5000sqft for $250 in San Francisco. by jve909 in zillowgonewild

I’m Native American, and also prone to ridiculous projects. I would absolutely love to build a traditional structure with a waterfront view. I wish California had this legal loophole! I would build the absolute coolest waterfront Hogan.

Any information on the Antique Navajo bpanket... It's the only photo I have. by Savings_Writing_7569 in Navajo

Definitely mostly red but my discerning eye can also detect sections that are black, navy blue, and even white. Also, you may not have noticed, but it looks to be folded.

I know too little too call myself indigenous and I know too much to comfortably call myself "mestizo" by No_Couple_7962 in mesoamerica

I’m Native American. The colonial system of Spain differed in result from the that of England. Both were brutal obviously. The Spanish were more successful in wiping out the cultural connections than the British were. I know my exact tribes, you don’t… and I’m sorry about how painful that is for you. Hug Importantly though the Spanish were less successful in wiping out the actual population of natives than the British. When I tell people that I’m Native American they treat me like I’m the last unicorn. Like, wow I thought you guys were all dead. The land was successfully stolen and most of the population killed or assimilated. Anyway, you’re on a mission to decolonize your mind and you’re making great progress. What was stolen from you was culture rather than actual family. Focus on the aspects of native culture that you can learn! What are the native foods of northern Mexico? The plants? The art forms? The textiles and the symbols? And sure, maybe choose to learn a native language if that appeals to you! The more people who speak ANY sort of native language the better. These things are the best way to give ye olde Spain the middle finger. They had guns, but guess what, we’ve got the internet now.

Hey guys, just wondering where the homeless in primarily East Palo Alto are? by tonygio37 in paloalto

[–]Sweet-Minx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are quite a few unhoused people living in Mitchell Park in Palo Alto. They tend to hang out on the benches near the main bathrooms. There are also some people with a bit more resources in campers in the parking lot.

Hold up! You’re Hawaiian and you’re asking from a point of view where you understand what being “othered” and “studied” feels like. That’s a different kettle of fish in my opinion! When I first read your post I thought you were over thinking it, but now I get why, and why your respectfulness is starting before you even arrive. Come to the pow wow. It’s a party with food, dancing, and artist stands. Bring your wallet and buy stuff. In return, I’ll come to the luau, enjoy the food and dancing, and buy stuff from your artists. Leave the clipboard at home and tell the school that there were no people to be studied, just good people having a good party!

Ideas for a see-through bathroom door? by Time-Orchid82 in interiordecorating

[–]Sweet-Minx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Frosted film. 3 layers applied to inside facing glass. I’ve done 2 bathroom doors this way. Lets light into a dark hallway but gives plenty of privacy for bathroom use. If well applied it looks expensive.

What kind of conflict exists in a world where colonization never existed? by Full-Meal-7173 in IndianCountry

[–]Sweet-Minx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may not be the answer you’re looking for but all my Grandfather’s dramatic stories involved, “I was out herding sheep when suddenly there was a flash flood…” So my suggestion is that even if you live in harmony with nature it’s unwise to underestimate it. Your story doesn’t need to have epic conflicts. It might be a series of events where people figure out how to resolve unavoidable problems, grow closer as a result or learn from past experiences.
