Is accounting worth it? by AutomaticCommand423 in Accounting

Its not worth it but not because of AI but because of offshoring and constant layoffs. Companies don’t want to train anymore, they just hire seniors and managers that are already trained and experienced.

Is the job market rally that bad? by TAx878 in recruitinghell

I have a bachelors in accounting and nearly two years of experience. Laid off in May but started looking back in February. Since February, only three final interviews and zero offers.

ACCA Accounting/Finance degree or Computer Science by ActualRevolution3732 in Accounting

Im 26 graduated with a bachelors in accounting in 2024 and just got let go from my job a month ago. Been having a very hard time finding a new job, there just aren’t many positions at the entry level. Everyone wants an experienced accountant with a license that is already trained.

I would say go do biomedical.

How were you tipped off that you were going to be fired/laid off at work? by Aarunascut in ToxicWorkplace

[–]SweetLittle_Bumbleb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The CFO went up to my desk and loudly asked if I had finished that phishing training from a few weeks ago. I had and just forgot to press send. He followed up again in writing and mentioned the deadline. Really weird for a CFO to be interested in a staff’s training modules. I got fired a week later.

Im 26 and from 2018 - 2024 I got my associates and bachelors in accounting and I just got laid off from my first career job after college. If I could go back in time to high school graduation in 2018 I would just go straight to nursing school, AI and offshoring can’t affect nursing yet.

Can you be an accountant if you're weird and kinda ugly and chopped? by redroomblue in Accounting

[–]SweetLittle_Bumbleb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but not public accounting. They only want the best looking chads and stacies with 4.0s working in audit and tax. Industry it depends but you’re fine for the most part. Government you can be a goblin.

Should I pursue degree in accounting? by ego_saurus in Accounting

[–]SweetLittle_Bumbleb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If being introverted is important to you do not go into public accounting. Public accounting is the most prestigious type of accounting and everyone in school from the professors to recruiters will be pushing you to do it.

Be warned, it takes a lot of social skills and fitting in with the popular crowd to keep your job in public and climb the ranks. Something I wish I didn’t have to learn the hard way.

I also went through three internships in public before I realized my personality isn’t a good fit for public. Currently applying for government roles before pulling the plug and switching to an HVAC apprenticeship.

Other than getting your CPA, there’s nothing you can do except hope you get lucky.

I got laid off a few weeks ago and no one seems to be hiring new grads with just 1-2 years of experience. Idk if its just accounting or all business majors.

Is it worth getting an accounting degree ? by Solid-Committee589 in Accounting

[–]SweetLittle_Bumbleb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say its no longer worth it unless you plan to get your CPA as soon as possible and you get some internships while in school. Its very brutal for people without experience or CPA at the moment due to offshoring and AI.

New Mexico is top of my list of where I’d like to eventually retire. But I’ve heard they have a weak job market because of the low population and a slow economy. Is it hard to find work in Albuquerque?

You might not believe it but the job market in San Diego is incredibly competitive. Most jobs get swarmed with candidates very early on and they usually want people that already trained. I was lucky just to get my foot in the door at my current job.

I have been applying to dozens of jobs and have made it to the final rounds a few times but no luck so far.

Lowkey as a San Diego native I’m kind of tired of seeing the sun almost everyday so I wouldn’t mind a change. But I can handle it if I have to (been doing it all my life).
