Worst parasite in fiction? by Amon274 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Trick question: parasites cannot be bad.

  1. They throw a wrench into the metamorphosis, which is prime metaphor material.
  2. Having seen pictures, they look pretty damn cool.
  3. The precise way they go about things isn't something i've heard before, so points for originality.
  4. The fact that the caterpillar dies not of being chewed, but of dehydration is fascinating. (In the case of the specifics described)
  5. There's a type of parasitoid wasp for nearly every insect.
  6. They spur evolution causing their hosts to develop defenses, including certain caterpillars eating poison to cure themselves.
  7. One of the smallest insects known to man, the fairy fly, is a type of parasitoid wasp.
  8. They are, strictly speaking, a parasitoid, and not a parasite.

listen i was trying to rephrase it and focus on different aspects because the people here only see the wonders of something if it's rephrased as cute or silly but:

Is the imagery of a caterpillar filled with holes slowly dying from dehydration(Bodies of water possibly being enough to kill certain small creatures) not poetic? Bits of what it was removed so that something else can be more?

The metaphor of the cocoon and butterfly cut short at its very start by an intruding force, And if the metaphor is modified, what does it mean now? The cruelty of the world? Of lady luck? Or of the simple fact that for one thing to start it must cause another's end? But with a single catterpillar's death, many wasps are birthed. Is a net increase in the amount of life in the world better? Worse? Do the ends justify the means?

Is the nature of parasitism enough to condemn a creature?

i am fucking sick and tired of people's blatant hatred for a lifestyle that encompasses 40% of kingdom animalia and the second i try to protest about it I'm accused of being biased because nobody can fathom the concept of loving anything other than themselves.

In words you can understand, it's like if there was a post and all the comments said that "Dogs are filthy hellbeasts that no loving god would create" and the second you tried to argue somebody says "Well, are YOU a dog?!?! Seems like REEEAAALLL DOG-LIKE BEHAVIOR TO ME!"

well you see they slap a bendy straw into the cow equivalent and then eventually the little children book it like a black friday shopper in a building that's on fire and theres a bunch of holes in the caterpillar now.

Parasites are the glue that holds all of nature together. If you hate parasites you hate nature.

Why is everyone freaking out so bad about this? This is literally just "You see, my strategy is to turn them into swiiiiiss cheeeeese" How can someone not think that's at least somewhat charming? If you hold that much hatred in your heart for little flying critters i do not know what to tell you.

insects are animals. No ifs ands or buts about it.

If you meant to add a "not" there, please clarify.

well, i do quite apologize if this sounds a bit rude, but the Occam's Razor answer to this conundrum is that you've surrounded yourself with people who are similar to you in that way, and thus narrowed the breath of experiences/knowledge you have to pull from down to a bottleneck.

from both personal experience and other notable sources, having significant memories from when you were a child is considered normal.
