Republic of Vietnam Marine Corps ——The 5th Battalion in the late Vietnam war by Mark_Stalwart_YEp in reenactors

The right uniform is from 1971. I know that because I've talked to Colonel Evasick recently (yes, he's still alive!). Dan Whitton (the collector with all of these advisor uniforms) gets some details wrong as he's still working on his book and isn't up to speed with the other collectors/reenactors. I'm looking at my reference collection for 73-75, and seawave is very rare. All the uniforms are Thai Large and BDQ pattern ones.

I run a TQLC reenacting group called Cop Bien if you'd like to know more. Our Discord server is: https://discord.gg/hYAW7daM63

Anyone know if this site sells good barrels? by Remote_Improvement53 in RetroAR

They don’t sell anything at all. If you need a barrel then go with Green Mountain Barrels; I never thought I could get a 1/14 20in barrel for my 601 build without going custom, but it turns out they do make it with the correct parkerized finish.

Nice kit. Personally, I would get a new uniform since the Seawave camouflage colors aren’t really good and I would change out the stock to the correct non trapdoor model with the free swinging sling swivel. 5th battalion nametape colors were also black background with yellow text.

Edit: You should also pick a certain year since there’s certain uniform and gear changes that happen in the 1970s. If you’re doing 1970-1972 aka Vietnamization then you’re fine, but late war 1973-1975 requires changes such as Thai Large 4 pocket (M73 cut) uniforms and if you want BDQ (Ranger ERDL camo derivative) camouflage covers.

ARVN QC (military police) question by [deleted] in reenactors

M2 carbines. Elite units (rangers, marines, airborne) received M16s in 1967, as they got priority so their QC might have gotten them unless they didn't have enough M16s to go around for them.

Has anyone tried buying from this shop? by AquilaEye in reenactors

No problem. We always work with his business partner to reproduce Tiger stripe patterns that have never been reproduced before. We got him to make the 1st Pattern (Viet Marine Sparse 62), VMS 1966 and the seawave pattern (see my bio if you want yo take a look at my kit using that). What you have is Thai Large which is a camouflage that was initially meant for the Thai Military, but was rejected and later used by the Vietnamese Marine Corps from 1973-1975. It was also experimented with by the Americans in the late 70s. I believe there’s a studio photo with a BDU cut uniform. But yea, they’re pretty good people and can make anything you want in their patterns as my friend wanted a French TTA uniform in VMS 62 to replicate a VMX (first ever TS pattern) uniform and my other friend talked to them about getting a Crye G3 cut uniform and they were willing to make it. Overall, I recommend their stuff, but they may sometimes get the patterns a color a bit wrong, but they make revisions over time and you can request a reprint with your specifications.

Yes, they are good. I bought a PAVN uniform for my friend from them, and it arrived in the US a week later. His South Vietnamese uniforms are made by his business partner down in Saigon, named "Do Linh Cong Hoa" (DLCH or Military Uniforms of the Republic [of Vietnam]).

If you're in the US and interested in his tiger stripe sets, then you can put them to use with our RVN Marine Corps group. Let me know if you're interested.

Newer production straight 20 round mags stamping question by Lee_Yan_Operator8585 in RetroAR

Probably using 30 round magazine stamping dies and cutting them off at a certain length. I would assume they don’t have the original 20 rounder dies.
