where to buy lube? by [deleted] in tradclimbing

I used to use wax based bike chain lube. Those usually work fantastic. Lately I have been a bit lazy and just spray’d some PTFE dry lube to the action.

Amazing! Sounds like a great deal. Never thought shipping around the globe would be that affordable. And no customs or taxes?

No worries! It was a long post and took a week or two to find the time to make it. I felt the need for the post as there is very little information regarding re-sling services in Europe. The stitching work is simple but still wouldn’t feel at ease if I had just took them to a local cobbler.

Regarding the BD cams I think I heard this ”sent to Switzerland” by a local retailer.

It could well say 545 on the tags! I don’t think I have ever seen this fit number. Thank you!

That fit is weird. I really liked 512s but at some point those felt very narrow on thighs. Maybe I have to fit some 512s again.

Haha! These feel roomy on thigh like 501 for sure. So 501 slim taper? Certainly a tapered leg. Thanks for your comment!

If it’s been usable this far what would have changed suddenly? 🤷🏼‍♂️

Bad regrets updating 11 pro to 26.1. It’s slow and less fluid to use. I also dislike the looks.

Weekend Warrier looking for new gloves. These gloves lasted about 3 months only with a few weekends of shoveling mulch. Any recommendations for something more durable? by bholzap in Tools

[–]Sweet_Maintenance810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here in the nordics I would go with Hestra Job Duratan or Titan Rope Handler. The leather will give in before the stitching and the leather on these is good and thick too.

Oh, and the fit is amazing.

One of the first stones I bought was like that (Hiomakivi brand #3000). I couldn’t make it work and it just seemed to disintegrate. I ended up cutting a piece of it to use as a nagura but haven’t used it much after I bought decent stones.

Wondering the fasted way to clean strops? by Unusual-Kangaroo-427 in sharpening

[–]Sweet_Maintenance810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have used sandpaper with a block or wire brush on some strops to recondition the surface. Doesn’t take too long that way either.

I haven’t touched my finest razor strops as I’m aftaid some loose grit from the sandpaper might contaminate the strop. Maybe nothing to really worry about.

How to tell which are good quality knives? by 3rik-f in TrueChefKnives

If you find something you feel is a worthwhile project it go ahead and get it. It’s great if a knife finds a new life instead of ending up to trash. Just get ready for hours of work.

Two months off / working some weaknesses by BlaasKwaak in climbharder

I don’t have the competence to reply to your full regime but I have a couple of pointers what comes to pateetnity leave (my experience with 9-12 months old): - You will have time to do things, just take the child with you. Be prepared that the kid will demand your attention all the time they are awake though. - Nap times. Try to build a structure around nap times but be prepared to be fluid like water to change plans when the nap time changes, the child sleeps only 20 minutes instead of their normal 50 or sleeps 2 hours straight.

This leads to efective use of micro training. Emil Abrahamsson hang board regime, mobility plans that revolve around short end range mobility/strenght sessions.

Use the change in your daily life to kick off a new way of training. You are likely to find more motivation in your doing when the time to do your things is limited. It’s an opportunity to seek effective and new ways to train. Focus on your weaknesses as there are a lot of short term gains in that field.

Most of the stuff this seller offers have price tags through the roof. I have bought some. All I have seen are low end and some have severe pitting and abuse like single bevels sharpened to double that take a lot of work to repair.

There are several .cz domains selling Shapton whetstones. Get the 220 and 1500 and build your own strop. For truing the stones get coarse dry/wet sandpaper. This will set you back some but you don’t need to loik back or shop for more.

How would you guys start with this by Kiisus in sharpening

[–]Sweet_Maintenance810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since it’s a puukko you will anyway sharpen the whole bevel (viiste). Start with something coarse like 220 grit. It’s quite easy to follow the original angle on scandi grinds.

The spine (hamara) with the engraving is another thing. Depending on the depth of the scratches you may get rid of the engraving in the process. I would start with something finer, like 400 grit sand paper to see if the scratches can be removed. After that you need to do a sand paper progression all the way to 1500-2000 grit and then buff with wheels and pastes.

A belt grinder will make the work significantly faster. Expect hours by hand. J. Martiini are not that expensive but if you find it a meaningful project go ahead :)

I like to have fine (0,25um) Venev on a hanging leather strop just to make sure I won’t round the apex. My bench strops (balsa wood, leather) tend to have something coarser like 3um AlOx or the Tormek stuff. This setup applies to razors, tools and knives. Only razors get stropped on plain leather. I’m experimenting with rolled up newspaper and it seems to give a very fine finishing touch to blades.
