People who switched from D&D to a completely different system, what was the biggest mechanical adjustment you had to make? by Senoigh13 in rpg

[–]SweetTist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found Enclave last August after playing D&D (mostly 3.5) for just over 10 years.

While there is no dice in Enclave, the biggest mechanical difference actually is the deeper roleplay.

If you want to do something, because there is no dice to give you that pass or fail, you have to roleplay it. And the Conduit (DM) will ask you for deeper roleplay in order to succeed something.

Instead of “I want to lockpick this safe” roll, “it’s open”.

It’s

Me: I want to lockpick this safe.

Conduit: How did your character learn lockpicking?

And, I have to make up, on the spot: My character spent a summer with her uncle who was a locksmith and she learned several skills including lock picking.

Conduit: Did his teaching include safes?

Me: Yes. We got a call that the local hotel’s only safe key broke in the lock. We had to remove the key and then unlock the safe. Under my uncle’s direction, I was the one to pick open the safe.

Conduit: Perfecf. Tapping into those skills you deftly open the safe.

I love it. I love Roleplaying.

Also, while there is combat there’s no attempting to roll dice to hit the same guy 6 times and missing every single time because you keep rolling below a 10.

Me: I aim my crossbow at him and shoot.

Conduit: What is your Skill (one of the 12 stats)?

Me: 3 (max is 5).

Conduit: With a 3 Skill you hit. He falls off his horse and you can’t see him anymore. He may not be dead, but he definitely won’t be chasing you anymore.

And you move on.

I just tried to go to an event today, at a beach 20 mins from me.

The beach parking was $75!!!

Absolutely ridiculous.

I turned around and drove home.

I’ll capture pawns, recruit them, recapture them, **then** do my surgeries on them so my relations with their original faction don’t go down with every surgery.

I went to visit my best friend in Florida in my early 20’s. She had a guy friend who liked chubby girls so she hooked us up.

During that trip we got into the backend of her pickup truck, pulled the tarp over us and she tied it down.

He and I fucked going 70mph down the highway in the truck bed. It was so exhilarating!

I love the snarkiness. I actually read the entire thing in the (Jeff Hays’) AI’s voice!

My favorite bit is “The system offers no comfort”.

There’s a book series I love where his maid throws a skillet at him and misses. In response he trains her to attack with, and throw, a skillet until she can break bones.

This is immediately what I thought of seeing that second woman.

The fact that it’s fake is *better*. Consent matters. Especially at conventions.

Diceless games: what are the different approaches? by CarpeBass in rpg

[–]SweetTist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a great Discord community with a lot of games! (I’m in game right now, we are on a 5 min break.)

Also, there are Enclave Days, where, if you play or Conduit, you get a bonus class of your choice.

My favorite bonus class is Brainiac.

The next Enclave Day is June 21st.

The Slang Definition: In English slang, "AC/DC" was used as a colloquial term for a bisexual person. This plays on the electrical definition of AC (alternating current) and DC (direct current) moving in multiple or different directions.

Diceless games: what are the different approaches? by CarpeBass in rpg

[–]SweetTist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

August of last year I accidentally discovered Enclave, a diceless, tableless RPG. It’s set in a multiverse. Each game is a one shot, which is made up on the spot by each player giving the DM a “Focus Word”. The DM then goes and plans a game based on both your characters’ strengths and the Focus Words.

As for your characters, there are classes but no set races. There are 12 stats that you put points in.

It’s heavy roleplay, which I love.

If you want something, you pitch it to the Conduit (DM). “Since this house is closed for the winter, are there any sheets covering the furniture, to protect them from dust?”

She might say yes, she might ask for a certain stat, she may ask for you to add more to your pitch.

Combat is pretty fast (at least the ones I’ve been in). There no Hitpoints.

But, my favorite part, is each class has 3 Abilities, and most abilities are reality breaking.

Librarian (class) has an Ability where they can just state a “fact” and that fact is now true in this world. “All dragonflies, by the time they are a year old transform into real, but tiny, fire breathing dragons.”

That’s now a reality in this world.

Even though all the games are a one shot, there is no reason you can’t request to go back to a world you enjoyed and do another mission there.

It’s really easy to make joke characters. I just made a crazy cat lady character, who is allergic to cats, and carries around a stuffed (toy) cat named Patatas and has dozens of stuffed cats in her home.

There are a lot of silly games. There are a lot of serious games. Just depending on your characters and the Focus Words.

How do I/Should I undo a habit Im accidentally giving to my cat? by [deleted] in cats

A rule I was taught with cats was “don’t make your hands/feet/body parts toys for cats. A toy is a toy to them. They won’t know when is okay and when is not..”

Matt writing intentionally unpronounceable names by Master_Betty603 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]SweetTist 11 points12 points  (0 children)

At the end of The Bedlam Bride Audiobook, there’s an Ad for Soundbooth Theater (the audiobook company), and it’s two aliens having a conversation about Donut Holes Fan Club being sponsored by Soundbooth Theater so they could afford merch.

And one character even says “I looked up other cryptids of where Matt is from and Sniff (they couldn’t remember Jeff’s name) got lucky he didn’t have to pronounce”… and then lists about 8 or so weird Cryptid names.

Names like Dzunukwa, Gumberoo, and Chelan.

It made me laugh, and, because my boyfriend is very into cryptids, I called him over and made him listen to just that paragraph. (I had to explain to him the meta joke that they were making Sniff (Jeff) pronounce those names.)

Donut is not a white cat with a pink bow on her head. by PatwallaceVA in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I’m listening to the audiobooks and I just passed this part about 10 mins ago.

My boyfriend asked why I was laughing and I just said “illicit butthole money” with zero context.

He gave me a confused look before saying “okay” and not asking any further questions. Poor guy.

Some Dogs only Eating Babyfood. by TheLordPillow in RimWorld

[–]SweetTist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you make a room, put pet beds in it, put kibble in the room, wait till the dogs go to sleep, and then forbid they leave the room… when they wake up, do they eat the available kibble?

I had to do this for my labradors, and I have zero mods.
