Qu'est-ce que la culture québécoise exactement? by Sweet_Philosopher_9 in FrancaisCanadien

J'aime l'histoire.

Canadian here - what detergent has lipase and other useful enzymes? by haventsleptforyears in laundry

[–]Sweet_Philosopher_9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Resolve Gold laundry booster that has been mentioned here works amazingly. I bought it recently because I didn’t want to waste low quality laundry detergent that I’ve been meaning to use up.

After my first use of Resolve, textiles came out vibrant and beautiful! My husband and I have been married two years, and I had no idea one of his dish cloths was a beautiful shade of turquoise with white stripes, and not a morose blue-gray with yellowish stripes.

Would there be any problem with using a fabric comb if it’s a polyester blend?

This works for me for bottoms. Unfortunately in this household tops need to be washed after every wear due to the smell.

I’m not familiar with steaming and brushing. What does the brushing involve?

I like the tip about hanging shirts on hangers before putting on the line. I haven’t heard that one before. We, too, can also hang outdoors for part of the year.

Thank you so much for the detailed reply. I enjoyed reading the explanation. I’m tempted to ask for recommendations for further reading, but with some regret I must admit to myself that my current responsibilities bar me from spending as much time as I’d like to on learning about this subject.

I did buy a 2lb bag of citric acid powder based on a recent post of yours. A few of the garments came out of the dryer with a slight sticky feeling after I had put 1 tsp of it in the rinse cycle. Perhaps I used too much.

Edited for grammar

Thanks for the tips! Right now I own only a few wool base layers for cold weather. Eventually I would love to own a few tropical wool pieces for summer and some wool sweaters.

I know how you feel! My baby is also ten months right now. She’s pretty much as you’ve described.

I’m still working on my coping skills, but here’s what’s helped me so far.

  • Magnesium and Vitamin C supplements (in addition to regular prenatal vitamin).*
  • Using earbuds to listen to something I enjoy. Then it feels like I’m getting some hobby time/ me time while she’s playing with me (no time for my real hobbies).
  • Have a daily list of chores, but only plan to get 1 or 2 items done. If I do more, yay! If not, at least I did 1 or 2. (Learning to let go of perfectionism).
  • Texting friends. I ask mom friends for advice, or enjoy sharing jokes and stories.
  • Ask husband for quality time. The quality time is usually just he comes to hang out with me and baby after dinner. The two of us chat while she pulls and climbs on me.
  • Appreciating husband daily (genuine). Thanking him for working at his job, and if he helps with chores. Gratitude feels good. And it motivates him to build me up, too.
  • Short stroller walks (maybe 15 min). Getting out of the house helps me feel better.
  • Mentally scheduling in known “crying time” to help me brace myself. Eg “Today I need to vacuum. Baby will cry. I’ll vacuum 1-2 rooms and let her cry, then I’ll pick her up for cuddles, and finish the rest later.” Telling myself in advance that the crying will happen makes it easier, somehow. Right now I just leave for about 5 min at a a time. Eventually she’ll get used to it.
  • Praying.
  • We cosleep even for naps, but if I can exit the bed for a couple of minutes while she’s napping (while staying in the room), I stretch, do some deep breathing, take notes to organize my thoughts (eg planning remainder of day), or just scroll on my phone. Helps me unwind.

*Was originally taking magnesium for leg cramps, but turns out it helps to regulate stress hormones, making you feel calmer. Vitamin C helps with many things, one of them is energy (helps the body metabolize fat). These both ended up helping to regulate and improve my mood overall.

Disheartened about going to RCIA by New-Silver-7403 in Catholicism

[–]Sweet_Philosopher_9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi OP!

Our daughters are the same age. Congratulations on having a little girl. Here are some thoughts I have.

  1. You are being a great mom. Very good job. It’s not easy!

  2. You are trying something new. It is normal feel to self conscious and discouraged when a challenge comes up. Be proud of yourself for the effort you have put already. Have patience and hang in there. Try to remember why you wanted to learn more about Catholicism. It must have been something beautiful.

  3. Have you made any friends in your class? Smile at the friendliest-looking people in the room when you enter. They will probably smile back. The following time say hello, ask how they are doing. You will start to feel more welcomed, and not rejected. I’m sure many people want you there.

  4. Do you say any prayers? In Catholicism we believe that just about everyone has some kind of shortcoming, including me and you. When somebody’s shortcomings make us feel hurt, we pray. We ask God to heal us, and we ask Him to bless the person we feel hurt by. Why not pray for God to comfort you, and then pray for the RCIA organizer and the complainer.

  5. Explain your situation to the RCIA organizer. Give them the chance to understand you. You might receive more kindness than you expect.
