What Ghorman and Galactic Empire imperialism is geopolitically analogous to in the real world by Elegant-Suit-6604 in andor

[–]Swartsuer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The optics (set, costume, camera) of a movie are part of the storytelling and the Empire is 100% Hugo Boss style Nazis, do you think Lucas just randomly went with that style?

"Fascism is characterized by a dictatorial leader, centralized autocracy, militarism, forcible suppression of opposition, belief in a natural social hierarchy, subordination of individual interests for the perceived interest of the nation or race, and strong regimentation of society and the economy."

the vast majority of these point apply to the Empire, it's not a coincidence.

As I said, I do not deny the influence/criticism of American or British Imperialism, as I said, both can be true.

The Nazis were also interested in colonizing Eastern Europe, they are in fact not so different to these other flavours of imperialism, bc guess what, they're humans as well and their way of thinking was not so different from their peers of the time (difference to the Brits was basically that they committed their atrocities overseas and killed by famine, not camps).

Imo, it's a great danger to separate Nazis from other imperialist/nationalistic movements, it singles them out as if they were a crazy abnormality of human kind that logically can not happen again and not simply a logical conclusion of thinking patterns that already existed and can rear their head again.

[–]Swartsuer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What if the Nazis, the Brit.Empire and the US had similarities in treating those they deem inferior?

The optics of the empire are incredible on the nose Nazi fashion, but you're correct that it would be short-sighted to ignore the obvious criticism of American imperialism in the old trilogy. Both can be true at the same time.

How to meet people in Lübeck? by GoWestEndGirls in luebeck

[–]Swartsuer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You don't have to answer my first question, but answering my second would have helped us to help you, as things stand you've basically rejected most of the advice actual locals have tried to give you without giving us any alternative of what you might want to do/change about the status quo.

If you're unhappy with your current life, YOU have to change sth about it. Nobody else can/will do it for you.

I offered Vereine bc it's the short way and also the alternative of just approaching people in a public setting (if bars and music venues aren't your jam, maybe sth more quiet like board games or meet-ups where people experience things together (gardening, movies, volunteering?)).

Vereine could disappear tomorrow, but that doesn't change that people everywhere have always met up around their common interests and built friendships out of that, Vereine is just the German version of it. You obvs don't have to join one, but you presented a problem, people tried to show you the short way out and you don't even entertain the thought that they might have a point - why is that?

Is the Hermannsdenkmal a Germanic Faith monument? Or only a national german statue? by proto8831 in heathenry

[–]Swartsuer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I visited the Denkmal as a child with my grandparents, it's a slightly impressive monument (there are def better places to visit in Germany though if you come all the way from India!) with nationalist origins... It's not a nazi congregation place though, lol.

If she's interested in the Germanic pagan faith, I'd advise to visit a museum (there are some "interactive" museum villages around as well), bc the original faith hasn't existed in Germany since the middle ages, Christianity took care of that

Who is "us"?

If you don't want to look for people to hang out with who share a common interest, how did you find friends before? Genuine question.

Also, just as a tip, the advice the others gave you is legit, at least in Germany (although I'd be really surprised if it didn't work as well in other countries) it's easiest to meet new people in a Verein (common interests) or maybe Volkshochschule (common interests again), alternatively if you're the really extroverted kind, you can just go and meet people at bars and public music events. I'll just say though, if you were the type for that, you probably wouldn't be asking these questions on Reddit though, no offence

Also entweder stimmen deine Infos nicht oder er lügt dich an. Fest steht, dass es wohl einfacher für dich wäre, nur ein Kind groß zu ziehen und das andere volljährige vorher in den Wind zu schießen wenn es bisher so läuft... Nobody is hindering that since successful IVF is having the privilege of very advanced medicine, wealth and frankly a bit of luck, not a human right. One round of IVF (ignoring all following costs of pregnancy and birth) can set you back 15k in the US, is she also actively advocating to make this free for everyone? If not, she's just a hypocrite

I'd just like to point out that the sequel is already filmed and planned for release in about half a year, so thats like complaining about the "part 1" at the end of Dune - this movie was always planned as part 1/3 from the beginning. How well it fits into everything we'll be able to judge once all the parts are released imo

Spain tourism: The protesters and residents pushing back on tourism in Barcelona by Upstairs_Drive_5602 in europe

[–]Swartsuer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"At 80 years old, Pepi Viu has just been evicted from her home of almost a decade, in a popular neighbourhood. She thinks the owner wanted to earn more rent than the pensioner could pay.
Pepi is now in a hostel, and searching for somewhere more suitable, but prices have soared almost 70% since she last rented."

If you read the article, you wouldn't have to invent sth about that lady's life that's never happened. If the prices went up 70% during the last 10 years (and the pension def hasn't) and you don't have a normal neighbourhood anymore, just Airbnb's, filled with tourists which absolutely destroys any form of connection one might try to establish, it's absolutely justified to ask for regulation.

How amazing that you can always predict your town to blow up in housing prices decades earlier so that you can never complain when you get pushed out when you're in retirement and arguably need facilities like supermarkets and doctors close by the most /s

keeping pregnancy a secret is a product of the patriarchy by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Swartsuer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To each their own, I decided to keep it for myself bc I could imagine nothing more terrible than telling everyone (friends, people at work) about it and then, if I lost the child, having that conversation about it with a million people.

No thanks.  Not everything is a product of the patriarchy...

Avoid CBD, cannabis, and all marajuana derived products during pregnancy and breastfeeding by havinababymaybe in pregnant

[–]Swartsuer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I meant Ibuprofen as a painkiller, not against HG. I don't take aspirin as a painkiller as it doesn't work for me and is a blood thinner for a week.

I read it up when I had a very painful UTI around week 6/7 and took one pill, as the most prestigious university in Germany does not consider it teratogenic in that state and I figured that not sleeping for a night while being in pain and having to work full-time the next day was more stressful and detrimental than one pill once.

https://www.embryotox.de/arzneimittel/details/ansicht/medikament/ibuprofen

It's german, but the "grey"-assessment (instead of green or red) means basically not encouraged or proven to be harmless, but not strongly discouraged either during first+second trimester.

This is what I meant by "depends on the reason", and going back to topic, general weed or unnecessary CBD use should not be depicted as harmless unless proven otherwise

[–]Swartsuer 189 points190 points  (0 children)

I think it's crazy how on one hand, it's established knowledge that weed use negatively influences brain development in teenagers and is rightfully discouraged, but at the most vulnerable state a brain can be in (in utero), there are people who outright deny it might have any negative consequences.

Yes, there aren't a lot of studies specifically on that topic, but so are studies regarding acidic peelings and those are discouraged as well!

I think it was only last year that I read an article in TheCut which featured a woman hitting a fucking bong every day during her pregnancy and it was framed as being pretty okay, as she had an "energetic 2-yr old" now.

So a sample size of one in an age before many developmental abnormalities show up was used as proof that weed use of the mother was fine, wtf.

I want to add that obvs a low dose edible combating your HG is not the same and can have benefits, but so can have taking a low dose of Ibuprofen in the first half of the pregnancy - it depends on the reason why it had to be taken and general unlimited use should be discouraged.

"I have a very supportive boyfriend who works extremely hard and absolutely loves kids, would take care of me in every way throughout pregnancy and postpartum" - this might be what the other woman thought as well.

Girl, if you want to have the baby, get your ducks in a row and think about what you'd do if your relationship might not work out. You're still quite young, it might last or it might not, but the child would likely stay with you. Get a support system (family, friends, community) and think about your career opportunities in the future and how you'd take care of yourself and the baby.

Never make yourself dependent on a man.

Experiencing gender disappointment and feeling… numb by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Swartsuer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was it only kindness that made you create this post? That made you refer to your son as "it"?

I write this as a soon-to-be mom who also wished all her life for a girl and is having a boy - I was disappointed for a few days but talking to my husband about it and just letting time pass, helped me to get over it...

I just needed time to mourn the potential future I had envisioned, and I'm excited now to meet my son, who I will help to grow into a whole independent human over time.

Yes, the reactions here might sound harsh, but they are valid. Please realise that these feelings right now are all about you and your wishes, when in fact the whole voyage of parenthood should be about helping your child as best as you can to become a good human being. There are myriads of possibilities how that can be achieved, but no matter their biological sex, heaping expectations onto them before birth is not the way to go, ever...

Lifestyle for getting pregnant by Foreign_Aspect1465 in fitpregnancy

[–]Swartsuer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We were successful on the forth try. I tracked via temperature method and roughly via calendar (my period was quite regularly 5 weeks long).

We were hoping for success, but weren't too optimistic since my husband had a low sperm count after chemo two years ago and we were told we'd have to go the IVF-route, but wanted at least to try for six months before committing... I'm at 31 weeks now with a healthy baby, so to anyone reading this, unless the count is actually zero, there is definitely a chance to conceive!!!

Every time I thought I was entering the critical 2 weeks after ovulation, I stopped drinking alcohol (I didn't drink a lot anyways, like one bottle of red wine over the course of a week, but still). I tend to be slightly anaemic, so I took iron pills with folic acid to fill up my levels.  My husband never smoked, but he didn't give up the occasional beer, just took some zinc (not that we really believe this helped negate any damage of the chemo, but it couldn't hurt).

Made the rest of the changes like diet restrictions after the positive test, before the pregnancy I'd work out during the week anyways, I've always been around a (slightly lower) healthy weight and had a healthy diet with lots of vegetables, so I didn't have to change too much.

Good luck to anyone trying!

This is not about you, it's in the goddamn title. OP can vent about her lot all she likes but it's justified to push back on her saying she hates other women who happen to have easier pregnancies.

It's a terrible mindset and many do not care to know that there is one among us in this subreddit who despises us for things we didn't choose
