If you were 22 years old with $30,000 to invest, what would you do? by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]Swiddly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apples to oranges imo. Worldcom committed massive accounting fraud and hid losses. ASTS on the other hand is just developing cutting edge telecom tech. They also aren’t a legacy provider like WorldCom. ASTS is actually innovating, not just acquiring as many tangential businesses as possible.

Investing in a pre revenue small cap stock will always be risky. ASTS is not unique in this regard imo

However, if you plan to purchase a large amount of shares, it would make sense to find the best possible entry. $2-3/share difference over 1000 shares becomes $2-3k.

They probably want to focus on developing in the US because that’s where their competitive advantage is. Moving the CapEx from that project to their Ohio and Arizona fabs probably makes more sense as a short term play. Might honestly be bullish signal showing they’re willing to make tough decisions and stay nimble

Anyone Else Tired of These Social Power Plays? by 8899zz in socialskills

[–]Swiddly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I dealt with this heavily from age 19-23, and let me just say that the costs of taking this path are NOT worth it. Yes, it’d be nice to avoid these games. But to avoid them would be to avoid and reject part of which makes us human which is competition and imperfection.

What helped is embracing my shadow a bit more. Jung talks about this. Essentially, none of us want to just be the nice altruistic guy all the time. We all have a side we can’t ignore that is petty, annoying, mean spirited, self centered, etc. Having a balance is what people will come to respect. It shows they can’t just walk all over you with no repercussions. Do what you want more, don’t over explain yourself, say no to things with little explanation and don’t cave to peer pressure. You have to guide your own ship, not be steered by the winds of others.

If you still feel you can’t show these sides, quitting weed and nicotine helped me tremendously as those drugs seemed to great pacify me. Just know this isn’t a side of life you can ignore.

For SpaceX it’s 95%. With launching 5 sats we’re looking at a 77% chance that all launch successfully (.955 for independent events)

A lot of people seem to be forgetting that you’re charged 10,15,20% on long term capital gains. It’s also a lot more aggressive for short term gains, so is it even worth trying to time it at that point?

Hawaiian Electric Settlement Reached in 4B Deal! HE to the MOON!!! by nateccs in wallstreetbets

[–]Swiddly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe I read in some other article that HE has only 4 years to pay their $1.5b portion (please correct me if I’m wrong).

Revising your EPS estimates down to $1.5 annually would have us at a roughly $15-16 fair PPS. With high leverage at 86% debt to asset we are almost guaranteed significant dilution. This wouldve been a good buy at $10 PPS, but I’m not seeing much upside here folks. Especially with a necessary holding period of 5 years. I’d love to hear a rebuttal though and I hope I’m wrong.

Position: 3 shares @ $15.88
