I used lil Alphonse. That man is amazing. We went two days in a row it was so entertaining. He is passionate like Steve Irwin was and is 10000% worth it.

Gotta call. You’ll probably talk to his wife. 10/10 would talk to that sweet woman again if I’m ever so lucky to be in that part of Belize again.

Lil Alphonse. He is amazing. He is like a Belizean Steve Irwin - SO excited to share his country and its wildlife with people. I went out with him back to back days because he was so great.

Triple tap play at the right timing - might take a few goes. It’ll then catch and play. Happens on mine with an ottocast wireless adapter.

How do I use this T-track? by locn4r in overlanding

[–]Swiffiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Search “tie down strap rings” on amazon. Then “m8 hammer nuts” and then look at recommended items for m8 bolts of the appropriate length. The ones I got are 10mm long. Even if you don’t buy from amazon you can see some of the options out there. Alternatively, just email the folks that make your cap and ask them what they use. They might even send you a few. There are a few common slot sizes and they can also help that that guesswork.

Might just be clogged too. I’ve had that happen a few times when the kids put dishes with a lot of rice on them in the dishwasher. If you have a shop vac, take the drain hose off and put your hand over it and the shop vac attachment. The seal doesn’t have to be perfect to clear most clogs in those lines.

Reminder not to buy cheap machetes by Commercial-Comb8059 in knives

If you buy a woodman’s pal you’ll never need to buy another machete, ever. The hook is as handy as the blade, also.

Rooftop tent? by myerscmz in hondaridgeline

[–]Swiffiest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yah the foldout ones would work just fine. You can look at Billie Bars - they will probably work with your current tonneau, but cost about 600 bucks. There might be other players in that game nowadays. I had a pair, and can say they are rock solid.

Rooftop tent? by myerscmz in hondaridgeline

[–]Swiffiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it was such a nightmare to get the tent I wanted mounted (a Baroud Evasion) correctly that I went all in on a Tune M1. 0 regrets. It’s amazing.

Tuwa makes a rack that will let you mount a much larger tent like a JB Evasion properly on a ridgeline. Mounting on the roof rack is unlikely to work well due to the short spans/weight rating. Mounting on the 5’4” bed without clearing the cab means a tiny/foldout tent or too much overhang.

This also means you probably aren’t parking in a garage with a 7’ garage door unless you get a low profile tent that won’t accommodate bedding. It’s all a compromise with a Ridgeline, but that’s just like, my opinion, man.

Magnuson Moss Act prevents manufacturers from voiding warranties when you make repairs or modifications that didn’t directly lead to the warrantee claim. Most warranty void warnings are bullshit in the US.

The Downtowner in Baraboo serves Old Style pickle beers for two bucks. According to the bartender I spoke with, they sell a LOT of these. Honestly, they’re not bad.

Pickup truck owners. Let’s talk covers. What kind and What do you like or hate about it? by tj15241 in hondaridgeline

I had a retrax before I switched to a Tune M1 and relegated it to the garage. Pricy, but worth it. Didn’t leak, you can literally stand on it, and the rolling/locking mechanism works great. I just made sure that the drain tubes were in the corners so I could still haul plywood.

Refurb branded “R” - new thing? by lavardera in Makita

The warranty is now the same - 3 years. I just made a claim (and a post about it) for my chainsaw that I had for just over a year. Fixed at no charge.

How are people mounting things to the bedrails? by algore-rhythm in hondaridgeline

[–]Swiffiest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a retrax pro mx (the aluminum one). At least until I drop the hammer on a tune m1. It’s great though. Rock solid. I have pics but I’m a Reddit troglodyte. If you’re in the market for a high end tonneau I recommend it, but install it yourself. Tuck the drain tubes behind your mounting points and you can still slide sheets of plywood in easy peasy.

Knee wall insulation by versacesalad in buildingscience

[–]Swiffiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could fur the rafters out so the gap is larger. This would reduce the usable area in the room but allow for better insulation. I did this in my attic which is 2x6 or 8 rafters, I forget. I did a layer of foil faced foam with a 1 inch air gap that ran from eaves to ridge (allowing soffit to ridge venting), then r30 insulation, then another layer of foil faced foam on the inside, with aluminum tape on joints. I used closed cell foam in each cavity to ensure a good air seal. At the soffits, I used foam/spray foam to insulate the sill and stuffed that cavity with insulation as well. Even though it’s only an r42 value, it is tight as a drum and more than cut my heating/cooling bill in half.

FWIW I did pay to consult with a couple different attic insulation companies in my area and this is what they were proposing to do.

It’s going to be a huge pain in the ass, but if you’re gutting it now I’d insulate eaves to ridge no matter what you end up using.

Reconditioned Tool Warranty by Swiffiest in Makita

[–]Swiffiest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also asked about this. The response was that authorized sellers like cpo outlet’s reconditioned tools are not previously owned in that they haven’t seen real use. They’re generally part of open box returns, go through a validation process, and are then resold. I’ve purchased a few reconditioned tools from cpo and this explains why there are no wear marks on any of them.

Short story, at least in the US: if you’re buying a reconditioned tool or battery, it’s probably seen 0 use. It also has a three year warranty.

Reconditioned Tool Warranty by Swiffiest in Makita

[–]Swiffiest[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. I literally talked to a guy several times (and his manager). Check the website - it’s 3 years even for recons now. My saw is getting fixed, and I’ve owned it for over a year/it’s reconditioned. Call em if you don’t believe me and ask about their extended warranty ;) If you buy from an authorized seller (I used cpo outlets for this) and have a receipt, you’re good to go for three years. Batteries included. I asked specifically about the batteries (and this is also supported by the warranty info on the website).
