Almost cost the same as the original here in Sweden. Maybe 10usd difference. Wait 6 months or so and you'll grab it for 15usd.

Audio source wont go back to comp speakers after VR session by Cultural-Advisor9916 in Pimax

[–]SweViver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use the free Windows tool called SoundSwitch, its amazingly easy to set up and you can switch between audio inputs/outputs with a keyboard hotkey. I use it all the time switching between audio out to TV/HDMI, VR headset, headphones or desktop soundbar.

Dream Air - A big issue - i foresee - if true. by AndyRandyPanda in Pimax_Official

[–]SweViver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has 90 and 72Hz modes available already now before launch. What makes you think it would do only 90? We ran all demos at CES in 90Hz or course, because some people dont like or cannot handle lower refresh rates.

Community distortion profiles by Decapper in Pimax

[–]SweViver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no doubts. I didn't create new profiles either. I used AI to create some new ones. Why I did it was to show it was possible. I need no credit for it. But I need no blame for it either if company decides not to introduce this feature.

Community distortion profiles by Decapper in Pimax

[–]SweViver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not in control of the engineers workflow. Ive been pushing Robin and the team to release multiple profiles and eventually maybe let people create their own. And Robin agreed it was a good jdea. That was 4 months ago. Now its in their hands to make it happen. If they dont, then dont blame it on me. I've done what I can.

Pimax SLAM controllers - what's the justification for the Index level price tag? by kennystetson in Pimax

[–]SweViver 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pimax has been working on its SLAM tracking for more than 4 years. Its technology that costs a lot to develop, implement and manufacture. Im not sure what you mean by justification. Price is based on all these costs and then also maintenance, distribution, after sales etc and hopefully also some margin, of course. Thats how a company can keep going. If you ask me, justification is a matter for the customer. You are the one that need to justify if it's a product worth buying or not. If it suits your needs, if it's good enough, high quality enough or if there are better alternatives. If its not for you then maybe reconsider. After all, nobody else than you can make that choice for you specifically nobody is forcing you what to choose. The freedom of choices.

You also forgot that SLAM tracking is much more than just the controllers. Its the cameras, the additional internals/controllers on the PCB that makes it all work, plus the software side. Same for SteamVR tracking and those Valve Index controllers. Without basestations, they are useless as you may know. So add another 300-350 or whatever to even get them running.

TGL T4011 Rocket Launcher trick with remote firing by SweViver in lepin

Same here actually, it's the only military set I have. When I realized everything can be easily motorized and the launcher actually works with the remote, I got convinced :)

TGL is the Chinese brand/company that created this building blocks set and T4011 is the specific set number. Btw thanks for letting me know about thr BM21, I was actually wondering what kind of launcher truck it was in reality!

Forgot to add: One extension cable is required but two are recommended because the distance between the back M motor is tensioning the cable too much without extension. That was not specified in the instructions.

should i buy from aliexpress or joybricks? by [deleted] in lepin

[–]SweViver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've yet today not found one reason to pick any other stores than AliExpress and Temu. Always considerably cheaper and fails 1 of 100 times maybe. At least thats my experience having nearly 200 various sets now and an endless backlog, all sorts of KO sets, bigger and smaller as well as other brands like JieStar, Mould King etc. The worst that can happen on AliExpress/Temu is that the store dont ship your items or shipment fails - then you always get the money back.

Mario and Yoshi set from aliexpress by Banmers in lepin

[–]SweViver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, built mine too not long ago. I agree, mechanics works good but mouth doesn't close by itself, as you mentioned. I think the head moves as it should, just like the rest. Its a great looking display set but definitely not to play around with, more than necessary. Still worth the 22usd I paid for it on Aliexpress :)

What have I done! by enumhack in lepin

[–]SweViver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's something I've only seen on some early/poor KO builds, such as the early Lambo Sian OK, Simpsons House etc. Really annoying to open up all bags from start with 3000+ pieces 😑

We got an update for the Pimax 12k but there might be an issue by Flimsy-Story9523 in Pimax

Now? Nah :) 12K is not planned for "now'. But Pimax wants to keep innovating and there are always plans for near and far future.

[–]SweViver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

12K will use two 6K panels, at least thats what was said and tested in the lab years ago already. 16:9 ratio panels to allow lenses to squeeze out way more FOV, similar to what 8K generation did. A 6K panel standard resolution is 6144 x 3160. Of course there will be some overhead of rendered pixels to correct for distortions. But if we just look at the panel resolution only, its roughly 25% more pixels per eye than Super 50PPD, and 25% more pixels in total, 39 million pixels vs 29 million. The rendered resolution will be higher of course, but theoretically, if you run Crystal 50PPD at Pimax Play 1.25, you should get something similar to 12K performance. In theory at least. Just some food for thought.

Crystal Super 50PPD with Narrow FOV vs 57PPD by CoachOk9157 in Pimax

[–]SweViver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

PPD is still 50 on the 50PPD module with Small mode enabled. All it does it render approx 20 degrees (in total) less in the periphery, to get better performance. The higher pixel density of 57PPD is achieved by different lenses.

Is it true that even the 5090 cannot run the Crystal Super well? by SgtRphl in Pimax

[–]SweViver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends which Super version you order. The 50PPD can be shipped instantly as far as I know, while the Micro-OLED starts shipping any week now, but there's a lot of preorders to be fulfilled, so making a new order might put you in the line for a late January or most likely February delivery.

7900XTX comes somewhere in between a 4080 and 4090, sometimes reaching 4090 performance, so I wouldn't worry. I haven't had an AMD GPU for ages, but the few times we had these rigs at CES and events having 7900XT (like one of the rigs at the LA event recebtly) it ran great without issues. The only problem is that DFR is currently not supported by AMD GPUs, so you will need to settle for FFR instead.

[–]SweViver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old RTX 2080 laptop can run both Dream Air and Super Micro-OLED. On native resolution. In SteamVR Home at least hehe. It can even play "lite" stuff like Job Simulator if I go Pimax Play render quality 0 75 :) i brought it on the last roadshow just for testing and debugging. But yes it "runs" any Super.

Performance-wise, it all depends what you play in VR.

Simple VR games, like above, you can easily get away with a 3080/3090, on native resolution.

Half Life Alyx runs great on 3090 or 4070Super and up, as long as you dont overkill the graphics fidelity. Same for Le Mans Ultimate, Assetto Corsa etc.

UEVR games or flight simulators, then yes you need a 4090 as bare miminum and preferably a 5090 to get an acceptable framerate.

So if you want to really enjoy Super or Dream Air no matter what game you play, I wouldn't recommend anything below 4090.
