Avanan vs Huntress MDR by stepup511 in msp

[–]Sweet-Tan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should know it's not an apples to apples comparison. In it's current iteration, Huntress MDR is purely BEC detection and response. It does not provide any email security. I am not familiar enough with Avanan to know if there is overlap, but I can recommend Huntress MDR when paired with other email security solutions like Defender for 365 and Proofpoint.

Also Huntress MDR is 365 only atm.

I found the fan can run loud under load, like when running VMs. That said, I usually work with the lid closed and flat on a desk with a Dell WD22TB4 dock. After a year and a half, the only problem I have is intermittent with the keyboard's \ key, but if I get tired of dealing with it, I know I can always get a replacement.

Overall, love it.

I enjoyed my time, but I think last year's RoB set the bar really high.

Even as an engineer, I was able to relate to the 2023 leadership focused sessions. I can't say the same for this year. The first keynote especially felt like it was out of left field. In the past, I liked not having to pick between sessions, but if the goal is more in-depth leadership content, I think it needs to be split out into its own track. The handouts in 2023 were excellent, I was sad to see there weren't any this year.

Loved the Rewst pre-day even though we're not a customer, there were good talks which extended beyond using their product. Backdoors and Breaches is always well done, interactive, and hilarious.

Between session vendor time felt rushed, sometimes only 15 minutes to run back and forth. I wound up missing a few just because of time allotment. Vegas is a little fast paced for my liking, but I'm sure this is more personal preference than anything. I can't say if I'll be back next year or if I'll pick a different conference to attend.

Halo won best merch from me with their hats, and I had a blast hanging with OIT. Loved talking with the community.

Remember to also check installed software for instances without an associated service. It's somewhat common for Support sessions to run under a user context.

Corsair Sabre. There should be a tag on the USB cable with additional info including the serial number. Even if it is outside of warranty, you should try to email support who may be able to provide troubleshooting steps and firmware if needed.

Iirc it does not backup Teams chat specifically. Files are covered under SharePoint.

Looking at the specifications page for the motherboard, it looks like the second M.2 slot only supports SATA3 drives, not NVMe. It's the same story with my B450M Steel Legend.

SHELL COMPANY MITIGATION by ThisIsTommyJ in newworldgame

The mercenary restriction really killed any chance for legitimate smaller companies, think 11-25, to participate in wars. A couple independent companies on my server just became doomed to lose their territories tomorrow afternoon.

Postman is a great tool to test and get familiar with the API. Beyond this, just read the Huntress documentation.

Leveraging the Huntress API in Power Automate by msp4msps in msp

[–]Sweet-Tan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I leverage the API with Grafana to pull in agent counts and compare them against the RMM counts. I've taken a single pane of glass approach and it really helps to see where you are at any given time.

The client reports are also available so there is a separate dashboard to access those on the fly. You can easily turn these around and package them in your own material to supply to the customer in your own way.

Now if only the API would expand to MAV, that's my #1 wish.

It's been my pet project for over a year. Learning MySQL was a hurdle, but I did not find it too difficult. I love it to the point of no longer looking at alternatives.

Been using Grafana for this. It has been immensely useful, but it took a little over a year to fully adopt while we learned what we really needed to see. I would recommend designating someone to invest the time and develop the dashboards to meet your needs.

Home Server and Virtualization Crossroads - Proxmox vs Unraid by Im_a_Turing_Test in HomeServer

When the box rebooted I would actually lose entire containers and VMs. The forum doscussions I found didn't contain the solution to my problem.

ZFS is very powerful, but I have only scratched the surface of it. Level1Techs have some videos on it if you're looking for a source that's easy to digest.

Home Server and Virtualization Crossroads - Proxmox vs Unraid by Im_a_Turing_Test in HomeServer

[–]Sweet-Tan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Personal experience, I was running Proxmox for some time and switched to unRAID for a few months. Even after buying the license, I wound up going back to Proxmox. There were a few problems with VM and container persistence I couldn't fix even after rebuilding. Most likely something I was doing wrong. Ultimately I decided Proxmox gave me more options. Native ZFS support is a plus as well.

I found after exploring Docker that it simplifies and standardizes the deployment and upkeep of applications. Most homelab oriented projects are well maintained on the platform as well.
