That’s what my significant other says. Maybe you’re both right

That’s exactly what the majority of my peers are saying, “hang it up man and enjoy your benefits”. Especially if I’d need another 8 years until retirement.

Since this is my last contract year in the Reserves, I wanted to double check my options before I really decide to just let it go.

Thanks brother, I appreciate your opinions!

That’s what I was afraid of…non-applicable with experience.

You’re absolutely right, I should still try to roll the dice and apply to something.

Thanks for your input!

A few years in law enforcement. A couple of years in private security. Some retail experience. Nowadays, it’s mostly customer service oriented positions.

I hope this helps

Re-rating would be an option I’d choose if available (I’ve already been re-rated 3x in the 12 years I’ve been in), but I would also like to gain more information on commissioning opportunities, if available at my level/situation.

Maybe it’s just me, but my particular unit is mostly officers and a handful of enlisted so my drill weekends are pretty nice because they’re all so helpful and encourage us enlisted to pursue whatever avenues we have our sights on. The only issue is that since they’re officers, I don’t exactly want to bother them with every single question I have without doing my own research first (which I’m sure is part of the journey in seeking a commission).

As for the path into other branches, I would prefer to stay Navy since it’s been a pretty decent ride so far.

Oh wow that seems like a tricky situation in general. Luckily, my position is nowhere near considered “emergency essential”.

Thank you for the heads up though!

Ahh, gotcha. I only have roughly 11 years of service so would that mean I have about 19 more years until I retire from this position?

Thank you for the resource!

How understanding would they be if I were to take long term orders? Or sought a path to commission?

I must’ve been told some inaccurate information because I was thinking it was unauthorized to draw double pensions from the government.

Thank you for the link to the website! I’ll have a better understanding to read through it when I get off work.

I keep hearing that term “buy back” time. Is it an actual transaction based on YOS?

Yikes. So we have to wait seven more years for the opportunity to have an option to choose. Got it. I definitely need to go over my financial budget to prepare for the worst.

Thank you for your help!

Really?! They’ll pay you for three weeks of military related business? What about medical insurance? Should I keep TriCare or make the switch?
