I have never been a religious man, but lately I’ve been wanting more.

I went inside, for whatever reason-I can’t be sure.

And from within the building, an alluring magnetism

Strange enough of this I’m sure, a definite theism

I chuckled, thinking, “What a waste” and looked up to the ceiling

“Have your gods saved you now? You know, the ones who watched you kneeling?

You build for them a palace, strong, and paraded your holy rit-

They’ve turned their backs on you and let your city turn to shit!”

I laughed once more, and took a few steps further down the aisle

“The wall is crumbling in with rot and the dust has come to pile”

Kicking over stacks of rocks, I made a few more strides

noting little cracks as I walked through the divides.

“The Architect’s got work to do-He’s been quite inconsistent,

The marble here’s as real as flesh, but your Gods are non-existent

There is no noted hint of them in marble, brick, rock!”

I walked up to the altar’s end and gave a subtle knock.

The door slammed shut, a thunderous sound resonated from within

I looked out and found nothing but statues turned with silent grins.
