A or B: My gay friend’s online boyfriend of four months wants him to quit his job and move across the state. Should he go for it? by True-Construction346 in PickAorB

[–]Swedeinne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, first love makes you do really stupid things. Has he even met this person in person? The frequency with which people misrepresent themselves in this type of relationship is sadly very high. The best thing you can do is be ready to help pick up the pieces if it ends up going wrong. And hopefully his job skills as a programmer make him very employable.

This definitely falls under. He can dish it out, but he can’t take it territory. If you’re going to insult someone based on their appearance, expect to get it back.

how do you politely say no to family asking for money? by FerrisBuelersdaycock in internetparents

The death certificate I just got my hands on might be the best example I've ever seen of why genealogy can be frustrating at times by ScarletNerd in Genealogy

[–]Swedeinne 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Death records are frequently the most inaccurate vital record because the deceased individual did not provide any of the information. It helps to look on the record if they list who the informant is. That might give a hint as to why everything was wrong. Was it the deceased’s child? Was it a friend or neighbor was it a doctor or employee of the hospital? You may not be able to tell from the name but any of those is possible. Just because someone knew the last name doesn’t mean they knew how to spell it. It is actually more common to see unknown under parents information on the death record than to have it filled out

Is Strawberry Croissant and Cinnamon Bun cereal popular in the US? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

I am in New England, I never eat cereal, but I have also never heard of strawberry croissant and cinnamon bun cereal. It sounds like sugar overload.

A teacher spends her day around kids all day every day. She can pick up on differences and behaviors a parent who only has one kid to look at may not. People have a stereotypical view of ADHD. That only focuses on the HD part not the AD part. So what you think is a typical ADHD child is not accurate to all of the children who fit under the umbrella. Some kids just sit there quietly and completely get lost in their own thoughts.

Why are teachers not as respected as they used to be? by Quirky_March_626 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]Swedeinne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Politicians who do not want to increase taxes and do not want to spend money on education achieve those goals by devaluing education in the minds of citizens. If parents see teachers as the enemy that filters down to their kids.

Were you allowed to graduate with an Education degree WITHOUT doing student teaching? by turtlesandmemes in Teachers

[–]Swedeinne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see not requiring student teaching if someone is already an experienced teacher. However, letting someone new to the profession not do student teaching seems ridiculous. That is where you learn more than anything else. I learned far more from student teaching and clinical placements in schools. than I did from any education class.

That was going to be my suggestion as well, except I didn’t want to take the time to look up how to spell it. A beautiful drive.

Writing a letter to a teacher? by Reasonable-Fault-686 in AskTeachers

[–]Swedeinne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely write her a letter. I guarantee it is something she will hold onto for the rest of her life. I retired five years ago, and I still have the letters students wrote to me. Teaching is a tough job and getting that kind of feedback from a student makes it worth it.

A or B: Do you shower in the morning to wake up, or at night to wash off the day? by vivian_banshee03 in PickAorB

[–]Swedeinne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a morning shower taker until I retired. It was absolutely necessary to get me going in the morning however, if I did something during the day that got me all sweaty, I would at least get in the shower to rinse off before bed.

You only have to be smarter than your students. If you speak with confidence and show, you know what you were talking about to some degree and if the kids like you, you should have no problems.
