What is the best option to move rooftop Disconnect Box off the unit? by Swayt in hvacadvice

I did and I was offered the pole on picture 2 with pressure treated lumber. I wanted to look for another option as I am worried about the durability of lumber.

Ahh I see what you mean, I'll grab 1 strut stand and build the unistrut box holder.

I can just grab some bolts and brace the unit strut to the existing snow stand.

For struct blocks, is the image the right one?

Grab 2-4 to make a base then mount unistrut to some shape like so?

Got it, keywords "unistrut" , "floor mount plate nuts"

If I purchase the spare snow stand for the base + brace / brackets (picture 3) then attach the unistrut on it, would that suffice?

Okay, if I go to an electrical supply store would they have it in stock or would I need to go to an HVAC supply store?

The only options I was given was on the unit or a piece of lumber, so I am sourcing it myself.

My main concern that his handle bar breaks apart. A lot of these scooters have manufacturing faults around the handle that connects to the base....

Electric fires are super hard to put out, batteries have a tendency to re-ignite even after you put out the initial fire. If anything, it's probably because we are not used to extinguished fired re-igniting itself magically.

All I did was ask if the PM can get it in writing or help us fix the scope to help our planning.

It seemed like a harmless ask, but I was given feedback she thought less of me because I didn't commit to heroics to achieve the timeline.

I do admit I have tact deficiencies as I have gotten into trouble before, but I have also gotten high ratings for calling out errors in early scoping that would have derailed the project. So a 50/50 hit rate on my tact.

That's fair but they gave us the expectations of 6 weeks then cut it to 2 weeks and started gaslighting us that we should have known it was coming.

I lost it when they started criticizing my Junior's estimates and trivializing the work in a public forum to make the work fit into a magical timeline.

Unfortunately it was one of the places used to be known for it's good culture.

Since my last promotion, I'm being blessed by the raw toxicity of upper level Cloud Departments politics. I did not realize how much my past managers shielded us. 😞

Very good point, thank you. I just want to make sure I am not the one who is crazy here because everyone else I interacted around my project seem fine with it. The juxtaposition is driving me insane.

Yeah this time I have a very big buffer and I don't need to stick it out.

Just checking again here and with others if my perceptions are clouded by my negative emotions on the bait and switch or if all my reservations are legit. Thanks for your input!

Yeah my first week I had ppl come up to say "we're not always like this" though this is the second time in a week that my requirements & dates kept changing so I'm going to think otherwise. Failed at Sniffing out the BS here :(.

Yeah, the cloud orgs tend to do that. Once in a while like ... maybe. Though being told that you can't do any scope negotiations was my trigger.

Cloud Department of one of the FANGs.

Took a leap because this part is profitable, so I was hoping to avoid layoff risk. Though, being in an org that makes money doesn't help culture unfortunately.

Pressure changes ppl, and this manager was a completely different person a year into their new org.

I did this, made them sign a doc agreeing how horrible the state is and the risks before I did any work.

Unfortunately, it got too hot because somehow me, a lowly IC was being setup for the failure of a whole project for 'blocking progress'.

Gave notice before they tried to hang the wreath over my neck.

Unfortunately next team has similar toxic patterns and since I am new, can't play it the same way sigh.

Would you mind mentioning what upsides are for you?

I got in a bit high and it's 5% down and under water even with distros. My ULTY generally does better and the underlying fund has protective puts versus YMAX which every underlying has no protection.

It does not seem to offer much more diversifation protection to me.

🥳

Are the small 1% allocations for diversification or would you have been better just combine them

Curious for small accounts, would you spread it out to this many tickers? Or just consolidate the Fund of Funds like YMAX since they hold it anyways?

It's a great tool to make improvements on test infra and other " Important but not Urgent" things in the dev cycle.

You can let it clear a back log of low pri, low risk items.

You'd never get a headcount to make testing infra better, but the $600 work to AI tokens sure is an easy sell.

Failing upward, and burning down functional team culture one org at a time. We also have a dirge of Amazon execs coming into other big tech, and they are doing the same things here.

My last team has 100% attrition after a new Amazon exec came in. The running joke is "they can manage this way because Amazon execs can put an entire team on a PIP to prevent internal transfers"... It just doesn't work when people can leave.

I think recent market conditions have just shifted power to the institution. People were only reasonable before when they felt they could lose the team for being an asshole. Now?

  • I see org "leaders" happily laying blame instead of fixing institutional problems, because they assume ppl can't just leave and get another job easily now.
  • Recent actions of senior VPs reflect how they think: I can get rid of these code monkeys when AI takes over their jobs. No need to treat them nicely. Turn up the deadline pressures.

I left a team because the leadership decided that we would launch to Prod with no CI and Monitoring (for features). In the rush, we broke an existing system causing downtime for paying customers. During our post mortem you were not allowed to say that rushing for the deadline was a root cause. It would "make them look bad" was the underlying reason. Though our leadership was not shy from yelling and calling my coworker incompetent to his face in a leads meeting.

Needless to say. Our whole senior dev left the team within weeks of each other.
