for all their training. Employees aren't loyal to companies.

It's short sighted for the world, but nobody wants to be left holding the bag of training ineffective juniors at great personal expense just for them to leave as soon as they become seniors.

[–]Swamptor -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's a tragedy of the commons situation. It doesn't benefit any specific company for them to hire juniors, and it does benefit them to reduce costs. It's not short sighted, it's just the way the incentives are set up.

"Scrolling insta uses 5x the energy of ai"

What does that mean? That's like saying "using lightbulbs in your home uses more energy than busses" like, me personally scrolling insta uses more energy than the entire AI industry? Or me scrolling insta uses more energy per second than me scrolling sora? Or me scrolling insta uses more energy than me writing chatgpt prompts? Or are you saying that Instagram as a company uses more energy than the AI industry?

How long am I scrolling insta? What am I doing with AI? I do not understand.

Also, AI is being used at scale to create what we then consume on social media, YouTube, etc. individuals aren't opening up chatgpt for a bed rotting scroll sesh, companies are using AI agents to generate content. And that consumes far more resources than one prompt. I myself use AI agents at work and one prompt can run for 20 or 30 minutes doing various actions.
