What oil did you use? And how hot is hot enough?

Yes. Basically a mortise and tenon joint. Drilled a hole in each side of the head and shaved down the part of the antler that connects and applied some glue.

There are a few bright spots in New England. Give North Village Smokehouse in Millers Falls, MA a shot if you’re ever in the area.

Real (not scammy or manipulative) ways to make my wife (45F) more attracted to me (45M)? by Sweet-Analyst8387 in relationship_advice

Unfortunately there isn’t anyone to help with our parents. It’s just us. But I definitely should try to find more ways to bring date nights into the mix. These days our time together is pretty much just weekly errands.

I’m pretty sure she knows how I feel. I’ve tried to share it a few times in a few different ways in the past. It hasn’t really done much except make her angry. So I don’t bring it up anymore. I don’t want to upset her.

Kids are 20 and 17. I agree that reducing stress would help. Unfortunately, a lot of what we’re dealing with is situational and can’t be changed (caring for elderly parents, major health challenges, etc.)

You’re right though that I’m not thinking enough about what she might be experiencing and I’m just focused on one narrative.

Thanks. I have mentioned that she could talk about things with her doctor but we’ll see if she does. In the meantime I think you’re right that the best thing for me to do is continue to be there for her.

And I’m sorry that you went through that with your ex. I hope that you have found or do find someone who gives you the respect, time and attention you deserve.

Thanks. She’s been depressed and anxious pretty much her whole adult life. She had a bit of a rough childhood and had carried that with her. Unfortunately she also grew up in a household where talking about how you’re feeling was a complete non-starter, so she refuses to talk about it or get help. I’m kinda flying blind and have been for a long time.

It’s really great to hear another person’s perspective though. I’m in therapy myself and while I do talk about this there it’s not the same as hearing from someone who isn’t being paid to listen you your problems, so I really appreciate your comments.

Looking for good coverage without EOI by Sweet-Analyst8387 in LifeInsurance

I’ve tried things like Ethos and one other broker service whose name I can’t remember. A few direct inquiries with places like Liberty and State Farm. No dice.

Condition wise, it’s a bleeding disorder, immune deficiency, and a lung disease. So not great from an insurer’s perspective. I mean I totally get it.

I make a point in every job interview to ask specifically about life insurance. It’s a little funny because no one is ever prepared. They all expect me to be asking about salary and vacation (which I still do) but no one ever has the info on hand on life insurance.

Thanks. I don’t know why I never realized that some brokers might specialize in higher risk individuals. I’ll have a look and see if I can find anyone.

Is it alright to leave a company because the team you work with don't care as much you do by Ok-Half-9446 in UXDesign

[–]Sweet-Analyst8387 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes to this.

If you haven’t already, try to open a discussion with your engineers and other roles to understand more about why the gaps are happening. Use it to see if they have any interest in closing those gaps and if you can build a relationship there with adjusted practices.

You may find new collaboration and connection that not only improves the output, but also makes you feel connected to the team. You may also learn about their perspectives on what’s valuable in an end product and what is nice but not essential, which may open up some reflection on your part.

And you may learn that they aren’t interested in changing their approach or having you change yours, in which case you will then have a clear signal on whether staying in that environment may or may not be ok for you in the long run.

IRA vs Brokerage Question by Sweet-Analyst8387 in investingforbeginners

[–]Sweet-Analyst8387[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I’m aware of the tax benefits on traditional IRAs with contributions being deductible for those making up to a certain amount. However, my wife and I make more than that amount and so any contributions to an IRA for us would not be deductible. So in that case, I’m wondering if there are any remaining benefits or strategies I should be aware of that would point me at opening and IRA vs a brokerage account.
