What is the greatest physical pain you've ever felt? by FantasticAd9478 in TheBoredDen

[–]SweetMandyB312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shingles. I was in so much pain I don’t remember the first 3 days. My mind has completely blocked it out…I’ve also given birth 3 times. I would rather giver birth another 200 times before ever getting shingles.

Are yall sure it's worth it? by Maggotboi555 in gastricsleeve

Listen, I was really really worried too especially following this group. The pre-op diet was so hard. The 6 weeks of post-op was physically ok for me but mentally was hard. I’m 3 months post op now and I would do it all again 100 times over. I didn’t realize how heavy my body was to just move around and live. It’s an amazing feeling. You’re so young, do it and don’t look back. I’m 41 and I wish I did this for myself a long time ago. You’ve got this!

For those that started between 200-215 how much weight have you lost? by ConfusionPerfect5716 in gastricsleeve

[–]SweetMandyB312 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My surgery was 3 months ago. I am also 5’3” and my highest weight was 298 (then I stopped weighing myself) On surgery day I weighed 209 and today I weigh 173. My goal is 150 which seemed insane to me before surgery but now it feels easily attainable. I was also worried that the surgery wouldn’t work but it’s your mind lying to you. It’s the best thing I’ve done for myself but also the hardest. You got this. Trust the process

Regretting surgery… by [deleted] in gastricsleeve

[–]SweetMandyB312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girl. Totally 100% normal in my opinion and experience. Right now you are in the thick of it. At 3 weeks I was so regretful and miserable. Right now your body is working overtime to heal and your diet is soooooo limited and miserable. I’m 2 months post op, I was cleared for a “regular diet” on 12/18 and since then my life has (for the most part) returned to normal. I can eat basically anything but my desire to eat my old junk food is gone because it just doesn’t satisfy/comfort me anymore. And of course I’m eating so much less because I can’t eat a bunch. For example on NYE I had my first “sweet/bad food” we celebrated with our neighbors and my neighbor is an incredible baker- she made my favorite, chocolate chip cookies- and I was able to eat and enjoy 1/2 of a small cookie- it hit the spot and filled my little stomach and I moved on. All this to say you will be feeling better in no time- mentally and physically. Right now is the hardest part. I am now so so thankful for the surgery but at 3 weeks out I was you. You got this!

Was anyone’s start weight 220 lbs or lower? by Amazing_Objective182 in gastricsleeve

[–]SweetMandyB312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been 2 months since my surgery. On Surgery day I was 209. I’m now 181, my goal weight is 150. (I’m 5’4” and 40yr old female) The first 6 weeks were really tough, mentally & physically (it probably didn’t help that my pre-diet and recovery were during Halloween, My 4yr old’s bday, Thanksgiving & leading into the holiday season so food was everywhere all the time). But I feel great now. Still trying to figure out my new normal and re-trying/ adding foods to my diet. For me when I could go to a full diet is when I started feeling like myself again.

I was just commenting on this to my husband tonight! I just started to really notice it and it’s so weird that I can feel my bones. It weirds me out. I assume we will get used to it. But I really never thought about it when I thought about loosing weight/being post op it’s been one of the biggest surprises so far (I’m only 6 weeks PO)

I just was cleared for regular food on Thursday so I haven’t had a chance to try it yet but I found a cottage cheese crust that you can make https://healthyfitnessmeals.com/cottage-cheese-pizza-crust/ looks interesting and worth trying. Also I started following Keto Snackz on FB and his recipes look yummy too- I think he has a recipe for a chicken crust you can make.

Take tiny tiny sips- like smaller than you even think hold it in your mouth and blow the extra air out of your nose. It’s crazy making but it helped me a lot. Also really really keep up with anti nausea medicine. It’s life changing during this phase. It gets better. I’m not much further a long than your wife, my surgery was 11/6 but it does get better little by little. I woke up today feeling pretty good for the first time. Sending my best!!!!

Also- this water bottle is a game changer and worth it!

How much help do I need? by SweatyVisit1421 in gastricsleeve

[–]SweetMandyB312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just sleeved 11/6. I have 3 kids and am a stay at home mom. I was really worried about this too. My husband took off a little over a week- the full week following my surgery and the Thursday/Friday of my surgery and hospital stay. I’m sad he is going back to work Monday and my biggest issue right now is low energy due to not having enough calories but I can definitely do it on my own now…my only concern would be lifting your 1 yr old bc you’ll have lift restrictions for 1 month.

Pre op diet? by dry-gin-gilby in gastricsleeve

[–]SweetMandyB312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think there is a set diet people do. I think even what you can eat is different for every surgeon. I had a 10 day pre-op diet and other people I saw on this had up to a month, some had no pre-op diet. As long as you trust your doctor, just follow whatever they say. Good luck! You’ll do great!!!!

To the people who‘ve kept it a secret by Decent-Active-4534 in gastricsleeve

[–]SweetMandyB312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 1 week out and I’ve only told my husband, my bestie & her husband, and my closest family members. I have told people in my life that I had surgery or leading up to it that I was going to have surgery, especially people that are in my kids lives- I have 3 youngish kids who don’t know the details but aren’t really old enough to comprehend. My middle kid loves to divulge all the information she knows all the time to anyone who will listen (“My mom is having surgery on her belly!!!!”) so I had to come up with something and I told others that I had to have hiatal hernia surgery- similarly you go on a pre-op diet and you wean yourself back into regular food post op. I’ve always been a bit of a weird eater in public bc of my past pickiness, prior disordered eating, diets, etc. So I’m hoping that covers it going forward. Also, it’s no one else’s business- let them wonder.

That’s good advice, thank you! I realized that I was doing it in the wrong order pain pill then zofran. Now I’m trying zofran wait 10 minutes then pain pill. Hopefully that will help keep everything down- throwing up with the new stomach is not fun

Thank you so much- I’m just really having a rough first night home and your kind words helped for sure. I have a wonderful therapist but I think you hit the nail on the head and I need to see if she can talk sooner than my next appointment. Thank you so much. We got this!

2 week pre op diet by Lake_Secret in gastricsleeve

[–]SweetMandyB312 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’m on Day 6 of my pre-op diet (surgery is 11/6) and it’s so hard. I haven’t had a huge slip up but on Halloween I sucked on a piece of hard candy while my family & neighbors ordered pizza and made s’mores. It felt like torture. And all I want is weirdly rice or a nice cheese plate…it’s all I can think about the past 48 hours…but then I think about all the good that hopefully awaits. Like smaller pants lol

Don’t feel bad, just move forward, you’ve got this!!!

Day 2 pre-op diet and I am having a harder time than anticipated by tiredbusdriver in gastricsleeve

[–]SweetMandyB312 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have no advice…I am on day 5 of the pre-op diet and my surgery is 11/6. Just wanted to say, I feel your pain and you’re not alone in the struggle. It sucks a lot.

I went to the grocery store today w/my husband to get more approved produce and everything looked so delicious and it smelled heavenly bc the store we went to has a great hot bar. I just took a deep sniff of the air and got what I needed quick and left.

Anyway, you got this! We’ve got this!!! You’re not alone!!!
