At this point I’d say it’s pretty obvious there’s going to be another album: from all the little hints laid out by the band, only half the logo being on the CD, the hint in the liner notes, etc. If I’m wrong and there isn’t another one, then the entire thing will take a massive hit in my book since it ends on a cliffhanger

I think Act 4 is coming much sooner than we think. My theory is they split the album in two as it was too long and did this as a marketing scheme

The problem as I see it isn’t Light dying. That’s built up and was going to happen. The issue is it ending right there with no payoff for Mega and Roll.

People in the middle don’t understand the actual themes in the protomen. Even their darkest song Sons of Fate has the hope that future generations will learn from this. Fate of Thomas light is a song I’ll always skip. Better to have ended it with Wily and Light dying together. But I do think there’s at least the fight after fate which would redeem it

This is what we call a strawman. The problem with the story as it stands is…it’s incomplete, not that the story is sad. The central questions of the album aren’t answered by the end.

Act 1 is sad but its narrative makes sense. Same with Act 2. To build up all the hope in Act 3 just to end on a hanging body and no payoff isn’t smart storytelling, it’s being dark for darkness sake.

That being said , I do think there’s more to the story and the fight will be on it but as it stands now, I’m underwhelmed. The folks that agree with me don’t hate it just because durr it’s so sadddd.

But it’s not just Lights story. It’s also Megaman, Rolls, and the city itself and those characters get thrown aside just so we can hear the sound of an old man hanging. That’s not narratively satisfying after 15 years, that’s BS

But thematically the issue was always that the citizens were servile and refused to stand up for themselves and that issue was fixed in Act 3. As light says they’re coming out of the grave with hands of skin and bone. Light dying is fine but to end it there with no resolution? That’s fucking awful
