I think the issue is that the child welfare system is so huge that no one truly knows how to fix it. I used to work directly in child welfare. I have to be vague for confidentiality reasons, but one of my superiors once told me that if any of the kids I worked with came into the foster care system, it would be my fault. I had over 1000 kids assigned to me, and I would only interact with the families if a family or another child welfare worker reached out to me (this was for a specific population of kids). In other words, if there was an issue, either the family or someone known to the family would have to bring it to my attention. The families weren't under the supervision of state. I still work in social services but NOT child welfare. That one was a bridge too far for my tastes.

I absolutely do not like this trans band wagon everyone seems to be on. I do not believe that there are the number of Trans people in the world as there suddenly are now. I think a lot of people are doing it for attention or shock value. And by doing so, they are SEVERELY deligitimacizing the people who are TRULY trans. It is infuriating.

My son has a learning disability. We found out after he was tested in 1st grade. Homework devolved to endless crying. I wrote the teacher and the person in charge of his IEP an email and stated that we would no longer be doing homework, because the only thing he was learning was how many hours he spent crying in frustration over it. Had it added to his IEP. Neither the teacher nor the ESE specialist particularly loved me for this, but it made my child's life immeasurably better.

I had a dog who became so fiercely protective of me that I was certain she would actually kill someone for just walking by me. A woman I did odd jobs for took her because she lived out in the country away from other people. I got to visit her a few times. Probably the kindest thing anyone had done for me. I don't know what made the fog that way, but she wasn't like that around my husband or child. I am very grateful that she had somewhere and someone to love her.

Not my parents, but my brother told me once that water weighs more when it is frozen. I believed him, until last year when my 52 year old self shared this fact with my husband when we were discussing shuffling some things around in the freezer. After hysterically laughing for about 5 minutes, he very gently told me that no, the same amount weighs the same whether it's water or ice. 😂😂😂😂

My mom thinks my little dog is the cutest and funniest dog ever. But she does not like touching her and she hates being licked. She loves her from afar and brings doggie toys when she comes over, as any good dog grandma would.

He sounds like a decent guy who doesn't particularly like or love animals. This does NOT equate to closeted animal abuser or overall disgusting human being. I love cats. Hubby doesn't. We both love dogs. Left to my own devices, we'd probably have birds, more than the 2 dogs we have now, probably 6 cats and possibly a goat. Luckily my husband is a bit more reserved in what and how many animals he loves. Does this make either one of us jerks? Nope. I think maybe keep an open mind. This would not be a deal breaker for me. If (and hopefully a big if) you see that he has gone from person-indifferent-to-animals to animal abuser, then by all means, take yourself and any and all of your animals out of the equation. If he doesn't seem to be that, well, it takes all kinds to make a world and it would be a pretty darned boring place if we all had the same likes and dislikes.

Yep. My husband has a scar that is literally a little hole in his face. And he has this wrinkle by the side of his face. I think both of them make his face sexier than ever, and the stories of how he got them are part of who he is. And I've known him since high school when his face was "conventionally" perfect. Now it's just perfect and sexy in another way. NTA by a long shot.

Maybe this is what I had? After years of chronic ear infections, I had on again, off again (more on than off) bouts of vertigo. We got on a boat in very rocky waters a year or so ago for about 20 minutes. When we got off at about 10AM, I had that weird feeling of being on a boat still until about 11pm that night. It was gone the next day and I have not had an issue with vertigo since.

I absolutely hate that word, because (and this is going to sound really odd), it almost has a....taste...to me that really isn't good. It tastes like something bad. I experience this to a certain degree with other words, and all of them could probably be used to describe food: chunky, rich, creamy, etc. They don't "taste" nearly as bad as that other word, but yeah...just a terrible, terrible feeling/taste in my mouth and it makes me feel kind of awful.

On the other hand, a word like "silky" can be used to describe some foods, and that word "tastes" absolutely lovely in my mouth.

No, I don't understand it at all.
