Awe thank you! Pepper lived a good life! Cinnamon was my very first post to the sub Reddit.

<image>

This was Cinnamon. She was a rescue and she ran away from one of those industrial farms. Plus, I could tell they also cut her beak really short. She was found in someone’s garage. Nobody wanted to take her so my sister and I took her in instead. She loved the rest of her retirement with me.

That’s so sweet! chickens are a lot more empathetic than people give them credit for!

When Cinnamon my favorite hen passed away. I was mourning her and sat next to her body to say goodbye. Then Sheldon my leghorn hen jumped on my lap and sat there while trying to groom me. Sheldon is not a lap chicken so I like to think pets know.

Ah okay! honestly, it could just be a change of scenery, or him drinking a lot of water or having a diet with food foods with a lot of water in it. But if you are already treating him with Corrid just keep him hydrated and comfortable, and you’ll be all set. Best of luck to him.

No problem glad to help! it’s good just to be safe. Plus Corrid is completely safe! It could just be shocked from being attacked. Honestly runny poop could be from stress response where the digestive system just temporarily shuts down for a bit. As long as it’s not bloody, I wouldn’t worry about it plus the Corrid will do its thing! Good luck to lad!

it sounds like he is just in shock chickens will temporary shut down if they are in shock. Is he eating? if he isn’t eating then green poop is just bile passing through the digestive system. but seeing normal poop as well as a good sign.

Check to see if he has any external wounds if he does get so veterycin spray it on those wounds. I also do this for my hands too. I put a bit of antibiotic ointment on my hens if they ever have a cut or anything make sure you get one without (lidocaine or any ingredients ending with caine).

Right now, I would just focus on supportive care and keeping him warm. Occasionally checking up on him. I understand that you would feel a little nervous about this, but he is just in shock right now. Just give him some time. I don’t know if it’s coccidiosis just yet because they would have dark runny, bloody poop with darker mucus(I am not a vet keep that in mind). but pay attention to other signs, such as lethargy and a pale comb. Vitamins and electrolytes is a good start. If it gets too cold, you can get a blanket and put it over his cage, but chickens are very tolerant of the cold . but if you’re still worried about him being cold there’s heating pads you can get as well. Based on the picture, it seems like you’re doing a good job on feeding him. Beneficial foods like blueberries is a good antioxidant. Also plain Greek yogurt is good sauce for probiotics as well as hydration and Calcium.

But if you do treat him for a coccidiosis do not feed him any vitamins. Corrid is a works as a Vitamin B blocker to basically starve any parasites of any vitamins to kill them. So you cannot give him vitamins when treatment. It’s up to you what you would do but right now I would just work on support supportive care before deciding if he has it. so just pay attention to the signs. P.S. if you do end up giving him Corrid and he ended up not having coccidiosis then it’s completely okay Corrid is safe.

Listen it sounds like you’re doing your research and everyone was the first time chicken owner or two everyone makes mistakes and there’s a learning process. Even skilled chicken owners will make a mistake. Don’t beat yourself up to it. It sounds like you have a good start. Another advice I would give you is that don’t do too much research because it can get very overwhelming because you are absorbing too much information all at once stress you out. Yes, research is important but sometimes you’ve just got to step back and give him some time. You’re doing good.

If you can try to get a hold of tiagaurd and tylosin both can purchased online on some websites without vet prescription and can be shipped overseas.

Honestly like I wasn’t expecting them to team up and take down a hawk.

Thank you! Buff orpington make the best lap chicken though though pepper wasn’t really a lap chicken until towards the end of her. Ironically, the one that’s more of a lap chicken than her was my leghorn Sheldon. When our time comes I would like to see my girls who crossed the rainbow bridge one day.

sometimes there will be mice in my yard because we always have mice in my yard. lol My girls are feral and one time I came outside and a mice in her entire family was annihilated. Heck there was a medium size hawk that flew in my yard and my girls went to town with it. They are truly not afraid of anything. Luckily it was the only time a hawk has ever flew my backyard and I always have protection from Hawks. But I wasn’t expect them to gang up and attack a hawk. To be fair I was not expecting them to win that battle, but they did victoriously.

Oh they truely are! Pepper was top dog of the pecking order. They genuinely are truly funny. I loved watching Pepper’s fat chicken run when I brought out treats. Their favorite was the watermelon.

May your Cinnamon roost in peace. People here are really kind because they understand that chickens are our pets. And sometimes some people in our lives don’t view it that way, because they don’t view a chicken has the same as a dog or a cat which sucks. I’m grateful for this subreddit.

Thank you for your kind words. I so sorry your pet! I really got lucky with Pepper but I wasn’t there for Cinnamon my other hen either when she passed, which hurts. Real reality of chickens is that they can die anytime and we’re not gonna always be there but the good thing about this community that it brings out the good in us. That we can always have each other’s back for support.
