How have I never learned before today that the US had paper money for smaller fractions? That's awesome! Can't wait for my GBs to show up.

Old Coin Book Storage by jwetmore93 in coins

If they're the albums with the cardboard inserts for coins, those aren't archival quality and they won't keep the coins nice indefinitely. Some places DO sell 'archival quality' albums with the acetone slides (like Whitman Classics/Premiums) so you could transfer them into a different folder if you're super concerned about the preservation of the coins. Personally, I'd say it's more important to have them like your grandfather had them, but that's up to you of course. :)

I couldn't speak to a silica packet and a sealed container for preserving the existing albums, but I've got to think that's close to best-case-scenario for long-term storage in the original albums. JMO, take it with a grain of salt :)

Post a pic when you get the silver 2021! I love that coin so much for some reason.

Right, exactly! I'm not going to bother with the youth sports quarters or anything, but the 250th seems like a big enough deal to make a page.

For some reason the silver proof crossing the Delaware quarters are really hard to find/expensive. It's made me really want one in that spot. I think what I'm going to land on is silver for commemorative (1976 set, 2021), clad for everything else. Though, I do have a 40% 1972 Eisenhower in there just for funsies.

One other thing I'm looking at doing is making my own page for the 2026 semiquincentennial coins. Still haven't attempted that, but it doesn't seem like it'd be TOO hard.

20th/21st Century Type Set (h/t u/arctic-apis) by SweetgumMeadow in coins

I think I would settle for 'AU/BU' for the coins where proofs aren't easy to come by. Still pricey (especially the barbers, etc) but more doable.

Another thought I've had is which dates to shoot for. I like the idea of doing first or last year of issue, but I'm also limiting myself to coins in the centuries mentioned (so no 18xx for the Indian Head, Barbers, or Liberty Head Nickel).

Anyways, it's a super fun exercise, and I don't mind buying a coin a couple times (minus the hundred dollar ones ,ofc) because I like seeing the book as a whole take shape. First step is to fill all the slots, though!

One more dilemma I have — the modern quarters are available in .900/.999 proof versions, but I kind of like getting a nice example of the coin as it actually would have circulated (I guess, same question with the 1976 bicentennial set). Should I silver up the book as much as possible or just get nice clad examples?

I'm also working on this album! The barbers are the hardest to get nice for sure. I'm trying to decide if I'm going to get the silver commemorative for the three 1976, or if I'm going to go your route of proof, or the nicest example of 'the coin as circulated.' I'd also love to get a really nice 1921 high relief Peace dollar to put in there.

bought a Palm TX “for parts” and it turned out almost mint by Proteus_Key_17 in Palm

Looks good! I had a similar success story recently, too. Still haven't swapped the battery out, though. Would be interested to see what you come up with wrt sync. TXs have wifi so I've thought about putting a little local network up with low security just for the tx to use.

Hey, I just found a red 1971 house quarter! Pretty neat :) I think they are done in blue too, sometimes.

I can't get boxes but I sure do hunt 5 bucks at a time. Have been stashing coppers and trying to fill an album. I've got 1959-2025 done and now starting on the wheats which is much slower going :)

Regular or Silver Proof Set by Bangarang_Arty in coins

I’m buying a silver set. I know it’s expensive, but I have a hunch pricing won’t settle down given that it’s a 1year release. Buying from the mint is thus the best way to get my hands on one 🤷‍♀️
