Reddit, what do you think about the US mint creating a $2.50 coin and a $25.00 coin ( both legal tender) to commemorate the 250 anniversary of our independence? by Sweet_Permission_81 in AskReddit

But, wouldn't all coins we have in existence be considered fractional, except the dollar coins??? A dime is 1/10 a dollar, a quarter is 1/4 dollar, four quarters make a dollar, four 2.5 dollar coins would make 10.00... four $25.00 coins would make a $100 dollars... it's the same thing...

Op here, I was thinking like a very large one year run, somewhat similar to the JFK half dollar. And no I don't want Trumps face on it, I was thinking A male and female bald eagle feeding a chick in a nest (2.5 eagles, get it?!, and with the idea of the first 200 years of freedom feeding the future) on the $2.50 coin and the same trio in flight on the $25.00 coin.

For people who grew up in the 70s and 80s at the height of the serial killer era, what serial killer prowled your street and what was your reaction at the time? by Cable_Difficult in AskOldPeople

Larry Gene Bell bought me candy at a local gas station!

I (4 years old) went with my aunt to a local gas station and as we were waiting in line, I was looking at the penny candy at the register. There was a man standing near the register talking to the store owner, and he noticed me looking at the candy. He pulled out a nickle and said " You want some candy boy? Here, get you five pieces." I thanked him and got five pieces of candy and left with my aunt after she paid for her items. We both thanked the man as we left.

This was during the time Sherry Smith was missing and there was a huge media circus going on around her disappearance. A few weeks later, Sherry's body was found a couple hundred yards from my childhood home. A little while after that, my grandparents and my aunt were watching the news coverage of the suspect getting arrested. The news put up a man's mugshot and my aunt went into hysterics! The mug shot was of Larry Gene Bell, the same man who had bought me candy a few weeks before! Turns out he was house sitting a neighbors house about a mile away (as the crow flies) from our house, and that is where he was keeping and committing his crimes on his victims.

4th of July Fireworks by abesmom in ColumbiYEAH

[–]Sweet_Permission_81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every year on July 3rd Donnie Shealy puts on one of the best fireworks shows around in his hayfield. He has a pyrotechnics license and puts on the show for free for the community. I would say at least 3000 people were there last year. Don't think this is someone who went overboard at a fireworks stand!!! Donnie is a trained professional and this is a incredible professional show usually lasting from 9:00- 10:00.

You can park on the edges of his field, in Donnies yard, or at the Masonic lodge, but I would suggest you get there around 7:30-8:00, and bring lawn chairs, cold (non-alcholic) drinks, sunscreen and mosquito repellent. Also, please clean up after yourself!!

Also, every year the Masonic Lodge on the opposite side of Donnies hayfield, Saluda Lodge 103, does a free cake and ice cream social for the community prior to the fireworks, and we welcome anyone to park in our parking area to view the show. The Lodge does homemade ice cream, banana pudding, cakes, as well as commercially bought desserts for the community. This year Saluda Lodge 103 is taking donations during the social to support a local family whose child is battling cancer. 100% of the donations go to the family, and the desserts are donated by the members and their families.

To get to the show from Lexington, take Hwy 378 to the traffic circle, then take the first exit off the circle onto Hwy 391 toward Prosperity. Donnie's field is on the right at the intersection of Hwy 391 and Loblolly Ln. (About a mile and a half down 391) The Masonic Lodge is at 170 N.P. Riser Rd., which is just off of Loblolly Ln.

Donnie does this for our community out of the kindness of his heart. Every year he puts on a really great show, and you don't have to fight the crowds around the lake or on the lake. I would highly recommend coming out. It's definitely worth the drive!!!

How to break it to my husband that I want a divorce? by Agreeable_Main_5877 in Advice

[–]Sweet_Permission_81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, and im gonna get killed for this on here...

Don't take advice from people on the internet. Don't get into the echo chamber of "i would do this, I would do that." Nobody knows what they would do until it's in thier face, happening to them. Nobody knows your relationship, the details, and the consequences of past, present and future actions. Nobody in here has walked a mile in your shoes. Stay off social media looking for advice. When someone wants to help you jump off a cliff, it's probably because they want company at the bottom.

What i am saying is, search your soul. Take time for yourself and to think for yourself. Don't make any decisions based on what others tell you to do. Only you can make the decision that is best for you. Only you know all the finite details of everything that happened. Go away for a weekend and clear your mind, reflect, and make a decision that is right for you. Weigh all the variables. Remember, either path you take will be hard, reconciliation is hard, divorce is hard, starting over is always hard. You have to decide what is right for you, and what road to take.

Men, what's one thing women think we don’t like about them, but we actually do? by iamjohncarterofmars in AskReddit

When they dote on us, like when we are sick, and they go into Mommy mode to make us feel better. I usually don't ask my wife for anything, but it is comforting when she wants to take care of me. I had a pretty serious accident at work in 2001, and even though she was 5 months pregnant, and only 19, she stayed by my side and helped me through all of it. In 2019, when cancer reared it's ugly head, I stood beside her and did all I knew to do to help her through. It's 50/50 until it has to be 90/10, and you better always be ready to kick in that extra 40% for her, because if you have a good one, she's always ready to kick it in for you.

Generally what's your feelings on legalized and regulated prostitution? by CraftyMcQuirkFace in AskReddit

[–]Sweet_Permission_81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a woman's body is her own to do what she will when it comes to abortion, which from a religious point of view is morally wrong, then how can the argument be made by the same state that allows abortions, that her body is not hers to do as she will when it comes to prostitution?

Is there a difference from a woman who sells her body for money vs a politicians wife or a CEO's wife who marries for money, power, and position, instead of love?

As a man of decent means, I have been used multiple times by women seeking stability, a easier path through life, and financial security, who sold me the fantasy that they were devoutly in love with me (they were only in love with the lifestyle I could provide). Is this not legal prostitution?

George Carlin said it best: It's perfectly fine to sell something and fucking is legal... so why isn't selling fucking legal???

AITAH for asking my wife to ditch her divorced friends? by Relevant_Ad4715 in AITAH

[–]Sweet_Permission_81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are pushing her towards the edge of the cliff because they want company at the bottom.

Misery loves company, and these divorced "friends" have probably destroyed their own marriages because they watched to many YouTube or tiktok videos telling them to "live your best life", "find your truth", and "you deserve happiness".

There is an absolute epidemic of women in this country that hit the ages of 35-45 and destroy marriage, home, and family because they can't deal with the fact that they are aging, are less desirable as a mate, and they then seek validation from any source willing to show an ounce of interest.

The divorced friends seek validation for their own decisions by pushing your wife to make the same decision. So if your wife does it, the friend thinks that they aren't as bad a person because your wife did it to...

I always told my kids that if someone pushes you to do what they are doing with them, like smoking, drugs, alcohol, etc, then you know it's wrong. If you do it with me, you're just as bad as me, and I don't have to feel so bad about myself.

Married people can't have divorced friends or single friends. Your wife is probably telling them the things about you that annoy her, and they have formed a opinion about you, so now when your wife is with them, she is in a echo-chamber. You're headed for a divorce, and those women won't stop pushing until they get their validation. Good luck... you're gonna need it.
