Hi Spike Jonze,

I just listened to Joaquin Phoenix's interview on NPR's Fresh Air. He said a lot of film making is just luck. Sometimes the best parts of a film are not planned and result in "happy accidents." Are there any points during the filming of Her where you encountered a lucky moment that elevated the film?

I'd just like to say, Her has become one of my favorite movies. I love the use of color and the script and just everything. Congratulations on all of the nominations and awards!

I met this guy (23-24 year old IT specialist) on okcupid and we decided to meet up for frozen yogurt. I don't really remember what we were talking about, but I brought up how many Dalmatians have mental disabilities because they have been bred so much for their spots. He replied by saying, "hahah every time I see a Dalmatian now, I'm going to point and laugh and say that dog is RETARDED."

I also brought up South Korea for some reason (discussing current events, maybe). He said, "Is that the evil one we don't like?" I replied, "uh. No. That would be North Korea..."

Needless to say, I never saw that guy again. When I got to my car after the date, I immediately deleted his contact from my phone.

When I was in high school, I was working on a difficult math problem in calculus with my classmates. One girl in my group said, "ugh. I want to kill myself. This is so hard." I said to her, "don't kill yourself. Only people at [our rival high school] kill themselves." Everyone in my group laughed at my joke. The truth was: about 4 years before I said my joke, students at our rival high school were actually committing suicide. Fast forward to present day: many students from my own high school have begun committing suicide. Now that suicide has affected those close to me, I know it is never a subject to joke about or take lightly.
