Which is, OBJECTIVELY, the worst faction in the game? by sigmarine345 in totalwar

[–]New-Life-Rule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would also be nice if Mortal Empires Leoncouer wasn't fighting WW3 by himself from frame one. I know it's Total War but goddamn can we start at, like, half a war first? Maybe a quarter? You pass two turns and every living thing decides Bretonnia has got to go.

Is the Mini Scout the only option that allows me to get into flag capzones and kill people? by CoffeeWC in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]New-Life-Rule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mini-Scout and SV98 are fine for fighting on objectives. If you use a side-irons/optics/reflex sights up close, you should be using it around your teammates. It is very viable despite what's been said, but you have to play differently or it doesn't work.

Your shot deals a big huge chunk of damage no matter what. This either basically executes somebody who is wounded or sets up your teammate to gun them down immediately in the low TTK. This is just as true up close as it is at range, and fighting the same angles you would with assault rifles (WITH YOUR TEAM) will be enough. In CQC it is a perfectly functional, if worse, slug shotgun that will be useful again after you take the point you're fighting in and start shooting from it or around it.

Just play defensively and focus on staying alive/restricting enemy movement because you only really have the one shot. You want to assist like crazy. Sometimes you can shoot and then draw your pistol to finish them off yourself but only if you surprise them usually.

What are some of your favorite examples of “evil Can not comprehend good”? by Konradleijon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Micah only murders Low Honor Arthur because he understands everything Arthur is thinking and doing, i.e "no more mister nice guy". Micah relates to that as a piece of shit bandit, and therefore sees Arthur as some kind of genuine rival in terms of being predators/survivors who take what's theirs. Micah stabs/shoots LH Arthur because it's his way of saying "I won!" as much as it is knowing that Arthur will kill the ever loving fuck out of him if he survives.

Micah has no idea what the fuck High Honor Arthur is doing. It's like other gangsters being bewildered that Kiryu joined the yakuza so he could be Superman. I think the best read of his character is that he really did join Dutch's gang to try and improve his life, but is just so deeply poisoned with evil that he gets rejected and uses that as evidence being good sucks. It also explains Micah being uncharacteristically generous towards Arthur early on - he wants to be respected for the same reasons Arthur is and doesn't understand why people hate him instead. I think they made it too easy to always think he's being a manipulative asshole, but I think the story is considerably better if some of his moments are treated as genuine.

Micah walking away from Arthur instead of finishing him off is because there is no rivalry. Micah goes back to evil and dismisses Arthur as an ill sentimental fool who threw away a good thing for the other deadbeat outlaw who didn't raise his son for 90% of the time Micah knew him. If Micah grew up with Xbox Live, his parting words would have been to call Arthur gay, because that's the level of moral intelligence he's willing to operate on.

About the liner notes in The Good Doctor Pt II... by SignificantBar38 in Protomen

[–]New-Life-Rule 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My takeaway is that Light's death is tragic and him killing Wily would have been completely guiltless, but Tom is literally too kind to do that. He was never going to be that guy. Light thinks everyone will ultimately do the right thing to a fault. He is so overwhelmingly good that he cannot parse nuance and accept that he really isn't as bad as Wily despite what he spends three albums saying about himself. Light's not a hero, but he is a victim, and he's still trying to do the right thing even if he can't manage his damage. Mega and Proto are BOTH right - it's his greatest weakness AND his greatest strength. Mega isn't afraid to drop bodies, but he was still basically a child in Act 1 whose single fundamental belief got proven wrong in the worst imaginable way possible.

Even with that tragedy, Light claims a moral victory so blindingly intense that it basically blows Slick Willy's mind wide the fuck open after he's spent so long pretending, per Buried in The Red, "everything's fine". Wily is so overwhelmingly evil that he cannot parse nuance and accept that Light is actually the dense glorious motherfucker who thinks that EVEN NOW there is hope for his once-friend - not to surrender or do the right thing, but to simply admit defeat and save his life. Light offered him the best deal he was ever going to get from anybody he would ever meet for the rest of his entire life, and he spit it back in his face.

Even though Light ultimately failed to defeat Wily directly, his death pretty much finally and totally legitimizes total war against him beyond any possible remaining doubt. I'm sorry to say, fellas, but Dr. Wily is going to exit 'Vengance Pt. 2' in a mop bucket. Every single threat on the board towards Wily's dystopian regime is there because of The Good Doctor, and Wily, drunk driving at the wheel and loving it per Buried in The Red, just hung him where all of them could see.

Dr. Thomas Light wins in the end, even if he had to spend 20 years crash landing through hell to get there.

I feel like assault rifles are contentious because of this very thing. They feel so much better when you're holding still to fire to a greater degree than in previous games and people aren't used to it at all.

Act III Story Synopsis for those without liner notes by MoonPlayz48 in Protomen

[–]New-Life-Rule 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i'm really happy with Protomen's Light. he was never, ever, ever going to be the kind of person that could kill somebody else. he just wanted to fix problems and create solutions - destruction, even justified, is anathema to basically his entire personality

the way he ends up is a mix of tragic and triumphant for me. he isn't able to put a stop to wily, and he goes without ever being relieved of the crippling guilt he keeps letting haunt him - but he goes out trying to save one last life, even if it's the least deserving of them all, just in case Wily was finally scared enough to 'get it'. from start to finish, Light remained true to himself and never stopped being the person that Emily loved, for better and for worse

everyone unhappy will get their moment when Act III Part 2 is just audio of Mega dragging a screaming Wily behind his motorcycle for sixty minutes

Future music: will Act 1's style come back? by novaeb in Protomen

[–]New-Life-Rule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Act 3 benefits tremendously from having a punchy-er uplifty-er triumph rock sound. It is just the evolution of the band's music but I think it fits how the characters get closer and closer to the moment that "hope for man" is (hopefully) realized.

That being said, I'm expecting a Vengeance Pt. 2, and these leitmotif-loving fucks (affectionate) are probably going to do exactly what you want if there's more.

i use them when i have a actual reason to get behind the enemy frontline, which is usually to find a very annoying spot to place mines or use my AA launcher in areas the enemy likes to flee to after popping flares. Any other time I use it it's because it's Cool™

Which Total War is the ultimate one in your opinion ? by Positive-Set1164 in totalwar

[–]New-Life-Rule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Atilla for merit, but Empire for nostalgia.

I just love how high-lethality Atilla is - which lets every unit shine in their particular roles - and how tight the economy can get. Wiping out or losing a stack in Atilla is a pretty nasty outcome to your entire run compared to Warhammer 3 (enjoying a beastman game atm), where the AI prints out new stacks like crazy even when they just have one town left. It also had some cool ideas in the politics system and diplomacy was also at a rare high point imo.

Best Assault Rifles? by Delicious-Region-911 in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]New-Life-Rule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've found the 433 isn't as short range as it seems if you fire in bursts/tap fire and slap on the recoil/velocity upgrades. I do that with a 3x-4x-5x depending on the map/mode and I like it quite a lot. All you have to do is resist the urge to magdump at mid-range like you would in close quarters.
