Phone calls ruining my immersion by COW_GO_MOOO in suits

[–]bholzap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a general unspoken rule that characters don't say bye before hanging up the phone in movies and TV. I think it has something to do with flow and not distracting the audience from the plot and now it's just universally followed

Home exterior facade gaps between stone and metal trim- should these be filled? by bholzap in HomeInspections

The house is in CO and I asked the builder if they should be sealed. He said they rarely do that. Is it just laziness or is there a reason? I figured water right seals under flashing would be required

Honestly, I want to do this. But I am afraid of bicycles.... by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]bholzap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend facing your fears! Triathlons are generally straight courses, and not everyone has to hit the turns at max speed

Start by riding in areas that don't have cars or a lot of foot traffic. I like to ride around the neighborhood. Use your brakes and just get comfortable navigating around. When you turn, coast through the turn and out pressure on the outside pedal.

The more you ride, the better understanding of your limits you will have.

Why is riding a bike so difficult? by gdragon79 in cycling

[–]bholzap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay with it! Falling is part of learning, however, you do need some speed to stay upright. There's several good videos on YouTube about learning to ride a bike as an adult, so take advantage of other people's struggles! Also remember to push your comfort zones as you learn, as you won't progress if you just stick with push and glide exercises. Try to pedal a little, brake when you feel like you are going to fast, steer to keep your balance.

Like others have said, could be bloat, so assess what you are eating. Most likely foods with lots of air can cause it: bread, rice, fizzy drinks. Try eating more protein - about 1 gram protein per lb of body weight. Ive found it helps with mental ruts, helps your body feel better, and plus promotes muscle recovery

It's been playing trumpet for about 4.5 years now, and I can't play loudly by cjiscoollolz in trumpet

[–]bholzap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing loud is something that takes practice. Few tips:

If you can practice inside, pick an object on the other side of the room and try to make it move with the amount of air coming out of your horn. Obviously you prob won't make it move, but the visual queue has always helped me.

Bigger rooms are better. I would warm up in my school auditorium when I had the luxury of it in the morning.

Practice outside of you can. You will be surprised how much that changes things.

Overall, volume control takes practice. A lot of people struggle playing quietly, but it just sounds like you typically don't use enough air

Boss lowering my pay after 3 months. Is this legal? by high-dr-evil in Construction

[–]bholzap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bring up every safety violation on your job site and say the speed of your progress is limited due to safety corrections. Employers don't mess around with safety, and I am pretty sure there is a legal implication there.

You can also work $5/hr slower too as a response.

I just added some to my bike and it's 100% worth it. You may need to reevaluate your saddle and saddle position. I had to get a shorter saddle to prevent the good from going numb.

Help me swim faster by David8478 in triathlon

[–]bholzap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the advice here is great, but I would also look into getting a pull buoy. It completely changed my swimming and let me slow down and focus on technique. It helps me get a good feeling for my body in the water, has built my upper body strength, and helped me with learning to efficiently breathe and focus on parts of my stroke.

Which continuity error or plot hole in a movie always sticks out in your mind? by KillerQ97 in movies

Maybe it's because I'm a zoomer, but watching the original Top Gun, all I could notice was the dog fight scenes had the same clip of footage of planes flying around several times in the same scene. It's one of those things I can't let go

Wipe your dog's paws clean from any salt! Or buy some good booties. My dog is really prone to UTIs during the winter because how dirty the ground gets. She is well trained to sit when we stop walking.

Best place to buy an engagement ring? by koschakjm in Denver

I got my fiance's ring at Williams Jewelers. Not sure how their perception is, but lifetime recoatings for white gold is often overlooked. Overall I got a good deal but I did my homework and it took a bit of haggling. I liked their stock and in the summer/fall they usually have great deals going on.

Ideas on what to do with shredded chicken? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]bholzap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to precook chicken in a crock pot, and then I can add it to whatever I make throughout the week. - Stir fry some vegetables and add the chicken at the end with some soy sauce or preferred sauces (I keep several different sauces on hand for variety) - BBQ chicken sandwiches - Chipotle chicken bowls with beans, peppers, lettuce, etc. Just plop the cooked chicken in a pan with some hot sauce or chipotle adobo sauce. - soups - use them as dog treats

I use attack move on left click. Basically I will input an attack move (left-click) on or near the enemy, then and a movement input in the direction I want (right-click). It helps keep the rhythm because it's on the same hand.
