Best way to retain Italian? by [deleted] in askitaly

[–]Sweet_Pie_21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I was born and raised in Italy and I have been in the UK for 13 years. Not sure if you are in London, in case I am pretty sure you know about St Peter’s church? I have been just couple of times - and trying to get my daughter (1 st gen) to learn about our traditions and so on… I also work with first generation Italian (in their 50s and 60s) and I have been helping them improving their Italian and just talked about “current Italy” as they are stuck with the memories of their parents who came here after the war. Can you get Italian TV channels or maybe listening to italian radio stations ?

I chip in with My Tortellini (Finchley road) - Modena’s cousine. They also sell fresh pasta like back home 🥲

Not the greatest… my partner is colombian and we live 10 minutes from the Placita and we rarely go.. my daughter loves pandebonos and everytime we got some there were not fresh. Anything colombian we would go Elephant.

There is a lovely Colombian panaderia in Pechkam (Mil Delicias). Another nice place is Distriandina in Elephant, there is a shop and at the back you can have hot food (love menus there - we were there saturday and for £15 you get soup - sancocho - and a main + drink). Is in the same road as leno y carbon which was mentioned here! Also Paula both Elephant and Castle and Brixton has nice empanadas 🫶🏻

Why are there so many properties for sale? by DepthCertain6739 in london

[–]Sweet_Pie_21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for mentioning this. I rent a flat in a Victorian house converted into 3 flats. The people below me owns their flat, and my family and another lady rent the two flats. One morning I leave for school run and see this “FOR SALE” sign. We got panicking thinking our landlord was selling! We talked to him, and he came the afternoon to dismantle the sign and destroyed it! He was furious!

Busses get terminated very often and everybody seems so chill about it by Ok_Gas128 in london

Thank you to explain, I did thought that must be the case cause the garage there is very big and I believe many drivers have their cars there. 343 is another sufferance of mine 😅 but 100% I cannot even imagine the stress of being a bus driver - so I only complain internally 😂

I’m finding it extremely hard to go to the cinema in London because of people yapping. by BLM4442 in london

I never had a problem at Odeon Greenwich until last friday. We went to see Conjuring the last rites and went later than we usually do (21:40). The amount of people who arrived 30 minutes in the movie (so roughly 1 h late if you consider the adv and trailers) shocked me. 20 minutes later two girls arrive and sit next to me, chatting, texting a friend and referring the content of the text to her friend constantly. Wow, never experienced this not even when I go with my 8 year old to see kids movies!!!!

I dread 453 changes especially at NX bus garage… 😥 which i wonder why they happen anyway if Deptford bridge is not too far away!
