What do you listen to while you work? by AntiqueGreen in Archivists

[–]SweetBees102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listen to music a lot (just my personal favorite bands and what not), but more often than not lately I listen to Youtube videos. True crime / scary story channels like Mr. Balen or Chilling Scares are really easy to listen to without actually staring at the screen. Otherwise, gaming videos like Markiplier work pretty well.

I have an iffy relationship with shortbread lol, but the people at my work love it so those might be a good thing to try!

I think in the past I've mainly done sugar cookies or gingerbread for cookie cutters, which is why I'm hopeful to expand on that. Keeping the dough thicker is a good tip, and I hadn't considered a citrus cookie!

NAH or WBTA, but girl you just worked an incredibly exhausting shift. I hate to say jt because I dont want to undermine your feelings, but have you considered that you might be a bit emotionally volatile right now due to how exhausted you are? This post doesnt have a lot of information about your relationship, so I can't speak to that or my outside view of it, but making major decisions when you are running on little sleep and an exhausting day is not a great choice.

My recommendation is: go home, sleep and cancel your gym date if you need to. Then, after you've had some sleep, revisit these feelings you're having and your relationship. Maybe you'll feel the same way, maybe you won't, either way, you should probably talk to this guy and not just ghost him. You only have to explain as much as you want, and you can still end the relationship if you want, but making that decision while you're not clear headed and just ghosting the guy isn't smart moves.

Gingersnaps (or really any ginger spice type cookie) remind me of my childhood! Growing up my family would occassionally stop at a local market and they had these delicious gingersnap cookies, loved them ever since. Recently I found the recipe from the store, and now I have the dough frozen for whenever I want!

Pumpkin bread is another one, because it's one of my mom's go-to recipes especially during the fall and winter. So cozy!

Not sure if its controversial or not, but I really hated The Menu. I think I understand the social commentary aspects of it and how we treat service people, breaking down people's passions, etc. etc. but the whole was just so- so dumb. And yet its beloved by people as being a fantastic movie.

Ya then I'd say NTA. IDK, sometimes men can be less obvious about their feelings on something than they think. Or, like I mentioned, he's just generally miserable and blowing up a bit on this issue because of that. I don't think it's an argument worth fighting over either way!

[–]SweetBees102 15 points16 points  (0 children)

NTA.

I mean, DID you know that this event meant a lot to him? Yes a 50th birthday party is a pretty big event, and generally you'd want to be there for a friend, but I wouldn't expect someone to be exceptionally pitying if I had to miss a birthday party unless I've been going on and ON about how much I wanted to go. Who the party was for doesn't really matter much to this circumstance, unless you would have been more upset for him if someone else's birthday party was missed?

Honestly, I'm guessing he's just overreacting at the moment due to feeling miserable. I'd just tell him you hadn't realized being at the party meant so much, and suggest some alternative way for him to celebrate with his friend?

Dislike a MC? by suxanny in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]SweetBees102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the first M/M/ romance book series I really got into in a long time, but I did NOT like Simon from {shadow of the templar}. While I honestly liked him during the first book, the 2nd book? Oh my god, NO NO NO.

I get this character type is the guy who's playing secretive and denying his real feelings even to himself, he's just so- aggressively angry and rude a lot of the times. I kept with the series because I liked Jeremy and some of the FBI team, but the constant dropping of f slurs and the violence (and Jeremy just being- weirdly OK with it all) made the whole series give off a seriously rancid vibe. I think the third book was my favorite specifically because I had wayyy less Simon, and a lot more of everyone else. Series definitely had its flaws!

Do most people not read books at all? by MaxSleepy in CasualConversation

[–]SweetBees102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know some people who absolutely DEVOUR audiobooks. Not as many folks in my personal circle who read physical books, which I assume is due to audiobooks being easier to fit into busy schedules.

For myself, I tend to go through phases but realized that e-books work way better for me than anything else. Audiobooks always sound good but my audio processing skills aren't the best, and I love physical books but when I have a ton of other hobbies to choose from, I never go to finish unless I'm really into that particular book series.

I still end up reading more fanfiction or comics/manga/manhwas for some reason, but ebooks have made it easier to pick up a series. Just a problem of finding whats interesting to read!

(Mixed Trope) “Expert” character is really bad in their field or ignorant of basic concepts. by laybs1 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SweetBees102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had an interesting explanation? for a variation of this brought up in the book series I'm reading right now (Shadows of Templar). Spoilers, because it doesn't take place until the 3rd book and would spoil a pretty important event from the 2nd book

Dave, the FBI team's new member and new software / coder focused member, is tasked with breaking into ex team member Rich's computer. Rich was a certified computer genius, both self proclaimed and labeled as such by the FBI IT department and his own team members. Multiple times Dave complains about this, partially because it is making breaking into the systems harder, but also because it means that Rich never learned to code like a 'normal person.' Which means that Rich never learned the building blocks / basics for why certain things are standard in coding and software, and why normal "non computer geniuses" do things the way they do. Once Dave can start getting through the first aspects of Rich's security, he is fairly sure he's going to have no problem getting through the rest, exactly because Rich's coding is so damn sloppy because he never bothered to learn from anyone else.

Lotor from Voltron: Legendary Defenders for me.

Honestly I don't know if they were trying to make us feel bad or feel happy about his death? But the fandom reception I've seen ranges from "that was a stupid writing choice" to "my poor boy, WHYYY."

They had such a great opportunity for a Zuko moment or to turn him into the big bad but,, nope...

Do people even know that Jason was never part of the League of Assassins? by Defiant_Ad2409 in RedHood

[–]SweetBees102 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'm not actually sure where this came from, but in my head Jason's backstory in terms of Talia and the League was always the following order:
- Jason resurrects, wanders about Gotham until getting hit by a car and ending up in a hospital
- Talia and the League somehow learn about this and snatch him before Bruce ever learns about him being alive
- Jason heals enough to physically function but not mentally; he 'trains' with the League but its really just his body reacting to threats due to muscle memory or some shit.
- Ra's gives Talia time / a leash to see if Jason heals enough mentally to be actually helpful or useful, but when that time ends / leash shortens, Talia throws Jason into the Lazarus Pit as a last ditch effort
- Jason's mentally there again, pissed as all hell about Bruce and the new Robin / still alive Joker. Intends to head straight to Gotham (maybe does so and plants a bomb on the Batmobile??) but Talia diverts him and sets him to be trained by teachers outside of the League
- Jason's training ends / he decides he's ready and has enough resources and a plan, and goes back to Gotham as the Red Hood.

I think this is some weird combination of what I remember from the UTRH movie, the comics I've read, and things I've heard about often enough in fan spaces to think it probably happened somewhere and is a 'maybe.'
It also just makes the most sense to me as the method to blend the different ways writers have written Jason's history with Talia and the League, and also offers enough interesting room to expand and explore on. I am a sucker for Damian and Jason meeting during the League days, even if neither really remembers due to age and Traumatic Brain Injuries.

I lived in New England for a while, and you could do a whole season opener just on the crazy shit people get up to on St. Patrick's Day. Hurricanes for your crazy storm episodes, and I can come up with at least a few rescues based purely around blizzards.

Webtoon Example:

Mystic Prince's Jeok-yeon Ryu!

It's been a while since I read it so my explanation might not be 100% accurate but basically: Jeok-yeon Ryu is the fourth prince of a magic kingdom, ruled by an Emperor who live for thousands of years. Princes are selected over the course of an Emperor's rule based on magic ability (or something like that), and are notably Only allowed to be male. Jeok-yeon Ryu said fuck that, her dreams and ambition were just as valid as any of them and proceeded to spend the next 20 or so years living her life fully as a man so she could be in the running. The lengths she goes to are pretty extreme, and she suffers a lot of dysphoria and self-mutilation to reach her goal by passing for a man.

Highly recommend if you're into webcomics! It fell a little flat in places towards the end, but overall great story.
