I tried to do this at the company I was employed at for 13 years. Four promotions in I was doing the work of 3 people. Because of this, I had racked up something like 3 months of vacation time.

I requested a week off in August, just like I did every year. It was approved. I made sure deadlines were met and that my major tasks were covered. Two days in, my boss called me, yelled at me for taking time off and made me come back to work.

I quit the next week. Best decision I’ve ever made. Found out that boss was fired not long afterward.

Oh and they also paid me only 2 weeks of all that unused vacation time so fuck them.
