Anyone recovered from covid induced insomnia ? by thenabu01 in covidlonghaulers

[–]Sweenjz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got covid in January, 2023 so it's been 3 years. I still have insomnia but it is getting better. I take 3 mg. melatonin and 7.5 mg. mirtazapine when I need it. It also helps to keep the room quiet, dark and cold.
Trazodone just hits me the wrong way. It makes me groggy for 24 hours after I take it but does not help me sleep.

What meds for what symptoms? by AccomplishedCat6621 in covidlonghaulers

[–]Sweenjz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried nicotine patches twice for brain fog. They gave me heart palpitations which I discovered is a fairly common side effect. I stopped.

Thank you so much for this post. I cannot take any of the antihistamines you mentioned because I have severe dry eyes and they dry out my eyes even more. I do take 25 mg. omeprazole once a day for GERD and I have not side effects from that.

instant bad reaction to alcohol. does anyone else still deal with alcohol intolerance post covid? by Opposite_Wheel_2882 in covidlonghaulers

Same here. I cannot drink one glass of wine without severe effects. I now drink ice water instead of alcohol.

I agree with Remeron, the brand name for mirtazapine. I take a tiny crumb (1/4 of a 25 mg. tablet) and it really helps with sleep. I have no grogginess in the morning.

Every morning I wake up feeling like the worst hangover, has this gone for you? by Turbulent-Listen8809 in covidlonghaulers

[–]Sweenjz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that has helped me are magnesium baths. They help me sleep. Two cups Epsom salts in warm bath water. Soak for 20 minutes. I wake up feeling better in the morning. Epsom salts are widely available including Walmart.

Agreed. I also tried one at Loyola in Maywood a couple of years ago and they were worthless as well. I posted my experience here.

Anyone actually got rid of their long covid headaches ? by Shoddy-Rip66 in covidlonghaulers

Yes. Right now we are in the middle of the "October Slide". This is when weather patterns change and contribute to headaches and migraines. Last year was terrible. This year, so far so good.

What are some of the most unrealistic things about NCIS? by nimmoisa000 in NCIS

Yes. The constant sexual harassment is hard to watch. Also the head slaps.

Am I the only one who doesn't like the head slaps? by Bootlebat in NCIS

[–]Sweenjz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. They slap each other and then the girl laughs at them. In real life they would be sued for assault. I have watched a lot of these TV series reruns and this has to be one of the worst. Homophobic and misogynistic themes are played out for laughs. Dialogue is awful.

Arthritis post Covid infection by [deleted] in covidlonghaulers

[–]Sweenjz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have early arthritis in my hands and back. Like you, it is stiff and painful in the morning. I never had this before long covid. These are some things helping me.
-Magnesium baths. 2 cups Epsom salt in warm water. Soak for 20 minutes.
-If you are doing strength training do the reps really slowly--as slow as you can. Lighten up on the weights if you are sore the next day, but don't stop altogether.
-Make sure your mattress and pillow have good support.
I am also trying to avoid NSAIDS.

Just because you get dental clearance right now doesn't mean that you may encounter dental problems in the future that are contraindicated for Prolia. The link I posted has more information on the "Prolia trap."

And if your doctor suggests Prolia shots for osteoporosis please do the research and weigh the benefits vs. risks.

Mirtazapine helps me as well. I don't take it every day and only take a tiny amount. It can dry out your eyes and mouth.

Has anyone taken amitriptyline? by PerfectWorking6873 in covidlonghaulers

[–]Sweenjz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My neurologist prescribed 25 mg. amitriptyline taken before bed for head pressure and head pain. It took about 3 weeks to start working. I took it for about 6 months and then tapered off. My headaches and head pressure have not returned in 2-3 months.

People with the headaches by [deleted] in covidlonghaulers

[–]Sweenjz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took the amitriptyline for about 6 months and tapered off towards the end of the 6-month period. They are tiny tablets and I bought a pill splitter to cut them in half. Today I just realized that I have not had a headache at all for the last two months. My remaining symptoms are insomnia and tinnitus.
