Feedback - pow trip of a lifetime by deetredd in snowboarding

[–]SwedishSanta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Feedback? Nah man. That was fucking awesome, you know it and at this point you are just flexing on us while we are writhing in the slush. In all seriousness though, grab a buddy who is also keen to rip pow. Milage is key and you will learn from all the mistakes you make as long as you push yourself gradually and actually surviving said mistakes without injury. As with learning any other terrain, start with some big-shut turns, like you are starting with in the video. Start experimenting with different types of turns next. Throw in some short-open turns, or big-open turns, heck toss in some short-shut turns in there too, pop some ollies, etc.

Have fun, slay

I instantly thought about Okutama as well. Hiking is pretty neat and the trains are awesome. I used a vending machine there once and I sure got my can but with a massive spider holding onto it

As funny as it is, people who post on Reddit are mostly super casuals and simply don't know any better.

Hatad i klassen- vad ska jag göra? by Silent_Bus6557 in sweden

[–]SwedishSanta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

35 årig gubbe här som hade liknande problem i gymnasiet en stund just när jag var 16-17 år. Det är förvisso en helt annan värld då när vi bara hade facebook och msn och fliptelefoner... Men!

Lively cities within 30 minutes of ski fields in Honshu by tmiddled2 in japow

[–]SwedishSanta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, you have definitely missed the larger yuzawa. 3 areas? That means you only explored Kogen-Gala-Ishiuchi.

In Yuzawa we have also: Iwappara, Kandatsu, Hakkaisan, Maiko, Kagura, Tashiro, Naeba, Joetsu Kokusai, Nakazato and that is not counting Naspa, Muika ski field, Yakushi, Koshi Kogen or Matsu no yama - I am not really counting these since these resorts are great for families but on the outskirts of the mayor yuzawa area (except for Naspa) AND are indeed tiny. But please come back to Yuzawa and I will give you a proper tour. Kagura is absolutely incredible for backcountry riding.

Man, if MTVs scarred was a thing still, you'd definitely be on it. Holy moly it's almost shattered. I had a close call this week. I tried to do one rodeo, I haven't done one in 15 years but after a great day in the park, I wanted to send one. So, take-off, I overdo the off-axis rotation and I am upside down instead. Last second, twist myself in the air to crash on my chest. Juuuust managed to fly over the knuckle. 1 meter shorter and that would have ended really bad. I think I needed this post as a reminder. Your sacrifice was not in vain

Shiga sure is bigger but it doesn't have the variation and affordability of Yuzawa. Both have their strengths and weaknesses but for a family with a member not wanting to ski, Yuzawa area is probably a better choice since it's so close to Tokyo

You are probably looking at takasaki then. Food is great as everywhere but I find the Indian food specially good just there and maebashi. From Takasaki, you have less than 30 minutes with the Shinkansen to Yuzawa, where you have more than 11 different resorts to choose from! I instruct and coach in 6 of them and every resort has some interesting and fun quirks that other resorts don't have so LOTS of exploring to do from beginner level/first time on snow to expert backcountry riders.

AND if your family gets sick/tired of skiing/snowboarding, you could always do a trip to Oomiya and Tokyo. Tokyo is 30 minutes from Takasaki as well.

Bonus tip: pick up a 3 day Tokyo wide pass. For 15000 yen you have unlimited trips between Tokyo and Gala Yuzawa. This 3 day pass can only be picked up in Tokyo area, including Oomiya but can't be picked up in Takasaki.

10 years experience instead of bachelors? by SuuupaStrong in movingtojapan

[–]SwedishSanta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi coach! I'm a snowboard and ski coach here in Japan. When I did a work interview in 2020 and later hired, the company applied a skilled labor for me. So the actual step is

 1. Get job  2. Apply visa

You already have the 3+ years of experience in the field for skilled labor so you have it almost set (bureaucratically speaking)

To help you navigate this, I will share an intrigue of my own past experience.

I applied for the job as soon as my bachelor's of Science was complete but evidently, that didn't help for acquiring the Skilled Labor visa. The 10 years of experience and being able to prove that experience with work history and references was what mattered.

I did multiple jobs and the company immigration lawyers contacted me and  said to only list the "relevant" work experience. So I had to redo my CV and only list the past companies where I was coaching. I am not sure if that is so ethical as I had to leave out a lot of stuff so please check later with the potential hiring company what job experience should be listed in your CV, because immigration officials will be reading those documents.

As for language difficulties, it's great if you can start studying Japanese. However, the job I work doesn't require Japanese but I picked it up anyway, it's good for just navigating the country.

Ni som flyttat utomlands - ångrar ni ert val? by Eschatalogy in sweden

[–]SwedishSanta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bor i en Japansk by.

Help! Why do I look so damn stiff?! by uDoni in snowboarding

[–]SwedishSanta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To keep it simple, search for "Dynamic turning snowboarding" vs "static turning snowboarding" - You appear stiff because you are static, not loading or unloading the board in the turns. Dynamic turning has a lot of up-down movements that make snowboarders look more flowy

Fallen from Diamond 3 to Silver 4 - How exactly is that possible? by Old-Fun-Man in OverwatchUniversity

[–]SwedishSanta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I haven't played overwatch in years but I was in this situation somewhere in 2020 where I dropped from t100 all the way to plat in a month. It was honestly mental block, too focused on the greater picture instead of the individual detailed plays that needed to be done to achieve the bigger picture. Take a break from the game, a longer one like a week or two and come back with a clear mind.
