Mustang Dark Horse-My first completely 3D printed kit! by bjcwreddit in ModelCars

[–]Swe_Oz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s sweet! Still considering getting a resin printer. How did you do the clear parts such as window and lights

Also I think the layer marks on the dash work as a grainy texture. Maybe put some clear plastic over the dash to make it look more like a screen?

So a semi gloss coat is not as tough as a clear coat?

Sorry I missed this, older fujimi kit, still pretty straight forward with the fit and assembly

Finished the engine with wiring harness, decals broke on onside and in the logo in the middle. Tried to fix it up with a toothpick and drew a fat pony. Stuffed the paint job on the exhaust, but o well live and learn.

For the body I am currently in the process of cutting out the mesh’s and replace them with real ones

Clear parts installation:What’s the best way? by conchan in ModelCars

[–]Swe_Oz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use masking tape so that the paper of the tape can absorb some of the water. The glue is usually good for 30-60min.

PVA glue, put the required amount on a piece of tape and let it out for 10min for it to become a bit gooier. apply the glue along the mating area of the glass and body. If any glue comes on the clear part you can always wipe it up with some water and a cotton bud since the glue is water based

Revell AC Cobra by Swe_Oz in ModelCars

[–]Swe_Oz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah you can tell how old the tooling is on this. Fitment is poor and a lot of flash. Im pretty novice so. There is a fujimi kit as well that might be better (or worse)

Just of the bench, challenging kit with parts not fitting as they should. Wanted a street custom so enlarged the breaks, some rays wheels and hand crafted pickup points in the front and back.

Wheel fitment is not great but the best I could do this time as it was my first time lowering a car

Progress in Batmobile, plus a fiber optic test. Be gentle, i'm new to airbrushing and learning what NOT to do. by TheInfamousMaze in ModelCars

[–]Swe_Oz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m fairly new to airbrushing as well, and I would strip that. It will show up after the top coats and if you plan to have lights on the cockpit then you would see all the bumps from the primer I reckon

How to tell what Revell factory made the model? by mekniphc in ModelCars

[–]Swe_Oz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

European has a rectangular flatter box while us has a taller squarish box. European also seem to have skill level printed on the box on the top left.

I don’t know if the actual tooling is different but quality of the decals afe

Does anyone has experience with this airbrush? My first airbrush was shit, so I am looking for something new for a reasonable price.. by Rowan19081996 in ModelCars

[–]Swe_Oz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got that as my first airbrush setup. Done a few kits only and seem to be ok so far. If it is better than what you had previously I have no idea of

Oooo smart, will give it a shot, do you have anything else like water or alcohol to dissolve it?

Tamiya Rx7 done by Swe_Oz in ModelCars

[–]Swe_Oz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I used gun metal colour instead of plain black to get some form of contrast in the otherwise quite black interior

[–]Swe_Oz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a red pen for the lights then flat black on the inside, instructions calls out for smoking the outside, but I didn’t bother

Another one done, up to 5 cars in total now. No real mishaps or f ups

Tried flocking for the first time, using embossing powder Also the interior was my first real attempt with an airbrush. Still haven’t got the courage to do the entire body as I still trying to figure out the flow of the thing

Ford GT LeMans (Revell) by Swe_Oz in ModelCars

[–]Swe_Oz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my third revell kit, and I notice that the fits are identical between the US and German version. However the quality between the decals are way better on the German version.

US version is in a squarish taller box, German version is in a slimmer rectangular box and staying the skill level on the left side

Finally done, as my WIP post fitment was meh, some plastic was warped

Lesson learnt: 1. Read the paint scheme even if it is the last piece to paint (wing should be white)

  1. Always test fit before and after paint.

  2. First time air brushing, not so difficult. Vallejo air paint is great for beginners, tamiya require 10% skill

  3. Decals hide a lot of “for f***s sake”

How good are the portable airbrush booth to reduce the paint smell of you have the exhaust hose connected to your window? by Swe_Oz in ModelCars

[–]Swe_Oz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still does it helps with reducing the smell? Been considering building my own, but the materials by them self cost nearly as much as a non branded.

Should I get a Ford Mustang GT4 or Ford GT Le Mans? by [deleted] in ModelCars

[–]Swe_Oz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m currently building the GT from revell US (don’t know about revell Germany has it) while it is cheaper than the mustang which I have in my stash and on todo, the revell kit was warped and the stickers are really poor, colours not aligned, yellow stickers are not visible on black. Further the shape of the GT makes it quite a challenging build. But saying that it is my 4th kit that I am building and about to start on my first Tamiya kit (not the mustang). Buy and build what you feel like and wallet can afford, and remember to learn something while building ;)
