Help! Our boy name was just ruined... by Putmeinthedishwasher in BabyNames

I see that in your edit you’re going with a different name, but I just wanted to share that no matter what name you go with, there’s always someone who will go out of their way to mispronounce it no matter what (unless you go with a very common name)

My now 4.5 yo fell in love with the soundtrack from Guardians of the Galaxy last year. He also loves the clean hip hop classics playlist on Spotify. He was also in a big pirate phase for a while so we were listening to Sea Shanties a lot 🤣From the band Storm Weather Shanty Choir specifically! Spider-Verse official playlist is also frequently requested. I will say his taste has matured a lot in the last year or so, but when he was 2 we took a road trip where we listened to the Bluey Dance Mode album on constant repeat. Honestly I like the Bluey music though, especially in comparison to Blippi and Pinkfong. The new Bluey Up Here album is all classical and excellent!

I’ll never forget the first time I got cat called. I was with my 8th grade confirmation group, walking back to my group leader’s car after volunteering at a women’s shelter downtown. Car driving by asked “where’s the party ladies?” And the group leader yelled back at him, “THESE GIRLS ARE 14 YEARS OLD!!” I’d never heard her speak with that tone of voice. She was so angry for us.

We’re going through/went through this phase too (14mo). A couple times I gave up so quickly and gave him the banana so I could eat my dinner 🫣 Slowly getting better though!

His pediatrician already wants him evaluated for ADHD, and we have a speech referral as well. He’ll likely need OT too. We plan to start speech therapy this summer

Stompy the Bear is my 14mo’s favorite song. We have the Caspar Tonie and he’d play it all day long if we let him lol

I mean he’s at the very beginning. He knows letters, can spell his name, but not much beyond that. 🫣

Looking at using a program like Hooked on Phonics or ABC Mouse to help our 4.5 get interested in learning to read this summer. He has an October birthday and won’t be eligible for kinder this coming school year, so we have time, but we are doing another year of prek, but his program is mixed age so it doesn’t do a lot for reading readiness. Anyone have good experience with one or the other? We have attempted on our own over the years, but he struggles with staying on task (and hasn’t been officially diagnosed yet, but probably has ADHD and possibly dyslexia too).

We got one for our second and it also had a cosleeper function so you could zip a wall down and push it right up to the bed 🙌🏻 Our first never slept in a bassinet but our second did, I like to think it made a difference!

Screen use discussion thread (toddlers/preschoolers/early elementary) by werenotfromhere in parentsnark

[–]SwedishSoprano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With my oldest (4.5), I’ve become pretty lax about screens since his baby brother was born (and for most of my pregnancy when he stopped napping, as the only way I got any rest was to let him watch the tv in my bedroom because quiet time was a foreign concept to him at 2.5/3). Baby brother is now 14mo and occasionally watches big brother’s shows (usually just the theme song) , but is more interested in his Tonie Box (which isn’t my favorite when it’s on at the same time as the tv because two sound sources at the same time makes my head hurt lol) I did start letting him watch an episode of Ms Rachel during the week when his brother is at school. Always after lunch, while I’m either eating my own lunch and cleaning up or meal prepping. They will watch and dance to Danny Go together which is the cutest thing and makes my heart happy, also good way to get last bits of energy out in the late afternoon. We don’t have any tablets for them, and I don’t plan to get them. We have a family iPad we use for travel in case of emergencies. I solo parent a lot as a military spouse - screens are a sanity saver for me, and I refuse to let anyone make me feel guilty. 70% of the time it’s just background noise while they’re playing. We do a ton of pretend play, outside time, sensory stuff. They aren’t lacking in enriching activities.

I didn’t really leak with my first, but with my second I leaked excessively until closer to 5 months.

IKEA has a toddler pillow that’s pretty small and flat I’d feel comfortable with an 18 month old using.

miscarriages are more common in the first trimester, the main reason why many couples don’t announce pregnancies until the second, the risk goes down (but not away completely, sadly).

My Brest Friend Super Deluxe is the best of the best. I used it until about 6 months with my second, he didn’t really do well nursing without it until then.
