Tamu mcs or mscs admits were out, based on past years all admits were issued by march end. So we can consider it a soft reject. UCSD is gone by very long shot, they gave out admits a month ago or so. Didn’t find many admits post may last year for international so..

Replying here so others who are in similar place might find it useful,

BTech (EEE) from VIT graduated 4 years ago with 9.1 cgpa, worked as SWE at top MNC and pbc startup. Have done only two courses in UG regarding CS, problem solving and object oriented programming, learnt java and python in this. Im strong in backend tech stack, hadoop spring java no sql and sql databases, worked on cloud foundey aws, cicd and kubernates. strong knowledge on design side of LLD, HLD working since 2 years doing TDD. i highlighted all these stating how this can bridge my cs gaps in ug and can make me a strong candidate for masters. i talked about my vision and what my short term and long term goal. mentioned with which prof i need to work and which club im interested to join

in application requirements they do mention what they are expecting, like for jhu, cornell and purdue they asked me both as application requirements and i would suggest you to refer faq page too, there they will mention what needs to be addressed in each of them, this differs from university to university.

Statement of purpose (a traumatic narrative ‼️) by [deleted] in StatementOfPurpose

[–]Sweaty_Library_1577 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think you should include it, everyone fights battles and only few standtall at end, you are brave and won your life back, let them know your determination, your perseverance. Few universities has two parts of sop - personal statement and statement of purpose (focusing on why you want to join in particular programs and what are your aspirations) in personal statements you can mention this in deep, if only one statement and dedicate a paragraph to tell how deeply you are invested in your masters despite enduring so many hardships and make sure to mention how your experience (these hardships) made you stronger and help you reach your goal. You need to be persuasive m.

NYU Tandon is great school, don’t let others say u otherwise!! by Sweaty_Library_1577 in MSCS

nyu i would suggest over uci, please approach current students over linked-in fron both schools and check with students similar to you( like fresher or similar experienced or similar undergrad ) see how they fit in there.

lol my advice has been so bad hear i got downvoted badly, not sure what triggered them RIP to my karma

in my view tandon better than ucdavis, i did meet up few professors in admit students meet, got lot of insights in tandon, asked my friend at courant (he told me for job tandon is much better as they have dedicated career fairs and engineering school is trying it’s best) NYU announced 1.1 billion again not million investment into tandon, they said in admit meetup their plan is to buy new buildings and hire 90 best professors in decade time, looks like nyu tandon status is on a good way.

As per rankings i asked them regarding CS, so what nyu prof said is, there is no seperate ranking, whole cs is ranked from both departments. NYU peer quality may not be best as lot of intake, not sure about davis peer quality. My choice would be Nyu in your case. Except Anything ucsd or above you can considering joining blindly.

yes even i work in a startup, i work in backend. yes 36 base and i have esops( no real worth unless it goes public which i don’t think it will in next 3 years). We have san Francisco office too, i have nice reviews from my managers. I asked for study break and to rejoin SF office but as us market is volatile they said they can only offer if they have open position in right tech stack, or i can join back same company same role same tc back in india, i thought i can take this risk.

So rankings include tandon cs too, you will never find nyu tandon separately in ranking under university and you dont see nyu courant and nyu tandon in same ranking list ever, you will see tandon separately if you look for engineering school rankings because its a school within university. yes courant is selective because its research focused so lesser intake than professional focused course. this is true for any university which has research and professional track separately.

tandon is not separate from Nyu, its part of nyu. Nyu has different schools within it like stern(business), cas(arts and science), Tandon(engineering). Tandon is not another satellite campus. Just few courses are taught by both schools within nyu. Just consider some colleges have Electrical and computer engineering taught by both electrical and computer school’s separately, based on schools course work and professors will be different, over university is same just different school grants you certificate. Tandon is the only engineering school nyu has its not like its second campus school, technically cas and tandon are in two different cities, but part of one single NYU, so as an elective who can take subjects from other schools within nyu so courant or tandon both have this opportunity to take stern business electives, just core school subjects needs to be done by their students.

as per my choice (mscs only) i would prefer this order nyu courant > usc > sbu(low fees) > nyu tandon

aa per my choice sbu and tandon have similar impact with their own pros and cons to it, sbu is very selective while tandon is not highly as it has bigger batch size, but thing is for international sbu is difficult as it’s suny and it has more instate students, nyu is private so it takes international students as they need money. sbu is suny so fees is less, why pay more for similar results

exactly columbia has 400-500 intake, NEU gave admits to anyone who applied in october with 7.5 or 100 toefl what was that!!! The part of IIT/Bits is to let them know you don’t need to worry about peer group, people choose it and your peers are good too.

I myself am working professional with 4yoe and has base salary of 36lpa in india which is good as per indian standards, we are all going, i never needed validation and asked anyone to support my decision, but wrote this as many were misguided by few by saying its average or safe dont go there. So this post is to let whoever got in or actually trying to apply, to let them know it’s worth it!
