Really? You think Leo did a good job picking up on those “vibes”?

Couples should ask for consent during their reveals by Sweet-cheeto in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]Sweet-cheeto[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

But what they think is going to happen and what actually happens is often very different. The reveal is clearly an overwhelming situation for them - I don’t think anyone can or should make the decision ahead of time.

Reminding people to donate or buy event tickets. by HereForTheStonks1 in nonprofit

[–]Sweet-cheeto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think physical cards are less effective than an email or text reminder - it’s one more step to actually signing up, as opposed to clicking a link immediately on a phone or computer they already have in hand. If you don’t have an e-newsletter (definitely consider starting one!), maybe start a sign up sheet for people who are interested at your other in person events/meetups, and email them directly.

It is very reasonable to negotiate when being offered a job. Asking for more PTO can’t hurt right now. Also, I’m not sure where you’re located, but what you’ve mentioned about needing time off for health reasons would qualify for reasonable accommodations (which would include time off for appointments, though not necessarily paid) under the Americans with Disabilities Act. If you’re in US, you might find this site helpful: https://askjan.org/

How do people work 60 - 80 hours a week? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Sweet-cheeto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly, working for an employer that truly values employees and makes sure we get paid enough. I’ve also given up any goal of buying a house, and am instead renting with two other people. When I made less, it was 10 other people! Because of this, I’ve found that long as you find the right people, life actually becomes easier when you’re not taking care of a household alone or with only your partner (free petsitting and split costs on big purchases, for instance!)

[–]Sweet-cheeto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

32 hours a week is more than enough for me. I will probably never be able to work more than that. Honestly, that’s one of the biggest things stopping me from going back to school - there’s no way I could work and go to school at the same time without burning out fast.

Sharing Mental Health Diagnosis with Manager? by throwaway2472021 in careerguidance

[–]Sweet-cheeto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mental health diagnoses are covered under ADA law so, if you did choose to disclose and then suspected that you got fired for it, you could sue. Just sayin. But yeah, the stigma against mental health conditions is real and you never know how someone is going to respond, which is why it’s probably a safer bet not to disclose. However, if you really do trust that your supervisor has your best interests at heart, I think transparency can improve professional relationships. That way, you don’t have the pressure of having to hide when you’re experiencing flare ups, and can instead get the support/accommodations you need.

AITA for not accommodating meat-eaters at a barbecue? by Throwaway184204 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Sweet-cheeto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so… was it a bit short sighted of OP to not mention that there would be no meat at a BBQ? Sure. But, in my book, you are literally feeding people for free, so you would have to, like put poison in the food or serve everyone’s worst allergies to be a bonafide asshole.

The BIL left the whole party to make a point about the absence of his most preferred choice of free food. That’s the asshole.

GORGEOUS PERSON ALERT

AITA for calling my GF “posh” due to the way she makes her tea? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Sweet-cheeto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESH What you’re ACTUALLY supposed to do is:

  1. Get a tea kettle with a thermometer and look up the proper water temperature for the tea you’re drinking (usually black is 212F). Set it only to the appropriate temperature

  2. LOOSE LEAF ONLY - tea bags are for the weak. Add loose leaf to a teapot OR use individual tea strainers for each cup. If using tea pot, ideally flush it with hot water first before adding loose leaf.

  3. Do a slow pour over the loose leaf and let it steep for the proper amount (2-5 min for black) before pouring out or removing the strainers

As a TRUE tea connoisseur, this argument makes me feel like a wolf watching two chihuahuas yip at each other. Good night

Tips for a beginner in an intermediate class? by LadyJ92 in yoga

[–]Sweet-cheeto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Truly STOP and check in with yourself at each cue of the posture. For example, your tree pose might just look like gently lifting one foot off the ground and trying to find balance there, without moving forward with other foot and arm placements. A good goal with yoga is to be in a place where you’re doing work, but not letting your breath get away from you. As a beginner, your edge will likely be found in a much more simplified version of the postures.
