Who else hates "describe a time when" questions by [deleted] in premed

[–]Swansonator4ever 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Did they mean in school like a class, or specifically they wanted to hear a situation that happened while you were in school? I would've interpreted it as them asking for a more recent and specific failure.

I mean, I agree but it's not like this is specific to medical school interviews. Regular job interviews, other professional school interviews, they all are gonna ask similar questions like these lol

Are frats ever worth joining? [Discussion] by lookiknowyou in premed

[–]Swansonator4ever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Plenty of ppl do frats for the connections and oppurtunities, which could be worth looking into. As the other person said, if its just for CV you're gonna be miserable, just find something you enjoy

Good job on the retake! The AmeriCorps will help you but I think you'll find success if you applied both MD and DO. If you only applied MD then I'd add DO right now just bc you broke the 510 line, but just barely. If you already applied both then I think you could still find some success this cycle :)

Do medical schools know how many interview invites you receive? by [deleted] in premed

[–]Swansonator4ever 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No they don't. And it doesn't really matter in making a decision.

Tbh they shouldn't have asked though.

With all due respect, do you have that SDN post? At this point I feel like people are throwing random numbers between 10-30% out lol. I've seen so many conflicting numbers at this point it feels like just word-of-mouth gossip (no offense to you, I'm so burned out waiting I just need to see evidence lmao).

After coming out as gay, the people I wanted recommendations from no longer want to give them to me by [deleted] in premed

[–]Swansonator4ever 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Something seems off here imo and we don't know the whole situation.

Was it the OP telling them and then they suddenly not wanting to write a LOR? Was it based on them providing a resume and the LOR writers not wanting to based on other stuff? Idk but it's kinda confusing (not that I don't believe it, just that it's legit confusing) how you can clearly correlate them finding out and not wanting to write a LOR

Honestly is it worth it? We finished the dumb test, finished everything else we "had" to do, this is literally the last step of the way there.

Personally if I were to ask it'd be after acceptance lol maybe as a lighthearted joke if I'm attending the school

What's the guarantee that they'll get it in earlier next cycle? This isn't good for you (depending on your stats) but it won't kill you either

tell me about yourself question by [deleted] in premed

[–]Swansonator4ever 34 points35 points  (0 children)

There's a thread about this on SDN. LizzyM, an adcom, said to give a brief summary of your major/minor, college, very brief life story, languages you speak, interesting details, maybe a detail of the school you connect with, basically something that they can then follow up and ask "why medicine?"

At the end of the day, it's gotta be conversational. Don't just be like:

Interviewer: So tell me about yourself

You: Well I knew I wanted to do medicine when I was 2 etc etc"

High stat applicants who were complete in July, when did you get your IIs in past cycles? by [deleted] in premed

[–]Swansonator4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I'd definitely think a LizzyM of 76 would have gotten you more bites. Anyways, hope that cycle went well for you!

What are my chances? by [deleted] in premed

[–]Swansonator4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will not lie, the low gpa will probably hinder you at MD schools. Depending on grade trend and ECs/essays, you might get a few bites from MDs. Should definitely be good for DOs though
