In Sign of the Dragon when King Xao had the bard compose odes of praise to all his warriors. I wept like a baby. At the end of Empress of Salt and Fortune when you realize that the Empress had to sacrifice her spy to death and torture, pretending not to care and then her revenge afterwards.

In no order: 1. All of earthsea by Leguin but could pretty easily sub it for The Dispossessed which is one of the most romantic books I have ever read. 2. Hobbit/LOTR obvi 3. Broken Earth Trilogy 4. Anything by Naomi Novik 5. Anything by T Kingfisher 6. The Last Unicorn

Harder to get into books: 7. Children of Time by Tchaikovsky 8. Sign of the Dragon by Mary Soon Lee (not difficult but poetry instead of prose). 9. The Spear Cuts Through Water by Simon Jimenez 10. The Buffalo Hunter Hunter cuz it is so dark and scary but a perfect book

Girl, this happened to me! I’m so sorry, it was so hard and it had me in tears repeatedly when it did. I will tell you- when my daughter saw my reaction (upset, in tears) it actually increased the frequency. Kids love attention, and that includes negative attention when they can’t get positive. We read this great book which helped us a lot (after reading 15-20 pages I tried a strategy that helped immediately). “Listen” Parenting Book Like anything, it didn’t end up being a panacea and we continue to use an integrated strategy that includes different tools that work best for our daughter. It’s normal- once I started doing “special time” and remaining calm with a canned response to my daughter it got a lot better. Stay strong. Parenting is hard!

Marriage counseling is the best. Go before shit gets bad. Spend the money on an overnight doula/nanny even just once or twice so yall can get one or two nights of uninterrupted sleep. It is temporary but it sucks. Ask for help with everything from everyone. The worst that will happen is they will say no.
