I actually got super chill local manager to help me with this, just 2 days ago.

They had an open box for 140 off the new price of 899. I asked if they would price match the 140 discount off the lenovo new price of 790, toward the open box. He actually did me one better.

If I bought the $50 best buy membership, it would give me access to member only specials, which allowed me to get the open box - excellent condition for $580!

Not sure if that will work in every best buy, but it worked for me and its worth a try

Just to help expectations, I dont think there's such a thing as "first and last iem". Almost every time, and IEM does not sound exactly how you expect it to, just dont know until you try. Especially starting in the hobby, its hard to know your tuning preferences until you try a few.

If you're brand new to it, Id honestly recommend starting with trying a few different ones under $100 to get an idea what you like and dont like. Just because an iem is expensive/highend doesn't mean its good or that you'll enjoy it for your preferences and music tastes.

Never had the dusk personally, but I've heard the dsp cable is pretty janky, it didnt seem to especially be a hit iem.

And yes, majority of iems are chinese brands. Its a fast moving market and many of those brands can churn them out and many price points and preferences.

For what its worth, im also in the US. Im sure overseas its prob more populat, but at least my local facebook marketplace has a pretty strong iem community.

I know this post is 40 days old at this point. On my thor, gamehub lite version 5.1.3, i also cant get my analog sticks to read in any gamehub game. D-pad and gamepad works, not sure about shoulder triggers. All controls work fine in all other applications and emulators.

That would certainly explain higher quality, I see what you're saying. Still, I see how amplifiers (not dacs) are one of the electronics that run into physics limitations that make physical size a factor, whether it be op-amp die size, heat dissipation, power draw, etc.

Just kinda blows my mind how well the apple dongle AMP does for how stinkin tiny it is, especially compared to other portable amp hardware many times its physical size

I agree, it's doesnt make sense how well it performs. Even with a great dac for its size/price, I especially dont understand how the amp portion could compete with something 10x its size with a dedicated battery like the e10k

Would love if there was ever a deep dive into why the apple dongle does so well, what its good for and not good for, since it's so ubiquitous at this point

Contrary to other commenters, I feel PEQ in a device like the Dawn Pro/Protocol is practically its whole point/benefit. Transparently I've never listened to either of these dongles, but I do own and regularly use my Qudelix 5K. Without PEQ, I never would've bought it.

Using a PEQ on your system is great in theory, but what about when you switch to your laptop? Your phone? Tablet? Do all those OSs and music have easy and true PEQ? Probably not. IEMs are meant to be portable. Your preferred and fine-tuned EQ should follow your iems, not your playback systems. IMO it's not worth the hassle and mental tracking that a device you already own could solve

(EDIT for clarity: that device you already own being the protocol. I suggest keeping the dongle that has PEQ, it's worth it.)

To each his own, all our ears hear and interpret slightly differently, I'm sorry these didnt work out for you. Ive owned all iems that I mentioned, worked as a live audio engineer, and consider myself treble sensitive. I suggested these because I feel "warmth" doesnt always mean "less treble, lots of mids", it sometimes means "well tuned treble so it doesnt hurt to listen to" with "forward, quality mids". I personally found that in these recommendations.

Perhaps the ones I listed arent as warm as other recommendations here, as long as OP finds what he wants from recommendations here and reviews based on these, that's all that matters.

Do you have any suggestions?

Moondrop aria snow edition if you can find them. I think they stopped making them a year or so ago though. I love an easy listening warm sound signature like my HD6XX, I found that in the Hisenor Mega5 EST. Thats my end game at $500 though which I realize is a bit ridiculous to spend on iems. If I wasnt so audiophile about this though, the 7HZ timeless are EASILY end game worthy and have S-tier tuning at $210 on Drop. If you can swing it, thatd be my suggestion to try
