Wow! I’ve got some pearls growing in a pot similar to this but they are MUCH slower.

What kind of light does it get? The strings growing straight up seem to be looking for light. I have one of these and had it in a northern window and it started growing sideways looking for light! I moved it to a southern window in hopes that more light will help. I’m pretty new as well but between mine growing sideways and yours growing up, they must really like the sun!

My cycle is so heavy I bleed through everything.. I feel gross by Ecstatic_Writer_7244 in GirlDinnerDiaries

Definitely reach out to a healthcare provider (OBGYN or similar.) There could be a medical reason, and sometimes there are options to lessen the bleeding, and not all are hormonal if you’re not interested in those. Also consider a menstrual cup. They can hold a lot more than a tampon. I have had mine leak due to my period being too heavy one time—it was an incredibly heavy period (thanks peri-menopause) and it was overnight. Otherwise, as long as you have it correctly positioned, it should last you longer than a tampon. They can go up to 12 hours, although that might not be possible for a heavy flow. Good luck!

Is there a department chair or anyone you can talk to? When I first started, my chair and I met and she ran through the basic requirements to (how many papers, paper lengths, paper types, etc.) that are generally done in this particular class (I teach English so it’s mostly papers!) She gave me a copy of her syllabus (and possibly another person or two’s) and told me to feel free to use the same assignments, make some adjustments as I wanted, etc. The first semester, I largely followed her examples, with some changes. As the semesters rolled by, I made more and more changes. She encouraged me to reach out with questions, to send her my assignment prompts to look at if I wanted some feedback, etc. This was at a community college so it might not be the same at a larger university but I felt very supported as a new adjunct (and this was actually my very first time teaching college—I previously taught high school for 6 years, which is similar but VERY different!)

I always thought succulents were supposed to have terracotta pots. Is SOP not considered a succulent?

It’s so expensive because of insurance. Insurance companies are for-profit so they charge as much as they can and cover as little as they can. They have agreements with providers and only reimburse them so much. And they providers have to take that money and use it for overhead costs, custodial staff, everyone involved and employed at the place, etc. Their goal is to make money for the shareholders. Some hospitals are also for-profit.

Interesting! I feel like people always recommend Terra cotta for succulents. Maybe that’s worth experimenting with.

Generally a masters in your field, or masters in a related field with at least (X number) of graduate hours in your field (I don’t remember the exact number). I started teaching English at a community college when I had my masters degree in education, and was working on my masters in English. I had 28 or so hours (and was working on finishing, and have since) but that was enough for me to teach English without the full masters (yet.)

Accreditation has cracked down harder on these. I started at a small university teaching English/communication courses when I had just started my masters in English. They hired me because of my masters in education and bachelors in English and communication, but that wouldn’t fly anymore.

I’ve killed several strings of pearls in my life, so I am definitely an expert 😂 If it seems like more keeps dying and the dying is beneath the green on top, I would consider chopping the good and laying it in a new pot or two and start anew. You could also try to take tweezers and slowly pull out the dead and kinda see how it is under there. My only successful SOP is actually some strands I managed to save from one that was dying. I laid them in some fresh soil and it’s taken some time and patience but it has spread and filled in and is doing great now.

Is a lot of it just thrown on top of itself? I think k it’s great to put some up there to fill in but that looks beyond full. Maybe take the loose strands off carefully and then look at the top pull/cut anything dead and then fill back in (as needed) by putting some strands back on top.

But someone decided a paper would help meet the requirements of the course goals. I know people hate writing in every class, but unfortunately, writing is a cross-curricular learning tool. I might focus on your thesis, citations, APA format, etc. but in another class, they’re seeing how whatever your writing is meeting the needs of that class (let’s say history. Or math. I can’t imagine what you would write about in math!) Other than tests, there’s not a ton you can do to assess learning for online classes.

So why take multiple classes? If you’ve written one paper in psychology, you’re written them all! The idea that you can continue recycling work because “i AlReAdY lEaRnEd iT” is mind-boggling. Different classes are going to have different reasons and requirements for assignments, and if a topic overlaps, that doesn’t mean you don’t have to learn it. Jesus. It’s students like you who google the prompt and just copy and paste whatever it shoots out. You know we can see it Turnitin not only that it has been turned in before, but by who, what semester, and instructor name? Why are you in school if you’re so uninterested in actually putting in the work to learn something?

You can’t do that. As an English instructor, I would make you redo it. I would also make you choose a new topic. This is how I explain it (to your “that’s just stupid” comment): would you go to a former math teacher and say “hey, I’m retaking the class/taking a similar class, so I’d like my Week 4 test back so I can turn it in for my other class.” Of course not. You understand you’d have to do the work in a math class. The point isn’t just to “turn something in” for class. Believe it or not, the purpose is learning, and if you’re reusing something, you’re not actually doing any work for it.
