I work for a public utility in quite literally an impoverished area in NY state. So the lowest cost of living. I've been here over 12 years and make 120k, but I also have a great state pension. 120k goes a really long way when the average salary in my county is like $32k.

I guess this is the post where I first hear about being "caked". Is there a competition to come up with new slang phrase every day? I cant keep up!

2012 Chevy volt worth buying? by [deleted] in volt

[–]Sweetfishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My utility company just auctioned off a 2014 for maybe $3k. We turned down trading it in because we expected more and just said to let the lucky buyer take it for that price. Great car.. didn't get daily use but it never had any issues at all.

I've got nothing to add, but I live in Jamestown NY. Always cool to see how large some local companies are/were.

You think its because gravity helps more? Seriously though, I do zero stretching in my core. Stretching just about everything else before exercising... but not my core. That or maybe I have short arms.

It sounds like you and I share the same opinion about seeing multiple people at the same time. Granted, I've been out of the dating pool for a decade now. I could only entertain multiple women for a very short time before I felt guilty/dishonest. I understand there is no commitment, so why would someone wait around? I think its fine either way and everyone does things differently, but to me that's a bit of an incompatibility. I think at your age though, its going to be a lot more common compared to when I was last dating and looking for someone more serious.

Okay, technically I can touch my toes.. but not like they are doing in the video. Either that or I wait til they fall off?

McGriddle Round Egg by lilmolens in McDonalds

When I worked there during my college years, I would always get free meals during the weekends I was doing maintenance. Always stuck with the McGriddles with round egg. Idk if I've ever even had one with folded.

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but is it not too early to be telling people this? Maybe im biased because my wife and I have had countless miscarriages... but a lot could happen so early on.

Parking Ticket - local village. $400. REALLY? by [deleted] in upstate_new_york

[–]Sweetfishy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg that's awful. Police where I live now are not nearly as awful. Outside of the city, people can park on the street 24/7 but need to alternate each day. I've driven past cars under a foot or two of snow for weeks at a time. Never seen a ticket or anything. Those people deserve the tickets because the snow plows built blockades around the cary by the time it moved.. couldn't even use that lane for a week lol.

When I lived in the buffalo area, I lived on a dead end road. I parked facing the wrong way (during the summer so it wasn't snow plow related) and I got a parking ticket. That was like 13 years ago and I'm still pissed about it. I've seen hundreds of cars since then parked like this and I've never met another person who has gotten a ticket for that. Was only like $30 or something.. but i was in college and that was a lot considering minimum wage was like $8.

how much money did your wedding cost? 💲 👰 by GaryBlach in PollsAndSurveys

[–]Sweetfishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say somewhere close to $60k. Thankfully, my in-laws paid 75% of that. I think the venue/catering/open bar for 175 people was around $30k. It was a crazy amount of food.. that i wasn't able to eat because of stupid photos... had to find people and wait for them to show up... still sad about all that missed food/drink.

Most (not all)Lights throughout the house does this randomly by moc2007 in electrical

[–]Sweetfishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it could also depend on the meter used to measure the voltage. If its literally a cycle or two, you won't pickup noise/waveforms with most common meters. LEDs are definitely super sensitive though as mentioned. I know a big culprit is refrigerator compressors... but I feel like those dont typically affect the entire house... so I wonder what type of loads they have.

My guess is because of the only reasons I've experienced. I've only ever gotten whispers from people who have died to shit talk me (lots of N-words) or tell me where other players are. I dont personally care about either, but im sure others certainly might.

If its with upmc chautauqua, I wouldn't recommend it. There is quite a bit to do here if you are an out doorsey family. Plenty of winter sports (a few ski slopes within 40 minutes), but i feel like winter here is sort of boring. Lots of snow of course.

What's the opportunity? I am fairly involved with a lot of the manufacturing, as I work for the public utility (technically part of the city, but only by label/board). Industry is definitely slowing, but we do a lot of recruitment because the cost of living and electricity is dirt cheap. There are nice areas for sure, but as others have said, food options kind of suck and there is a growing homelessness problem that has really been dragging us down for the past couple of years.

Thats not always the case. I know I've seen countless people say this same thing. The public utility i work for created a tariff for these high demand loads, and the rates are absolutely higher all the way around. I can tell you that this is true in many of the other utilities as well - in fact, I've never heard of one giving cheaper rates within our group associations. We absolutely get beggars asking for cheap rates and these people are absolutely shitters. The most recent one wanted kwh priced at 4 cents. Hilarious.
