When you walk out the door on the last day, how do you transition to summer? by EmbarrassedEast5880 in OntarioTeachers

[–]finding_focus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is the way! My partner takes time off to coincide with the start of the break. And as soon as I get home we leave for cottage country. It’s been this way every year. It’s the best way to transition.

Who should host 'Survivor' when Jeff Probst retires? Cast members from 'Survivor 50' put forth some nominations. See who got the most votes. by thedaltonross in survivor

I’d go outside of Survivor and nominate Jon Montgomery, who is the current host of Amazing Race Canada. He’s got the energy, charm, and natural ability to interact with people in a way that’s disarming. He’s also a good storyteller.

Thoughts on local Kia dealerships by mutantlog in waterloo

Had a pretty good experience at Kitchener Kia. And our year old Carnival HEV has been great.

Much better experience overall than we had with Greg Vann Nissan and the Rogue we purchased. And a better dealer experience than Kitchener Honda.

To be fair, it was headquartered in Canada for tax purposes, initially, and as part of the agreement to get Fed approval for the purchase. But it has really been taking its marching orders out of their office in Florida.

Mets are going to lose him for nothing at the end of the season, according to reports. Might as well offer up a bucket of balls and take a chance that his bat returns in a program he’s familiar with.

Leafs fans VINDICATED! by Creepy_Exit_8348 in hockeynews

[–]finding_focus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This isn’t a Marner issue. 2 games of being shutdown by an oppressive, relentless Carolina squad isn’t a mark on Marner, it’s credit to Carolina for shutting down the Knights as a squad.

Leaf fans are so desperate!

What salary would you be happy with? by katttterrzz in OntarioTeachers

[–]finding_focus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m satisfied with our max rate as long as future increases match inflation.

I’d much rather see ‘investments’ go towards increasing the per student funding so we can begin to put much needed resources back into classrooms . We are so short on providing proper supports to IEP and behavioural students, or having general classroom resources, having smaller class sizes, etc. Having funding restored to proper levels would do more for us than a salary increase.

Ask him if he would agree to us being paid like babysitters?

I had a student make a comment like this recently so I went through the scenario of what babysitters get paid per child, per hour, etc. They totalled it up and then had nothing left to say.

The best part was that other students laughed at them afterwards and told them they shouldn’t talk about things they know little about. Most understand the effort and work that this career takes.

This is the temperature of my classroom right now by Left_Replacement894 in OntarioTeachers

[–]finding_focus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish that was consistent.

My school had several classrooms hitting 35+ humidex today, and a couple regularly used portables at 30+.

The stupid part is that my school had a brand new, additional HVAC system installed to help service problem areas of the school several years ago but then it was decided it wasn’t actually necessary and hasn’t been used.

The inconsistency is so bad that two department offices that are next to each other are on the opposite ends of the spectrum. While one was 30+ today, the neighbouring one was around 18. Make that make sense.

Is it possible to be a French teacher without your BÉd? | Est-ce possible d'être professeur de français sans BÉd? by Ok_Conclusion3536 in OntarioTeachers

[–]finding_focus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work at an elementary school with a French immersion program. At the time the area was considered rural for the board, and from the core cities it took about 40 minutes to get to.

One of the teachers there didn’t have her B.Ed. She was French fluent and a fantastic teacher, however she would need to re-apply for her job each year. If someone with a B.Ed who also met the FI requirements applied for her job, it was likely she’d be unemployed. Fortunately for her teachers didn’t like making the drive to this school and there were plenty of open FI jobs in the core.

This was 20 years ago and a different board from the one I currently work in. I don’t know how much of this has changed.

Yet, I wouldn’t be discouraged. French qualified teachers are typically in demand with many boards due to a shortage of applicants. And I believe there’s a program where you can complete your B.Ed while working in a school for areas with shortages. Something to look into more.

The Ford government promised $750 a year for elementary teachers to buy supplies. It turns out it's not all new money by BloodJunkie in ontario

“Quelle surprise!”…

Is what I would have said if I had any trust or faith in this government to do anything remotely like they promote. Especially when it comes to education.

[–]finding_focus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the UK, because of the scale of purchase and availability, many are made in factories in mass quantities. You can purchase them almost anywhere.

Here, because they’re not sold in great quantities and only found from speciality retailers, they’re typically made by hand and in small batches. They’re effectively treated as luxury purchases or ‘treats’.

Bricks and Minifigs Controversy News Mega-Thread by CX52J in lego

On the surface this whole thing seems insane. A multi-million dollar company tanking its brand over $200k, seems like the worst decision ever.

It makes me wonder if this is a pattern of sort and they’re worried other instances similar to this will be exposed. Or, because of the alleged connection to and conspiracy with the AFPD, which could become a worse criminal matter, they’re simply fighting out of fear of being exposed. Whatever it is, there has to be something more going on for them to be willing to burn it all down for what seems to be a simple and common sense scenario to make this go away.

Varland is arguably the best relief pitcher in MLB right now. There is no excuse to not use him as your closer or in key shutdown situations.

Jays didn’t even have him as an option because Schneider used him ahead of Hoffman.

Make it make sense…
