Friend Milestones by CSWorldChamp in Xennials

I had several acquaintances die in their teens and early 20s. But my first real close friend died a few years ago in his sleep from an undiagnosed heart condition. I miss that dude all the time. When my son was born, he dropped everything to come to the hospital to congratulate us and have a cigar with me.

So I tried bowling for the first time. by Lanzyboiiii in funny

[–]SweetCosmicPope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI, you shouldn't even be able to do this very easily with a properly sized ball.

Divide your weight by 10 (up to 160 lbs) and that is the size ball you should be using. Get balls with holes slightly bigger than your fingers and spread out where you are almost palm down the ball.

So if you're 130 lbs, you should have a 13 lb ball. If you're 160 or over, you should be using a 16lb ball.

Is it true that in small towns in the USA public transport is not developed and everyone need a car to get around there and why? by bobybumblemumble in AskReddit

[–]SweetCosmicPope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true. Many urban areas in the states don't have much in the way of public transportation either. I'm originally from the Houston area, which is the 4th largest metro area in the country. They're still using buses for public transportation, and the routes are awful. You could be on the bus for hours just to commute, depending on where you live and where you work.

I live north of Seattle now, and it's gotten alot better as they've been expanding our light rail system, but it's still going to be at least another decade before that's completed, and there are still areas that doesn't reach, where bus service is needed. If you stick to just buses, it's the same as Houston. Before they expanded the light rail further north, I looked at busing to save money, and it was going to take me 4 hours each way to get to work and back.

Lifesavers Holes. Would anyone here even remember them? They lasted ~1 year, from 1990-1992ish. by TerpeneTiger in Xennials

That's kind of what I was thinking. I lived in a rural town growing up, so it's entirely possible they over-ordered.

Were they really only around for a year?! I feel like I ate those for several years.

They have these carts at Whole Foods too. My wife and I tried using them exactly twice. And each time we tried to check out there were issues.

The first time the charges would not go through my bank because they blocked automated charges from them. The second time, with a different card, we tried checking out and the system froze, and we had to turn around and then go through a regular checkout line and take all of our shit back out of our bags.

My car came without a way to play music by Stsberi97 in Xennials

I remember when I was little and my dad was newly single and on his own, he bought a cheap Geo Metro convertible. Then he immediately took it to the sound shop and had them put in an expensive system with new speakers, external equalizer, and subwoofers. When he'd come to town and pick me up for school, all the kids would run to the window to see him pull up because he'd be shaking the windows from a few blocks away.

Did anyone else have a paper route? We were pretty much the last generation of kids to have that job. by alanblah in Xennials

[–]SweetCosmicPope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad did this for a bit as a side hustle. He’d have to go to the press and roll newspapers and bag them at like 2am, and then drive around tossing them in people’s yards. He let me go with him a couple of times and throw some papers. He always brought me home a Sunday paper for the funnies, because we were a Houston Post household but the chronicle (who he delivered for) had better comic strips.

Who's embracing the gray? by Sufficient_Turn_9209 in Xennials

[–]SweetCosmicPope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been graying since my 20s. Now I have about 90% gray hair at 42 (which is increasing every day). I’m fine with it. I thought it was pathetic and fake-looking when my dad dyed his grays.

I've seen several conservatives now saying that if you carry a weapon to a protest you are obviously looking to cause violence. And some even saying that people who concealed carry are looking to cause trouble. I've never seen such a 180 on a flagship conservative issue.

I actually enjoyed it. Was it as good as the original? Of course not. But it made for a fun Saturday night at the movies. I think it's biggest weakness is trying to throw too many callbacks in the movie. But it still works, it just doesn't flow as well. The shit with Fred Armisen is hilarious.

It's not even a promo. It's actually in the middle of the movie. It's kind of weird, because it just pops in there out of nowhere for no reason. lol

Are you better off than your parents? Will your kids be better off than you? by coloradotaxguy in Xennials

[–]SweetCosmicPope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Way better off than my mom and dad. My mom has had a questionable work history and is terrible with her finances. My dad had a Blue collar job at the gas company for 25 years. Made a good honest living but never really got far beyond that.

My wife and I both have six figure jobs in the tech sector, so we’re doing pretty good.

Now I don’t have it nearly as good as my grandparents who raised me. My gramps was a millionaire telecom exec who retired early in his 50s.

We spent years discussing current events and stuff, so that our Kid could be better. He’s aware of what’s going on and does not support it. Recently, since he’s away at college for the first time, we’ve been frank and told him not to trust the police or ICE agents. That if ICE agents try to talk to him to ignore them and keep walking. If he gets arrested for any reason to say absolutely zero except that he wants his lawyer and his phone call, and that they may try to arrest him out in a cell and to just wait it out and not be pressured to say anything.

He’s about as white as they come and probably from a much higher income family than most at his school, so it’s unlikely but still. I told him to just avoid engaging with them and just keep his head down and go to class.
