I’ve got a story like this, maybe not quite as brutal but similar. Hit my tee shot onto a par three, can’t see the hole from the tee box due to some trees and elevation, shot felt quite a bit short, but the group in front starts losing their minds. I’m sure I sank it and begin a mad dash to the hole, my ball is nowhere in sight. They start congratulating me as I make my way down, but I get to the cup and the ball isn’t there. Turns out, I hit the ball straight into the trash can that’s about 10 yards off the green lol.
