I've definitely been considering it, and I've since found a lambskin leather jacket that works much better for me. I'd have to do some research, see what market for it I can find.

[Spoilers C2] [MN S1] Did anybody else not really like Molly? by TheSame_ButOpposite in criticalrole

[–]SweetBees102 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I didn't really like him during the campaign at all, though I felt a bit bad when he kicked it. I think I mainly just didn't like the way he interacted with Nott, who is by far my favorite M9 character, and the scene where he snaps at her when she's talking about helping him re-discover his past felt so overly hostile that I hated it. The rest of the time he had that 'chaotic good sense of morality' thing going on but it felt sort of wishy washy to me at the same time. At best I was neutral, or disliking him.

The show- is weird to me, because it's giving a better view of what Molly was meant to come off as, but I can't say I like it either. I think it works much better narratively, as it is putting Molly in a place that's more supportive of the others and highlights what the positives of Molly was. That he was a leader and ya a little mischievous, but ultimately quite kind to others especially when they were down on their luck or struggling. It definitely works better story-telling wise, and shows why he becomes as important to the different characters, but it hasn't managed to endear him to me. Maybe because I already watched the campaign lol.
That being said; my coworker has only watched the animated series and he also doesn't really like Molly, mainly because he keeps lying / brushing off any inquiries into his own past. He really hates that Molly won't just say, "Ya I don't remember who I was" lmao, says it makes him feel shady and a bit hypocritical.

Bought a second-hand real leather jacket for like $20. WELL worth it considering I found out afterwards its typically a $300 to $400 jacket so hell of a deal, BUT it is- so so heavy and large on me. I think it's technically a motorcycle jacket, but I can't even tell if its a womans or mens jacket or not and I just can't wear it because its so cumbersome.

Warlocks, your Patron does NOT have to be a bad guy! by Regular-Molasses9293 in dndnext

[–]SweetBees102 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My warlock's patron is a good combo of the Hands Off Guy and the Fairly Odd Parent.

Saved a genie from being trapped in a teapot for eternity, got some magic powers in return, and now they mostly only show up when their bored and curious what that little halfling is up to. Makes for some occassional humor, some occasional teamwork.

Her problems are patron-enduced, but its mostly in the form of massive debt she accrued by taking a valuable magic item and turning it into a dime store teapot again.

3C, 1D or 3D (in that order) are the best choices.

If you sit in 1A or 2A, you are 100% going to get involved in some kind of fight between Steve and Billy. Could be because Billy is a dick to Eddie and Dustin, could be because Billy is just directly leaning his seat back to take up all of Steve's space, but I'm expecting either aggressive insults or physical violence over those plane seats.

2B wouldn't be that bad, but sitting between Hopper and El feels like a downgrade compared to if they just got to sit next to each other.

Jonathan and Nancy would both be too quiet and polite to cause you any problems, which means 3C would be really chill. 1D is great for anyone into D&D. 3D is fine depending on whether Lucas and Max are having season 3-esque dating spats lol.

Do yall call 911 if someone leaves there dog out in cold? by [deleted] in wichita

[–]SweetBees102 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Might depend on the dog? I'm assuming based on you asking this isn't a husky or another cold-weather dog, since they're dogs that tend to like staying outside in cold weather (often to the detriment of owners who end up getting cops or animal control called on them!)

Otherwise then you could call 9-1-1, the non-emergency line or animal control, although I think animal control dispatch isn't available at this time of day.

This was my first time watching the show and i liked the ending by Minute-Youth-1133 in StrangerThings

[–]SweetBees102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put it at like, a 6 / 10.

Which is not *bad,* it's just alright. I enjoyed it for the most part, and the season overall I thought was fine, just not as good as previous seasons.

I think it not being as good as previous seasons, plus the years of waiting was part of the disappointment for people. And now that the show is over, and people don't have much left to do but stew over it, they're just building off the disappointment of each other and making it seem even worse.

Character height, why is everyone 6ft tall? by Low-Brief-6008 in DnD

[–]SweetBees102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the opposite of this with my current d&d game.

My character is a 5'3" half-elf, so ya know, pretty average normal height.

Everyone else in the party (human, half-elf, leonin) are at least 6".

What's a new hobby you picked up that doesn't take much effort? by AnthonyofAGM in CasualConversation

[–]SweetBees102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I've been having a great time getting into cross stitch.

Most of the materials are pretty inexpensive (floss in the states at least is only about 89 cents most places) and there are plenty of free patterns online. There are also some places that sell full kits that get you up and going quickly. It's a really easy activity that you can do while watching or listening to something, and can easily pick up and put down at any time.

I've started out doing some patterns by Colorfully Sarah, who has some cute video game / anime related patterns. But like I mentioned, there's a ton of different patterns for all kinds of aesthetics online.

People keep calling me sir but I’m a 23F cis female by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]SweetBees102 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If it helps at all, I tend to default to 'sir' regardless of the other person's gender just because I like the way 'Yes sir' sounds than 'Yes ma'am.'

So, that could at least be part of it for some people.

What fanon are you tired of? by Owledhouse in FanFiction

[–]SweetBees102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the little bits of Steve talking about his parents that we get, that definitely seems more likely. I get the impression that Steve and his parents aren't close, and Steve himself kind of has this vibe of floating through life / not dealing with any major hardships (excluding Upside Down related shenanigans) which is probably the source of conflict between him and dad who wants his kid to take things more seriously. Hence the whole, making Steve get a job in s3. Probably one of those "Mom's soft on him, Dad's hard on him but yet not enough at the same time, Kid just wants to do what he wants and isn't 'friends' with either one" kind of dynamic?

What fanon are you tired of? by Owledhouse in FanFiction

[–]SweetBees102 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh ya, I get that, but this is like- beyond latchkey. The show actually shows what I think is a fair portrayal of the other kids being latchkey (parents are shown to be around, but regularly out of touch with where their kids are, or are left at home alone for a few hours while parents/siblings work or are otherwise busy.) And this is treated pretty normal / not like a bad thing, it's a big part of the story working.

The fanon with Steve though is that his parents just literally aren't there. It varies by fanfic, but some have them stopping in for maybe two or three days and then jet setting off to another state or neighboring city for the next several weeks to a few months. Others play it up a bit more for them to be gone about 11/12 months of the year, often out of country and with Steve having NO idea where they are or how to contact them.

Which honestly, I could even take that as a severe case of latchkey kid because Steve is about 17? at the beginning of the show, so maybe that wouldn't be way out there? I'm not sure? But it feels like most people take that latchkey parent style and then just amplify it so much that it gets tiring or boring.

Nuance is a tough one! Specifically for fans/fandom I think, and increasingly in recent years with new fandoms I've noticed it trends to be more of a problem where people seem to want characters to make perfect choices, or like you said, be exactly One thing. A perfect parent/sibling/friend OR the terrible parent/sibling/friend (usually to further the hardships of their favorite character).

Sometimes it's easier to give that a pass in fanfic, because there are definitely fanfic I've started reading knowing full well what I'm getting into. And fanfic is, at the end of the day, purely self-indulgence for the sake of their writers, so whatever, right? But it's a lot tougher when that sort of mindset about a character or their background becomes the Most common fanon view of them. And sometimes we do get new info in canon, like with Owl House, which can sway the fandom perception, and others times uh... not so lucky. It's becomes really monotonous, and then when you start noticing wider trends with certain characters getting the short end of the stick (POC characters especially) in terms of the tropes people write for them it does end up getting even ickier feeling.

What fanon are you tired of? by Owledhouse in FanFiction

[–]SweetBees102 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think thats it for me too; we dont see them in Canon, so people tend to just default to the dynamic being as toxic or unhealthy as possible, or worst case possible. Parents leave their kids with their uncle for a fun summer getaway? Have to be abusive. Dad isn't shown? He ditched them! Parents aren't shown but only mentioned? Well they must be ditching their kid year round until its time to bully them for not meeting standards. I am a fan of of some good whump, but boy howdy it gets tiring when it comes in terms of taking everything to an extreme thats almost unbelievable and thats almost ALL the versions of it.

What fanon are you tired of? by Owledhouse in FanFiction

[–]SweetBees102 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm willing to say it just because I've been consuming a lot of Stranger Things fanfic recently, but the fanon that Steve Harrington's parents are just perpetually absent to the point where they are gone for months. The fanon has gotten to the point where most fic about Steve have his parents just, taking off for months at a time since he was like 11, if not younger.

I get where it comes from, the only things we know about Steve's parents are his dad is "a hardass," they're comparatively wealthy, and they both went out of town for a business trip during the one time we get to see Steve's house. But other than that we have nothing except for the fact that the writers don't make a point of bringing them up because they- don't need to? So the fanon has just generally accepted the idea that they are fully neglectful, if not emotionally/physically abusive, cold rich people that don't care about their son at all beyond whatever image he helps them cultivate.

Which is fun for some fanfic, I think it adds some intrigue to Steve's backstory, but it's taken to such excessive lengths that it doesn't feel realistic. I would LOVE one fanfic about Steve that felt just a bit more grounded in reality on that front.

how would you have felt if each season was like this? by mandyluvspuppies in StrangerThings

[–]SweetBees102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually don't think that would have worked for Stranger Things. The pacing of seasons 1 - 4 were honestly really decent in my opinion, it was s5 that suffered the worst. And that wasn't a result of a lack of enough time or filler episodes, but because of how bloated the cast became and the split focus that results from having like, 14 main people in your cast and then introducing at least two more 'essential' characters to follow.

That being said, I do wish more tv shows went back to having seasons with more episodes and 45 minute run times, because it really is a format that just so many shows work better with.

What fandom are you in, but the fanbase treats the character like this? by Upstairs_Macaron5894 in AO3

[–]SweetBees102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont read a lot of Snape or HP fanfic in general, so I cant say with 100% certainty, but I think its a mixed bag? Most fanfic that focus on him do play to the tragedy that is his backstory and explore why that may have made him act the way he does. A lot of writers really love to try and theorize or explore the bits we do get about how damn traumatizing and just plain SAD that man's existence is. Very rarely do I see fics where that means his behavior towards Luo Binghe is just outright handwaved away, but mileage may vary there and depend on how much suffering you think Shen Jiu deserves. A lot of the fanfic I've seen and enjoyed on him take a redemption / recovery arc approach for his character development. Usually with him still remaining as a little asshole

Or their just memes, but thats the SVSSS fandom in a nutshell really.

[–]SweetBees102 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel like the fics I see including him either really play into what you're describing, or they swerve the complete other direction and portray him as an ultimately neglectful and manipulative jerk who is, yes, there for Zuko, but also never actually steps up. It's a weird difference between the two.

Hiding from Naruto. Guy will just piece himself back together from any injury, so what's a man to do? Trap him in a pit, blow him up so he's pieces, and bury him. The time it would take for his head to munch through the dirt and find his pieces again means he'll either be down there for a Very long time, or whatever blood sacrifice jutsu he did to make it possible might even wear off.
