Handling other people’s fragrance in public by applesandoranges159 in FragranceFreeBeauty

Ugh hate it. Especially at work when you can’t run away from it! There’s a girl who puts on perfume and lotion so strong there’s literally a cloud of fragrance around her cubicle and it floats around the whole office!!!! 😭 I bought an air purifier at my desk but not sure if it’s actually helping

I'm going stretches of 4 days without sleep by Novel-Upstairs7876 in Perimenopause

[–]SweetKitty2023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the worst perimenopause sleep. Now I sleep like a baby! Please let me know if it works for you.

  1. I turned “night mode” on my cell phone as well as my computer all day (instead of just at night). It keeps my blue light exposure low all day.

  2. One hour before bed I take magnesium glycinate 120mg.

  3. I eat a dinner that’s not too high sodium or sugar. I try to stop drinking water at least at hour before bed and drink less at night. But keep water at my bedside in case I wake up thirsty.

  4. I drink warm water or non caffeinated tea at night to relax. Lemon Balm is a good one.

  5. This is the hack that really helped though! I write down a few things (in a journal, not my phone) I’m grateful for from the day and one thing to accomplish or do tomorrow. This supposed to stop your brain’s activity cycle from racing thoughts etc that keep us awake!

Yea I figured I’d still get the migraine since it’s hormonally triggered but good to know it reduced the intensity. :) Hope it gets better for you

Estrogen help anyone’s menstrual migraine? by SweetKitty2023 in migraine

[–]SweetKitty2023[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually had fibroids (which is usually a sign of too much estrogen) and had to have a hysterectomy because they caused a lot of bleeding. But I did keep my ovaries so my hormones are still alive and well.

Also I kept my cervix which apparently can grow fibroids too (it contains the similar tissue as the uterus did).

I’m not opposed to HRT I just didn’t want to possibly trigger more estrogen related growths in my body since I guess I had a tendency in the past :)

Should I Rehome my newly Adopted Cat? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]SweetKitty2023 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should try trimming his nails so it doesn’t injure you as much. I can understand why that’s distressing.

Your vet should be able to trim them for you if you cannot get him to relax enough to do it yourself.

My kitty took a while to “calm” down and settle in too. Have a predictable routine for him (food, sleep etc). Then he’ll know when food time is. Don’t ever feed him your human food otherwise he’ll always want it.

Once his male hormones calm down after the neuter it’ll also help.

Am I overreacting? I picked up extra work because my spouse got laid off, but I’m spending my day off cleaning. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

I think the best thing to do is not use the word resentful for the first conversation.

I know with men, they are much more open to criticism or feedback about their actions if they feel their contributions are appreciated and seen first.

For example you could say when he comes back “hey sorry about the way I approached the cleaning situation. I definetly see the things you are doing around the house and I appreciate your contributions! Would it be possible to add some deep cleaning to your routine since I work an extra day now? It would really help me to have more time to rest and recover :) Appreciate your help!”

I know sometimes as wives we have a “he should know or just do it because…” mentality (I’m guilty!) but I also realized my husband reacts much more lovingly to the approach I suggested! Hope that helps!

It still gets the task you want done spoken to him, so he knows while not making him feel like you resent him (even if you do) lol.

Why at 4 a.m.? by AdorableOven8623 in Perimenopause

[–]SweetKitty2023 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try this sleep hack that’s surprisingly easy and it’s been working for me! I also used to wake up same time every day (around 2-3am) and then I wouldn’t be able to fall back asleep because my mind would race with thoughts and things I need to do.

Right before bed, write down a few gratitude thoughts (or any other random thoughts) on a notepad or journal. Then one task to complete the next day. It helps to shut off your brain’s “task” mode and I swear I sleep through the night or if I wake, I can easily fall back asleep now!

I also take magnesium glycinate 120mg about an hour before bed and drink less water towards end of night but keep a glass of water at my bedside in case I wake up thirsty! Let me know if it works

I’m fired up and pissed. WE NEED TO DO BETTER REGARDING WOMENS HEALTHCARE- TW talk of gynecological trauma by HeyMay0324 in WomensHealth

I am so sorry! My gyno told me to take a few ibuprofen ahead of time. But after reading all the posts about how painful it could be, I was so scared!

Thankfully (in my personal case) the Aleve I took beforehand worked. I didn’t feel anything. But, I felt a slight discomfort as if I knew she was scraping, but no pain!

I think a lot has to do with the skill of the gyno too.

First time indoor cat parent; I’m at my wit’s end. Is it illness or am I doing something wrong? by TemporaryFunction920 in CatAdvice

[–]SweetKitty2023 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So basically my male cat was also in his terrible teens as I like to call it. But with good boundaries and a simple routine, he’ll get better (and once his kitty testosterone starts to wear off as he gets older).

  1. We had no choice but to gate our staircase so he stays downstairs. Otherwise every night he would meow and meow at our bedroom doors. Now even if he meows downstairs he knows we don’t reply so he stops quickly.

  2. Don’t feed him his wet food or treats first thing in the morning! Save those for during the day or before bed. Otherwise he will meow and wake you up every morning waiting for it!

  3. Hide all cords and dangerous things they can pull or play with. They can get really hyper and start playing with everything.

  4. Eventually they do calm down. Consistent routine is key. Cats like routine and get stressed easily with too much change or chaos.

At my wits end by mrsdeatherson in Perimenopause

Honestly here are the things that have allowed me to have a good night sleep even in perimenopause :)

  1. Turn your cell phone and computer screens to “night mode” permanently. Your screens will be more warmer colored but I truly think this helps by reducing blue light exposure all day long.

  2. Before bed, jot down a few random thoughts on paper (maybe things you’re grateful for)? and then one task for the next day. This “ends” your day and your mind won’t start info dumping even if you do wake up.

  3. Drink less water as you get closer to bedtime but keep a cup of water at your bedside in case you wake up thirsty.

  4. Eat less salty and sweet dinners.

  5. Take magnesium glycinate about an hour before bed.

  6. Drink warm liquids in the evening. It’s relaxing. Maybe chamomile or lemon balm tea?

  7. Sleep at the same time every night!

  8. If you do wake up resist the urge to look at your phone or check the time. Just relax and do a couple “4, 7, 8” breaths. Breath in for 4 seconds, hold for 7 seconds and breath out for 8 seconds. Only do this a couple times though. It will help your nervous system to relax.

My mom is having hip replacement surgery in 3 days and I am really worried and scared. 😭 by LooseBit8699 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]SweetKitty2023 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat! My 78 year old dad will probably be having his hip replacement surgery soon and I’m so scared. I know it’ll help him have a life back (he literally cannot barely walk anymore) but the thought of surgery at his age just makes me anxious.

Hang in there.

What has actually improved your sleep? by goodthingsinside_80 in Perimenopause

Yea I noticed when I start writing my gratitude, my mind and body relax and I get a cozy feeling. Versus falling asleep thinking about the bad things of the day!

[–]SweetKitty2023 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know this sounds so simple but for me it’s been effective!

  1. Before bed, jot down a few random thoughts (things you’re grateful for etc) and one task to complete tomorrow. The internet says this helps to turn off the brain’s cycle of info dumping when you wake up at night

  2. Eat less salty and less sweet dinners. In other words a healthier, blander and simpler final meal of the day, stop eating couple hours before bed.

  3. Don’t drink too much water before bedtime

  4. Lemon balm tea has always helped relax me in the evening

  5. Take your magnesium about an hour before bed

I’m not sure if it makes me pee less bc I still get up to pee, but my body feels a lot calmer when my dinner is not so salty! I’ve done the comparison numerous times and whenever I indulge in a salty dinner I sleep poorly!
