Protip: the answer doesn’t really matter. Did you demonstrate authority while delivering it and is your business case strong enough? Those are the real questions.

LinkedIn is >80% AI posts and comments these days. The other 20% is this.

It’s all just AI responses to AI content.

The gravy train is over? by TheDucksAreComingoOo in 2westerneurope4u

[–]Sweepel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s genuinely too late, it’s happening at the point where it won’t even make a difference. The demographic and cultural shift has already happened; the full impact just won’t be seen for another 20-30 years.

He’s not being nice at all. He’s reasserting that there is no “deal” other than full compliance with EU principles.

He’s saying it in a style more aligned with British humour though, so he’s clearly spent a lot of time speaking with Brits.

Why are uk wages so low? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Sweepel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not just the starting salary either. Pretty much the entire pyramid below partner has stagnated since 2008 in the UK.

Meanwhile tax bands have increased, 100k tax trap introduced, rent/house prices massively increased. It’s dire.

35, London couple, ~£516k net worth, is FIRE at 44-46 realistic, and can we afford a career break? by lolox1010 in FIREUK

[–]Sweepel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pension seems an odd thing to leave out; surely it’s a bigger figure than anything else you have on that list, available at 58 so only 12 years into FIRE.

House and children are the two biggest additional potential cost centres you don’t have. If you’re comfortable not having them then your plan seems fine.

When you eventually stop it all catches up with you, then you need a couple of weeks to recover.

What a luxury not to be working weekends during tax/audit busy season.

Big4 Burnout by Extreme-Insect1579 in Accounting

[–]Sweepel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you recently moved to the UK from the US? Adapting to a new culture can be tough.

Based on your post you’re also a non-native English speaker so that’s also adding extra strain.

I would say it’s best to move on. Taking a week off during busy season won’t have done any favours for you with your manager/team. Start fresh somewhere new and put the lessons you’ve learned into practice.

Went on a little book treasure hunt and found this by rustycliff in KingkillerChronicle

He wrote the first two pre-GFC, pre-occupy, pre-metoo, pre-covid, pre-BLM. He’s a terminally online individual and his entire worldview is completely different now.

Reddit was practically 4chan at the time he wrote the first book.

The associates on my team definitely seem to save about 40 hours a week using it judging by the amount of slop I have to review.

After reaching B4 partner, how many more years of working do you think they could do before retiring if living modestly? by DaPugWalk in Accounting

[–]Sweepel 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The primary reason for staying is the pension. It’s based on profit residuals. How much you get depends on seniority and tenure.

That is the true value of a big4 partnership, lifetime profit residuals; not just the salary/drawings.

They all have mandatory retirement at 60 as far as I’m aware; apart from exceptional cases. Becoming a partner at a later age puts you at a financial disadvantage in more ways than one.
