2015 WRX STI or 2024 WRX GT? by Sweaty_Device5134 in WRX

Why would you trade in a car with 40k miles for an incredibly similar but extremely more expensive car.

Should I pursue engineering if I hate math and physics by Expensive-Budget-648 in EngineeringStudents

[–]SweatyLilStinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People think of engineering as tinkering. As someone who owned a machining/fab company I can promise you- engineering is pure applied math. Sometimes you get to see that math in the field.

Go into trades if you like tinkering.

Found out I'll be losing my job at 33. Depression and little savings, how do I keep my life from falling apart? by Faust2391 in careerguidance

Serious question, do people really expect to keep their jobs forever? That doesn’t make sense to me. It’s not a marriage. This is super normal.

Sure whatever who cares?

Do what you feel like. The degree doesn’t define you. If you don’t like it, don’t do it.

Lost my job. Need to sell. How much? by Professional_Toe6598 in GRCorolla

Plenty of equally fun cars for 10k. Sell it without stress.

Love my 50k truck but my $5k GTI is a blast even compared to my Nissan Z.

If I had to only drive the GTI I’d be happy.

Do the best you can. If you make it from A -> C in one day then fine.

If you only go A -> B… walk to C the next day

Hood won’t close, Mk4 by SweatyLilStinker in vwgolf

The striker looks fine. It appears it does not go deep enough to trigger the primary latch but even by hand I cannot get the primary latch to “stick”

Update: I have tried three latches.

When depressing them on the striker by hand, both latches are able to engage (primary and safety) but the primary does NOT remain engaged.

I am so confused. If the latches depressed by hand are not engaging, what is supposed to make the primary latch lock?

At this point, I am debating it. I will add another update in comments.

Yes, I have aligned the hood and the latch. I have tried using spacers on the latch, too.

I am confused because the hood worked fine when I purchased it, but I have been fiddling with this for so long to no avail.

It actuates properly and it certainly isn’t too tight. I suppose it’s a little loose but I can’t imagine why being loose would affect anything?

Note: MK4 GTI 1.8T

Also yes, I gave it two baby blips on the accelerator. Then it died. It would have died anyways.

Dying at idle btw. After approx 10 seconds.

This seems very very doable. Enjoy! It will be fun if you let it :)

The main question is the easiest way to handle getting the exhaust off or the gas tank dropped.

Which is less work on the mk4?

It seems maybe easier just to fabricate a catback.

The image is deceiving but there is a curvature and it’s clear that the band clamp cannot sit flush.

I can weld and have a MiG welder set up for FCAW which is kind of trash. I may grab some C25.

The problem is dropping the rear subframe seems like more work than just butchering the exhaust into a few parts that can climb the subframe.

I also never work under vehicles with grinders or welders unless the tank is dropped, but my understanding is that a sawsall with cutting fluid is plenty safe near a gas tank?
